Senior: Renaissance High is an excellent school for academically-motivated students. From the renowned International Baccalaureate program to the ISU AA program, students have the full support behind them of everybody from faculty to administration. There is not a better Idaho high school for college preparation! Renaissance also has great facilities - it is designed to reflect many aspects of a college with open ceilings and tables+chairs throughout. With that said, Renaissance is not without its flaws. Some are turned off by the lack of athletics at RHS, which is understandable. The school allows student athletes to compete with their boundary schools, but it's simply a different experience than the other athletes. The culture at RHS is very, very progressive and some may not be comfortable with that aspect either. Some students report feeling left out or even disliked if they do not fit in with this culture. Junior: I am currently a junior at MMACHS and attending this school has been one of the best decisions I have ever made! The staff and students are amazing people, and to me, they feel like my second family. Everything at MMACHS is amazing, whether it be the academics or the extracurricular activities. Furthermore, this school has provided me with so many opportunities that I wouldn’t have been able to experience if I was at a public Highschool. Alum: My years at Boise High were interesting to say the least. Sophomore year it was still considered peak covid and we had hyrbid schedules until the 4th quarter. Junior year was everyone together and finally no masks at 4th quarter. SENIOR YEAR WAS NORMAL which I was ecstatic about. The teachers were great and we all did the best we could with what we had. In my three years I have felt welcomed by every teacher and got along with everyone. Gossip spread fast given it’s highschool but it never really affected people too much. The dances were very fun and no one had a student section like ours despite us not being the greatest at sports. Regardless of that the school spirit was INSANE and it was just amazing to be around. One thing I would say I would like to see change is there should be more students involved in student council and not just have members of stuco win and do everything all the time. Senior: I have loved my time at Meridian Technical Charter High School. The small class sizes have made me more confident in myself and my leadership skills. I love being able to have a close relationship with my teachers so they can get to know me as a student. The students are always eager to learn and you get a sense of community within your grade and even people outside of your grade level. Even though it's not your typical high school experience, MTCHS helps you prepare for life after high school. In my experience, my required senior year internship was not only paid, but they also hired me on as an employee when I was finished with my 280 hours. Not many people can say that they were able to get a full time job right out of high school in the field that they want to go into, and I only got that because of the internship program at MTCHS.... Senior: I've been at Liberty Charter school since 4th grade, and I'll be graduating this week from Liberty. This school has such a great community. Everyday I'm surrounded with teachers, classmates, and friends that make going to school and learning an amazing experience. The rules are a lot stricter here, but they are still reasonable and manageable, and it's all worth it to be part of such a great environment. Parent: We are in our 10th year at Sage and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. We started in kindergarten, and their IB program provides so much hands-on inquiry-based learning to make school fun for young learners. The teachers are all amazing. There is no school on Fridays, giving students a chance to recoup or catch up on schoolwork, and the teachers and staff have a full day each week to collaborate, prep, and learn. Their middle school and high school programs are rigorous but fair, and do a wonderful job preparing our kids for college, career, and just life in general! Parent: Pros: Fantastic for letting children work at a pace that is right for them. This is a college prep school and the work required reflects that. The curriculum takes work both on the student's part and the learning coach's part. The teachers are helpful and care about the students doing well. Communication is wonderful. This school is a great choice if you want an online school with strong curriculum or if you want to homeschool your child but need some direction and want them to earn an accredited high school diploma. I do not regret choosing this school for my children and am excited to see where it takes them next! Cons: Most of the student body is in only one part of the state, leaving some students feeling disconnected from available activities due to travel times. The school appears to be working to remedy this, however, by arranging online fieldtrips that students from all parts of the state can attend. Senior: I would say I have been more than content enough at Victory Charter School. There are many traits to love and to despise. One thing that stands out at Victory is the community. Our community is probably one of the best around the valley. The students get along so well and by the end of the year we become more like family. This also includes the teachers! The teachers are so helpful when it comes to helping students whenever they need or organizing events, even if it means staying at school all day. My school doesn't have many students or teachers, but I think this is why we can grow so close to one another. Nobody is scared to ask questions or ask for extra help, this is why Victory Charter is such a pleasant place. Now don't get me wrong every school has its flaws. Well Victory's is the rules, whether that is no talking in the hauls, strict dress code, or only having off-campus lunch once a quarter. Alum: I'm a recent alumni who went to North Idaho STEM Charter Academy since 4th grade, and I can honestly say I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else. The school takes itself seriously when it comes to academics, employing a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for the real world and higher level classes, as well as gives them the knowledge they need to succeed in college or the workforce. The teachers know their stuff - many of the high school teachers are certified to teach college credit, and they want to see you succeed. As for activities, there are a plethora of projects elementary and middle school participate in that are both fun and promote teamwork/learning, such as First Lego League and National History Day. High school has clubs like Quiz Bowl and Book Club that allow students to take a break from academics and hang out with friends while also pursuing their passions. Senior: I enjoyed participating with Thomas Jefferson Charter School from Kindergarten through my senior year. I particularly enjoyed the staff's adaptability for each student by providing more difficult and particularly useful skills to use not only for school but for life. This school pushed me to accomplish things I never thought would be possible. I have learned valuable skills and haven't ever felt lost during my transition from High School to college. Parent: With all the uncertainty in the world, I was hesitant to send my first born to school. He wanted to do in-person learning so I looked into all our options from public to private to charter schools. Many of my friends kids attend the Gem Meridian campus and love it so we chose the Gem Nampa location. I’m so glad we did! All the staff genuinely care about all the kids. The school keeps you up to date with all your children’s needs via a free app that’s easy to download to your phone. Staying in touch with your kids teacher and the staff couldn’t be easier! Senior: Xavier's main strength is creating unity. Two years ago, they created a "house" system where it is a class period for grades 7-12. We do many things such as mentorship, service, dancing, and competing in sports. For mentorship, an upperclassman would partner with a seventh grader and "mentor" them through their seventh-grade year. A plus about Xavier is that it is a small school. We are pretty much family because most of us have been at Xavier since kindergarten (Xavier has kindergarten through 12th grade in the same building). we know each other very well and the school makes an effort to do it. I also know that Xavier makes sure that bullying is always addressed and thought of as a very serious matter. We have a presentation at the beginning of every year and there is very little bullying. Senior: North Star is a very tight-knit community that was very scary to walk into halfway through my high school career. However, these students are welcoming to new people as they are used to having exchange students (which is a whole other grand experience in itself). Thought I was meant to be part of the IB Programme, I ended out being in the [obviously less favorable] Capstone Program. North Star is beginning the Business Associates program with all incoming freshmen and students so-forth. Senior: I believe Centennial High School provides a great education. With most teachers being encouraging and always willing to help, all the while making learning interesting and enjoyable. Through sports, dances, and more, I have met so many new people I hope to keep lasting relationships with. Through school have met friends and even my girlfriend who I will give anything to keep. The school spirit showed by the students, staff, band, and parents at all events is amazing. Making all sports events and assemblies fun and engaging. Not only have I made long lasting relationships with students at Centennial, but also with the teachers. Senior: I find that I enjoy going to school at South Fremont High School the majority of the time. It is a smaller school, so there are less opportunities than what bigger schools get, but I'm glad it's a smaller school. I really like the majority of my teachers and the coaches I've had, and I've enjoyed being able to play sports for my school and supporting other sports activities as well. Our facilities are pretty run down though, so it would be nice to see a lot of things fixed or upgraded. Our school food is not great either, though it's not terrible. We have a pretty good vending machine selection though, which is nice. The students are pretty good for the most part too, we don't have very much bullying or anything, and typically people are super willing to help with anything anyone might need. Parent: I moved my daughter from Marsh Valley to Century and it’s a night and day difference. The teachers actually teach and care and my daughter is learning and thriving. The guidance counselors are helpful and the opportunities for advanced classes is insane! There isn’t much time for kids to bond or get in trouble because they are taught and expected to do work proving they are learning. It is pretty intense but I’m convinced my daughter will be well prepared to be successful in college and in life. The focus at this school is on point, MV district office and high school staff should come and be schooled how to play school the right way. Plus the district follows state and federal laws and is actually professional so that’s a plus if you have a child that has an IEP. I’ve been blown away with my daughters teachers and how much she’s learning. She’s taking so many college classes and they are allowing her to grow. Senior: Most of the teachers and staff there are amazing, and extremely helpful in academic and future preparation. The best part of my high school experience here has been being able to talk with the teachers and receive help, recommendations, and resources. Although the majority of my high school career has been good, there have have been instances when it hasn’t been good in the slightest. My school has a bullying problem, despite the problem being right in front of them, they often turn a blind eye to those inflicting and receiving the bullying. Hopefully in my last year at marsing high school, the staff and students will try to minimize bullying as much as possible. Senior: Grace Junior/Senior High School is a great little school nestled in a little valley in southern Idaho. It is very safe and sheltered and, due to the size, every student can have a personalized one-on-one learning experience. The only downside is the lack of variety and opportunity in sports, clubs, and academics. Grace Junior/Senior High School has more of a variety than other small schools might have, but there are not enough students to participate in various new and different clubs and sports, and there are is not enough student interest for there to be more diverse classes available.
