High School Junior: The summer of becoming a freshman at Portage Northern High School, my family and I moved from Missouri. I knew nobody, and was very worried about how classmates would treat me and how well I'd do academically. After the first full day of school, I already met my first friends in the new state, who came up to me on their own to ask about me. The entire school is like this; if someone is sitting alone or isn't talking much in class, other students will talk to them and include them with friendly attitudes. Even the teachers care deeply about their students, because if someone seems like their struggling with their work or has difficulties answering questions, the teacher will either email them or talk after class to try and help them out so they don't fall behind, even without the student asking.

There are many clubs for students to join, so there's something for everybody. There's athletic clubs and teams, yoga clubs, language clubs, and volunteer clubs. Most students participate in at least one extracurricular activity per week, so there's always something new to indulge in after school.

I absolutely love attending my high school; nobody is left out of any activities, everyone carries themselves with pride for their school, and there are many fun ways to learn more.

High School Senior: Forest Hills Eastern is no doubt a beautiful building (many have likened it to an airport) and I have been provided with an excellent education and a close group of friends. I have never been bullied (although some students have dealt with this issue) and the campus is well-maintained (security-wise and aesthetically-wise). The dances are very pleasurable (except for the snacks) and are events that I always look forward to with my friends, Additionally, 'spirit' weeks provide further student involvement and creativity. Generally, the teachers are very competent in the subject they teach and provide further assistance if a student requires.

However, the school could do with providing further encouragement to ALL clubs (I was part of the Gay Straight Alliance Club and the principal was not very supportive of this club) and the school should provide more courses, such as Life Skills, which would provide further intellectual and experiential enrichment on the students' behalf. The busy 6-class schedule (7 for some, if they have zero hour) tends to press for time and smothers any break time that could be utilized for more urgent business such as using the bathroom. The school starting time (7:35 am) is quite stressful on the teenage body and would be more beneficial for student health (many students tend to doze off during first hour) if the start time was pushed to 8:35 am instead.

Overall, I did enjoy my time at Forest Hills Eastern, and if I were to travel back in time and re-select an institution to study in, I would probably choose FHE al over again.
