Senior: The academics are phenomenal all around. A lot of access to technology and equipment relative to most schools. The community is not very diverse though, and it shows. A lot of people in this school seem the same. White, rich, and athletic. Athletic and art funding is not balanced. The school is making improvements on social issues. Senior: Lakeridge High School is an open and inclusive environment, to a point. The student body of the school is composed of many individuals from affluent families. Although the school has clubs and societies for minority students to find people they can resonate with such as the Asian American Pacific Islander Club, Gay Straight Alliance, and Black Student Union, many students still feel that it is hard for them to resonate with people outside of those clubs. However, Lakeridge still has a predominantly positive student culture. Many students care about doing well. We have a culture of over achievement, and many AP classes for those that wish to take it. Our music and arts department is stellar. Our plays are near professional in quality. However, as with many schools, football seems to a lot of attention from the school district, which is a little ironic, because Lakeridge has a reputation for being an artsy high school.... Alum: Very diverse school with generally great academic opportunities and enthusiastic teachers that work very hard to give students a good experience. Lots of AP courses are offered, but it's unfortunately pretty lacking in regard to Computer Science education, at least when I graduated in 2020. As a current Software Engineering/ CS major, I would have definitely liked to have more applicable experience than outdated HTML web design. Some teachers are absolute gems and do a great job of keeping you engaged or otherwise leave a memorable impression, but like all schools experiences can vary between teachers. Junior: The best part about Lincoln High School is definitely the community. The vast majority students and staff have a desire to make real positive change everywhere, which is inspiring and uplifting for everyone. The teachers are very involved and connected with the school culture and the students. Most of them are kind, understanding, and have a strong commitment to giving students a good education. Lincoln High School is an IB school, and while there are cool and beneficial aspects the global-minded nature of the program, it leads to a very competitive environment. Students try to take the most rigorous IB course load and everyone is constantly trying to start clubs and lead this and lead that. Senior: This is my fourth year at Mountainside High School and I have loved every school year at this school. Every single student has amazing teachers that actually teach you subjects that they are interested in. I would say that the school is pretty diverse, everyone including the students do a good job of making sure that everyone is included in school activities and school learning. Although it is a new built school, I don't feel that there are any health concerns that would come to the students and any staff member. Regarding the curriculum, there are a variety of easy to hard to rigorous classes students could take depending on their level of academics. Senior: I honestly think it’s one of the better schools in the district. I feel like academics are more important at my school than the athletics which is sort of how I feel school should be. I like how my school has a lot of really interesting electives that I haven’t seen being done at any other school. It has helped me discover more hobbies and interests that I never would have experienced anywhere else. I also think my school does a good job on equity. We have multiple equity clubs and groups at school that do a great job applying it everywhere else in school. If I could change one thing about it however, I would definitely want the school to do a better job at being more green and environmentally friendly. The school stopped composting, and I don’t really see much being done by the school to clean up the surrounding area. One other thing I wish my school did was use our photography dark room. Alum: Tualatin High School is a great high school I am thankful to have attended for four years. This school has a great amount of school spirit, we love sports and take them very seriously. I was constantly surrounded by very motivated individuals who were excited to attend a university in order to gain knowledge, and receive the degree we deserve. As difficult as high school can be in general, all the difference personalities and individuals I met and was stuck with for four years have helped shape me into the independent, strong person I am today. Freshman: The thing I like about Sunset is the fact that there are multiple electives to choose from. Like one year you could take computer game design and the next you can take intro to psych! You can also take follow-up courses to beginner courses, such as electrical engineering one your freshman year, and then electrical engineering two your sophomore year. The Literature curriculum for freshman through senior year could be improved, however, by having a larger focus on contemporary writing rather than older texts. Alum: Overall, this is a great school for academics. You have to be willing to give up a lot of extracurricular-type activities if you want to go here. Small class sizes make it easy to form connections with teachers. They also mean you know everyone in your grade - both a good and bad thing. You'll spend half of your school career at Chemeketa, which is an average college. The campus isn't anything to write home about, and I've had some classes that were complete jokes, but at the end of the day it was a good education. Teachers can be a little overbearing about the AVID-type stuff. I suppose the kids are so well-behaved they need something to get onto them about. Not many students get into prestigious universities, so don't go here if you want it to get you into an Ivy or something. Good for state and local university prep. Junior: I really loved my experience with BEC! I've been with Baker Web Academy since 8th grade and switched to BEC as a sophomore for the winter term at my community college. BEC, along with just being an excellent high school, is good at communicating and helping students. I often email my advisor about questions and have good teacher-student relationships with my present and prior teachers! I would definitely recommend Baker to other students, and I have on many occasions! Senior: My experiences in Tigard High School have been lovely. I love the size of the classrooms and how lovely all the teachers are. The teachers show how much they care about you and your grades. You can communicate very well with the teachers, this includes them having office hours with you before school or after school.
