Alum: Teachers are all very nice and understanding. Science program is known across the country for its microbiology and specific high-class tech/ microscopes. School doesn't devote much to the arts, but the teachers especially for theater and band are incredible and extremely passionate about teaching and providing opportunities/support. The football team sucks and only wins maybe one or two games a year, but they are mostly known for their cross-country team instead which competes and makes it to nationals. Lots of clubs and opportunities to find your 'group' of people. Has college advisors and College Success Foundation to help students progress and make the next step, especially financially.... Senior: I have enjoyed my time at Mt. Spokane. Overall I have experience a positive, welcoming environment, where the staff genuinely wants you to succeed and will help you get where you need to be. The sports programs and the games are always a highlight, and the events the school puts on could never be outdone. In terms of improvements, the food is not anything special, but I understand it likely could not be changed. Mt. Spokane seems to support the arts, however I would like to see more recognition and funding for the music and performing arts programs. All in all, despite its flaws, Mt. Junior: Mead is a great school. They have excellent teachers who truly care about how well we re understanding material and they want us to excell. The only thing I think they can improve on is caring about our seniors during this hard time. Most other schools in the spokane area have done so much for their seniors including spray painting on football fields, decorating parking spots and delivering signs to every seniors house. Junior: I've been going to this school for 7 1/2 years, and it's been amazing. The teachers and staff are friendly and helpful, and the classes are informative. Going here has really helped me in my education experience throughout my elementary, middle school, and high school years. Now, because of this school, I have learned so much and am on track to graduate high school with my associates degree. Senior: Ferris has been a great school! The teachers are super responsive and there are a lot of activities and clubs available for all students. I have completed all 4 years of my high school career at Ferris and it has been a great experience. During the 2020 quarantine and lock-down measures taken by the state all my teachers and supporting staff were very helpful an available even though it was a struggle for the staff as well as all students. Ferris High School is also a very beautiful campus. The facilities and grounds are well kept which creates an inviting and calm school environment. The band and choir program, in my opinion are both awesome. I have enjoyed being part of the band company all 4 years at Ferris. The other academic program that I believe has contributed to my success as a student is the foreign language and science departments. Junior: What I LOVE about Central Valley High School is the commitment the teachers have to their students. They help them out whenever is needed, and are kind and respectful. Students are listened to and there are rarely any trouble-making going on. Our counselors are very helpful and appreciative of their assigned kids. What I would like to see change is the involvement in the school--more kids need to be involved and encouraged to. Have more opinions be heard, AKA, don't do the same themes every year. Senior: Lakeside has been an interesting experience. Through COVID-19, the pandemic, and much more, Lakeside has treated me quite well. My freshman year there was a lot of support for the incoming students who felt lost. Sophomore year when covid hit, the staff and faculty made sure that we were taken care of and that our grades wouldn’t hurt us because they understand that we were experiencing life and school completely differently than we ever had. My junior year, at attempts of being “normal”, went quite well. Our athletics returned, and although State championships didn’t, our school spirit did. My senior year however has by far been the best. Our staff has shown immense support for getting us onto our next journey in life, helping us get there and celebrating what we’ve done, and where we’ll go. West Valley HS has a running start opportunity allowing juniors and seniors to take courses at community college or a University for dual credit that can be used towards their high school graduation requirements and college credit. Senior: A great high school that prepared me for my future and shaped me to be who I am today. This school is unlike any other, you learn more than just basic academics, you learn real life skills! This school has pushed me to be the best I can be, everyone is supportive and kind, they truly care about you. Senior: Spokane Valley High School is a small, project based learning school. This means that we get to have more field trips and hands on learning, but that also means we sacrifice some of the givens of larger high schools. We don't have enough students or teachers to make AP or Honors classes worthwhile, and the same goes for sports and clubs. We are living under the wing of West Valley High School, however, so if clubs and sports interest you you're always welcome to go there after school. With that being said, we are very involved in our community and participate in events like Valley Fest. We are almost constantly involved in some sort of community service, and what you learn in class is always applicable to everyday life. The small school setting (we have just over 100 kids) allows for strong bonds between students and plenty of one-on-one time with the teachers so you can ensure you are getting a quality education. Senior: Lakeland is an amazing school. They care about higher education and the wellbeing of all the students. Every single teacher there wants their students to do well and succeed in life. When I walk into classrooms, I feel welcome, like I belong there. Some teachers make it a point to be funny to get their students to laugh. In my opinion, that is the best environment to learn in. Some teachers could turn the most boring class into the most interesting one. One teacher I have had for two different class (and a third one this year) is so amazing! He doesn't look at us as just students. He realizes that we are human and need breaks. So about every week, we would do a short meditation to just relax. He told us not to think about school and instead think about something that makes us happy. Sophomore: Cheney High School has diverse classes that appeal to a large audience. There is something for pretty much all students. Parent: Shadle park high school for my son was good. He learned a lot and the teachers were very knowledgeable and understanding. Freshman year is scary for a kid, but the school took good care of the students. They made sure they knew where to go, how to open their lockers, when to take lunch, when classes started and ended. The sophomore year was easier for him. He was comfortable with the school, the teachers his schedule and all his classes. He liked the layout of the school. My son also said the lunches they served were pretty good. Physical Education was fun for him. They learn all kinds of sports like basketball, volleyball, golf, and long distant running. One of his favorite classes was woodworking. He learned about the machines, the different types of wood and how to make really cool things with wood. His senior year was a challenge because of Covid. Freshman: PFHS has a great community of students. Upperclassmen help out with the Freshmen via our Link program, helping them adjust and get to know people and community events throughout the year. The teachers are great and are very involved in the school’s clubs, events, and activities. Our facility is very clean and we are able to host many community events there, including our annual craft fair, events with local police officers, sports events, etc. One of the things I would change in our school is the way our students mental health is addressed. Though we have a Sources of Strength program at our school, I feel as if they could be more personally involved in our students and give them more resources. Senior: My experience at Lake City High School has been pure gold. There's no other school around that carries the connectedness and school spirit of the students. When the students get spirited, they get SPIRITED. The students are so kind and respectful for the most part, and the school offers abundant opportunities. The block schedule allows for four classes a day with plenty of time for teachers to teach and students to do their work. Depending on how many of your required credits you finish by your senior year, you could have even fewer classes a day. The school offers a wide variety of extracurriculars, and has an ever growing arts, music, and sports program. LCHS offers courses, such as STOMP in the music department, that you won't find anywhere else. The staff is amazing and truly cares about their students.
