Senior: The school has strong ethics and intelligence. Many of the students and faculty are respected and treated as equals. Students are always challenged with their courses and can most always have an increase in difficulty level if needed. Teachers are humble and are easily approachable, but in the past few years have been leaving often. Many of the students are becoming attached to teachers that leave very soon. The change from a normal school to a boarding assesses the strengths of a student and brings them to the surface. Allowing many students to blossom as their own person able to research and find a strong career path. MSSM molds many students to a fine young adult, but because of the small bubble around MSSM few students also are heavily troubled with seclusion and find that a normal high school would be better suit. Senior: Cape Elizabeth is wonderful in many ways, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience the system from kindergarten to my current status of a senior in the high school. Above all the staff and administration is what has stood out to me. I really feel cared for by my teachers and counselors in this community. They always go the extra mile to support me and my peers. The student body is competitive which can bring some stress, but it also has pushed me to strive to do better. There are so many opportunities and experiences unique to Cape that I am forever grateful for. The small student body makes for a tight knit community and you will never be overlooked. Classes are challenging but mostly in a good way, and topics are relevant and interesting. Senior: This school has amazing resources for academics as well as sports. Many of the teams frequently win state championships and the athletes push each other to work hard. Academically it’s the same way. Yarmouth definitely puts significant pressure on students to achieve excellent grades and accomplish the best. It can feel like a lot at times, but it is also a community that makes you push yourself, which I think can be good. Other: High School offers a variety of Advanced Placement classes, Extracurriculars, and has an overall beautiful campus. Teachers are incredibly friendly and care about seeing their students grow and try to help them understand the subjects. Personally, I had a good experience with the Ceramics teacher, who let me throw after school when I didn't have the time during the school to strengthen my skills. It would have been very nice to see more diverse teachers as well as peers. Senior: The classes range in small sizes (<25), which provide the teachers with the incentive to support students individually. Their lunches exceed in quality over any above-average high school. Campus is decent and offers enough versatility for most athletic teams and events. The buses are mostly old, and somewhat reliable—driving is a practical decision. The student body is tight-knit, friendly, and not too stoned. The performing arts, athletics, and student govt. programs are fabulous. CHRHS is generally but not proactively liberal. Has no A/C but good heating. The library is small but cozy and proactive. The visual arts and science classes are well-equipped. Students learn vigorously, but not overwhelmingly. CHRHS has recently pushed for more college support. Amongst COVID-19, they've been well-versed in remote schooling and is ahead of the curve in providing for the student body. Senior: Orono High-school have been such a wonderful place to further my education, while also allowing a place to connect with peers and for student to play any sport they like or contribute to our fine arts programs. Orono has guided me to not only be a better student but a better person. They have showed me excellent work ethic for me to continue my education in college. Alum: I had a good experience; teachers were friendly and staff always worked to make the school a better place. I always loved the library and the librarians, the new track and turf, and the interesting visual/performing arts classes I took. And if it was a normal class, the teachers did their best to make it interesting. There was never any big trouble at this school. Every year there were teachers that I really enjoyed and connected with, and overall my years there were fun. Sometimes classes were tough, but that's part of a normal high school experience. Senior: Hampden Academy is welcoming to all. Everyone is helpful when needed. It’s been a great experience for the 4 years I’ve been attending. There is a wide variety of classes for people planning to major in different subjects after high school. There are many clubs and activities that most teachers run. Sports are also very popular at Hampden Academy. We have Great student sections. Although there are some teachers that are harder to work with than others, most teachers are understanding with getting assignments done on top of work, sports, and other responsibilities. Teachers also offer help time before and after school which is very helpful in certain classes someone might struggle with. Teachers put effort into helping us get good grades and achieve our goals. Junior: There are so many passionate, engaged teachers at this school. I have consistently had my asks for help met with enthusiasm and genuine effort, and most are often available after school. The classes are very good, and the selection is incredible considering it's Bangor Maine. The school offers ample opportunities to its students and I feel satisfied with its academic curriculum. I'm keeping it at four stars because the infrastructure is incredibly problematic. We've had construction for approaching three years now. There was a waterfall-like flood down a stairwell in the past month that flooded one of the B-lobbies. the bathrooms are unofficially off-limits to all but the bravest of bladders due to a prevalence of kids hanging out in there to "talk" with the strong smell of cotton candy on more than one occasion. Senior: It's really good for a high school, but there are some things that bother me a bit. WHS puts so much emphasis on the football team above any other sports or clubs. It seems as if they don't care about art programs that much of even certain clubs like the Gay-Straight-Trans-Alliance. Also, there are a few teachers that are simply bad. They won't take any criticism or adjustment opportunities from professional development meetings on Wednesday, and really don't grasp the idea that not all students learn the same way. Senior: Casco Bay provides a unique educational experience being an expeditionary learning school. I have taught at nearby schools, given presentations to professionals, and have been given opportunities to pursue topics I am passionate about. This has allowed me to gain a deep understanding of subjects and how they connect to our world. The only problems that come to mind regard specific teachers. Some teachers struggle to provide proper education due to disorganization. I believe, on a district-wide level, there needs to be an increase in training or educational requirements and harsher consequences for failed teacher examinations. This is not to say that the school lacks good teachers, an example of a remarkable one is the Freshman history teacher, who was awarded the Maine Teacher of the Year. Senior: My experience at Hermon High School was fun. They encourage sports and have on site tutors open for every block during the day. The staff is very kind and the majority of teachers are there to support students. Extra curricular's and clubs are offered, student led, with an advisor, and I really enjoyed participating in a few of them. They have resources and opportunities if you talk to your guidance counselor, and mine actually helped me finalize my major and help me make decisions towards my future. Hermon High School also offers 2 spirit weeks, one for homecoming, and one during the winter. There are games and competitions on the last days, and themes for dressing up throughout the week.
