Junior: Madison High School (MHS) is located in the in the medium sized town of Madison, SD. Like most medium sized towns, there is only one high school. Personally, I liked this about MHS. It meant that each class wasn't too small, but that it wasn't too big either. There are just enough people so that everyone knows each other and are there for you when you need help. The staff that works here makes this school great. We have many different teachers who all teach something a little different. Based on what classes you sign up for and take, you are able to create a bond with the teachers whose classes you have taken. These teachers will always be there to help if you have a question or problem; even if it doesn't have to deal with their class or school. I'm glad to have gone to MHS and will always be a proud bulldog!

Parent: The kids are great to each other. we moved to this school when my oldest son was in the 6th grade. He went from struggling in school to getting great grades and was involved in a lot of activities. The bummer part about a small school is the kids don't have all of the options that a larger school would have. they can only take Spanish for a foreign language. All around I wouldnt have my kids go to any other school, Chester is great!

Senior: The school was amazing. The gym and sports teachers were friendly and supportive, and the STEM teachers tried to help us learn. The guidance counselor was also helpful.
The problem I have with it is that the students are rarely disciplined for extreme action. Bullying and heckling are common.
Other than that, I recommend the school.

Senior: Rutland High School is a very small, rural school with less than 200 kids K-12. Due to the size and location Rutland is limited in the extra programs that it can offer but never the less it is generally a very welcoming school where everyone is treated well. Teachers and students to have a better one on one connection which can be very benificial in the class room. Friendships cross greatly from grade to grade and there is little discrimination. With that being said we are a very white dominated school, simply because of our location. Our administration and teachers do everything in their power to get multiple different programs for kids to be involved and and to prepare students for ‘the real world’, still funds are limited and Rutland students do not have all of the same opportunities that students in larger schools do.
