Niche User: Eagle Harbor High School is what you make of it, for better or for worse. If you don't like school, you can take easy classes and skate by. If you want to take a really rigorous courseload and go to an elite school, you can also do that. There's just a lot more freedom here than at most schools. The contract system allows students to create their own classes and learn from mentors and teachers outside of the school. Lots of kids do contract-classes in advanced math, engineering, alternative PE such as horseriding, less commonly taught languages like Hebrew, and you can also take more AP classes than are offered as seat-based classes. Since teachers get to know their students really well, students choosing to apply to colleges are almost guaranteed excellent, thorough letters of recommendation. At the same time, as an alternative school, it has more relaxed graduation requirements and students can use the contract system to design simpler "substitutes" for required classes. A lot of our students come from less conventional circumstances; we've had kids who do modeling and chose EHHS for the more flexible scheduling options, and kids who want to specialize in certain fields of study and don't want to bother with required subjects. Ultimately, Eagle Harbor gives students the freedom to choose how they want to learn and what they want to spend their time on.
