Senior: I have attended Crossroads since Kindergarten and have a lot of experience. Crossroads is a small school in Big Rapids, Michigan. A good thing about the small size of this school is that you have a lot of one on one time with teachers for questions you may have. Also, this school offers a lot of college classes and the curriculum is good for college readiness. Due to the size and the location of the school the diversity is very low. Most of the teachers are very nice and will actually reach out to you if they think you are struggling. Crossroads does not offer a lot of sports and we do not have a lot of funding in order to maintain the sports we do have. One of the best things about Crossroads is its academics. Senior: Throughout my high school years I have been apart of numerous programs and after school activities. For all four years at Heritage I have been apart of the varsity golf and softball team. Team captain for two years on each team. My freshman and sophomore year I was apart of student assembly where we planned school events, helped out with after school activities, etc. In my junior and senior year I have join the Work Based Learning Program, this is where I work at a business of my choice for high school credits. I chose a local restaurant where I was promoted to a management position in the summer of 2023. I am also apart of the Dual Enrollment program at Heritage. This program I go to Delta College to earn college and high school credits. This has benefited me in a significant way, jump starting me into my college journey and helping me decide what path I want to take in my collegiate career. Senior: My overall experience with Holt Senior High School has been very different from my previous years with Holt Public Schools, in a good way. I haven’t experienced nearly as much chaos or immaturity at this campus, as all (if not, most) students here (including myself) are seniors. The best part about my experience has been how much free time I have been able to acquire. I have taken my senior year to really focus on my studies and develop good habits that I can use for my freshman year at college. The worst part of my experience would have to be the drama, but that is not necessarily the school’s fault, it’s merely the immaturity levels for some of the students. I would like to see this campus be more of a learning environment (drama-free), but I think that’s more of a world-wide problem. So basically, I would like to see the world change, not this school in particular. My time here has been very productive and I hope that’s what the next generation experiences at this school.... Senior: Being apart of a virtual program can bring many problems to light. The social interaction and involvement in school community can be a hard thing to achieve. Oxford Virtual Academy offers so many events that bring students together, build connections with students and staff, and make the learning lab an exciting place to go to. They offer nothing but unconditional support and I am confident that they are the best homeschool program in the state of Michigan! One hard part of this program is building the face to face relationships with my teachers when I can’t see them. Senior: It's a great school with a lot of great people involved in it. The teachers, parents, staff, and students are usually well-meaning and care about the people around them. Not only this, but this school has a pretty decent education. Personally, I take easy classes, but there are a lot of AP classes offered. And if you wanted to get an even further education, you can go to KCTC, Dual Enrollment, or online classes. As far as changes go, there are some things can could be beneficial to the students if they were implemented. I think if classes were more engaging, students would be more likely to go to school instead of skipping. Some classes, I have a lot of fun in, such as environmental science, but there are other more boring classes that I could easily do at home. Some of the downsides to this school is that it doesn't have as many opportunities as other schools. Senior: My experience with Romeo High School has been absolutely amazing. Freshman year, Romeo organized events to connect students and strengthen the community. Romeo provides numerous opportunities that have allowed me to have the best experience ever. They offer a wide variety of courses, and I have taken many cool classes, learning a multitude of things. The teachers I have had over the past four years are a highlight at Romeo. Senior: Henry Ford Early College-Advanced Manufacturing is an opportunity to help students reach their goals. It allows students to take learning to the next level, helping students develop new skills that could be used as a real life application. The best experiences that I went through was being able to develop those new skills. The teachers not only focused on the work itself, but wanted to do their best to prepare us for the worst. I loved the idea of being challenged with complex classes, as it gives me the motivation to focus more in depth of the subject to succeed, and not only for the grade itself. There’s not much of anything that I dislike, but possibly the worst experience that I went through was having overconfidence during a time. The teachers at the school can be tricky when writing their tests. You never know the level of difficult, but to just prepare. Junior: I went to preschool in Zeeland, because that's what was closest. But my parents had decided to move to the Hamilton community school district. So that's where I grew up. It's a relatively small school, we only have about 800 students in our high school, and to be completely honest the community is kind of close-minded, and their views on people that are different than them are slightly problematic. I would love to see more people here open up to change and be more accepting of different lifestyles and beliefs. One group of people at hamilton high school that I think does a great job of being accepting is the teachers. Coming into school each morning I feel as though they truly care about each and every one of us and want the best for us. Alum: A lot of the teachers are super friendly and actively want you to succeed with your future. It was an extremely welcoming environment and I made a lot of friends there as well. Being involved in the music department was extremely fun, as there were so many options on what to join. A lot of the issues with Lakeview was the administration. There were a lot of things that the students were very keen on implementing and doing for our senior years, and any time we banded together and requested something fun, there was no signs of anything happening for us. For instance, we wanted to paint parking spots as a fun thing to do our senior year. We petitioned and pleaded with the administration for a long time but nothing was done and there was no sign of any intention to make it work. However, a year later and after we've graduated and the current seniors are able to do the one thing we wanted to do. Alum: Holland High School, although a bit small was still diverse and accepting of all individuals and there were a lot of teachers who were always willing to help those who were shamed for their differences that weren't accepted. The teachers were absolutely the backbone of Holland High, they wanted to see everyone succeed no matter the sacrifice. My worst experiences were with the very entitled students who thought they could do no wrong, which caused some teachers in the school to change schools/districts or retire completely which broke my heart a bit because those teachers deserve to be treated with respect by all students. I would change the way the school disciplines their students as it is quite obvious that sometimes they turn the other way when a parent gets involved which should not be an issue when punishing a misbehaving student.... Senior: At my High School “Western High School,” it’s very hard to say if it’s good or bad. This is because it’s in the middle. We have great teachers, some being a bit overly strict and mean on assignments, while the rest are good or amazing. Substitutes are a whole different story, they aren’t usually the best and don’t do their job to their full capacity and power. The students at the school aren’t exactly the most accepting people or very kind. They usually will mock others and manipulate others. As for the good parts of the school. In English 12 we learn about colleges, how to apply, scholarships, financial aid, etc. In our Financial Literacy class for 12th grade we learn about checks, checking accounts, car loans, debt, and a lot more about money and finance. As for arts, we got a lot here, we have done pottery, independent studies, paper and plaster sculptures, human sculptures (though this was a one year deal), photography of all sorts, and portfolio reviews.... However, my fear was changed to joy when I met the teachers and my soon-to-be best friends. And if you feel like you're alone, you aren't. If you join a sports team or theater you gain a family. Senior: Within Crestwood Highschool, we have all managed to leave an impact. With the challenging courses, enlightening events, and eventful clubs, I saw brightness in my four years attending this highschool. My sports experience, for example, I started off in middle school being dragged to attend tryouts for the sake of helping a friend, but soon made the team and built a great bond with the coach. My coach, Mrs. Milewski, saw an inexperienced athlete and built on the potential I had. She taught us that the purpose of doing sports is for the sake of doing something you enjoy, that it is more mental instead of physical, that no matter what happens on the court she is proud. And among that healing mentality, my freshmen and sophomore year of volleyball are met with the same goals, same, mentality, and same positive community.
