Junior: People often hear the "all girls" thing and immediately create their own ideas of what our school is like without even going there a day. Talkington SYWL has been ranked THE best school in Lubbock year after year for a reason. Whether you want to talk about the incredible educators and staff, the close bonds with your classmates, the tight-knit community, or the beyond-amazing educational opportunities, there are endless things to celebrate about Talkington. I have been attending since the Fall of 2018, and I have never once considered another school. We push ourselves academically here, all while creating incredible bonds and memories. We don't have typical high school events (football, etc.), so we have/create our own (which many consider to be even more fun)! The tight bond I feel with my class is something so special. Senior: My overall experience at Frenship High School was great. The teachers were all very welcoming and made sure that I had a great educational experience. As a student, I was able to take part in a lot of activities such as Orchestra, Photo Club, SkillsUSA, and BPA. I really enjoyed the variety of activities that were available. I also liked the fact that the school had a strong focus on academics. The school provided a great atmosphere for learning and gave me the opportunity to pursue my educational goals. Senior: The school is amazing when it comes to advanced academics, being able to contend with even the best high schools in Texas! However, the school is adamant in "preserving" the school as a museum, but that came at the cost of horrible restrooms and questionable materials. Many of the tiles still have asbestos underneath them, and the chandeliers to the old entrance have rusted to the point that they're all stationary at an awkward angle. Parent: Lubbock-Cooper is a great district. I feel that there is not a perfect school system out there because that would imply that they are able to meet the needs of each and every one of their students daily and I just don't think that exists. Parents are relatively involved in the high school. At least those that can be. Most parents work which makes it difficult to be able to do all the things but on the whole, most parents show up for their children. Alum: I love Roosevelt Highschool! I am very proud to have graduated from such an amazing school! I loved waking up every morning to go to school eager to learn more and more everyday! There were a few things I would have changed while attending Roosevelt. For instance, I would have changed some of the disciplinary actions at the school. Sometimes the students would do things and get in trouble but the staff would overlook the problem. I felt like there should have been alittle more action and procedures that should have took place in those moments! Overall Roosevelt Highschool is an extraordinary school. Junior: This school provides many college resources. As a student you can take many dual credit courses that not only count for college credit, but Highschool credit as well. You are able to take dual credit with teachers and on your own. There are also many activities and clubs you can join. These include theatre, art, uil, and many more. This school is mainly a sports affiliated school, so it can be pretty hard for some programs to thrive. There are many opportunities to be a part of and help the community. Society’s such as YELL and NHS provide a very efficient community outlook. The school may be small but it provides so many opportunities. Most students have found their talents and succeeded in them. Senior: Shallowater has been a part of my life since I started pre-k. I have loved going to school here. it is my Home. Yes, everything comes with its bad but the good outweighs the bad. I have never had any trouble getting the teachers or coaches to help me with work or my athletic activity. The only problem I have ever had here is that the administration in the high school was not strong during my freshman year. When a structured administration came in my sophomore year it was a huge change and that is something I was not used to. Senior: Abernathy High School is a small school located 15 minutes North of Lubbock. The campus is a really nice campus and there are benches along the school where students and teachers can sit and eat. The students at Abernathy are really supportive towards one another. Alum: Sundown ISD is a premiere small town public school. The two biggest things they get knocked for in West Texas, are the two biggest things lacking in most of the other schools: 1. Intense discipline 2. High expectations When I was a kid at this school, we’d all complain about our teachers giving us too much homework, and making us come in 30 minutes before school started to get help in HW. Little did we know, we were getting the closest thing to a military grade education you could receive in West Texas. This school is a tight ship. We joked, and called it “Sundown Christian Math Academy”… All of those old school tactics though, were never delivered without a good helping of genuine love and patience from the staff. You always know that someone is watching, and that somebody cares. It’s a very intimate setting that gets redundant, but students here thrive because they know that they’re getting an education unlike anything else in Texas. Senior: This is a great small school in West Texas. The teachers and administration at Whitharral truly do care about you and your success. The teachers are always willing to help students learn and go the extra mile for each student so they can succeed. I feel Whitharral school has provided a great education for me, and I am definitely prepared for my college experience. I am able to connect with all students from elementary-high school and all teachers, due to the size of the school. Alum: The best thing about high school was being able to enjoy the many extra activities I got to pick. Band trips were always a favorite all 4 years of school, A Capella choir made me realize I love being a leader to other people around me and help out in the best ways I can to all around me. I enjoyed being in the art club, with all of the varies of students. It would always push me to do better drawing and painting for class and spirit week projects. Being able to compete and win medals for myself or my team made me feel like I could accomplish so much in life even after I left school. The things that lacked in school were simple like lack of useable a water fountains in every hallway, restrooms got torn down and permanently closed for the year, and the counselors were never in the office when you needed it the most throughout the year. Senior: Coronado high school is a great school and has challenged me throughout the years to become a better student academically. Coronado has a variety of choices for students who are unsure about the path they would like to take. Coronado high school students have a choice to attend classes at the Byron Martin ATC where they can get real world experience and even graduate with certifications so they can go straight into working after high school! There is a program for every student at Coronado whether it be mariachi, black student union, law enforcement, welding, medical fields and more! Coronado high school prepares students for college by offering dual credit and AP classes as well so students can get a head start! Junior: I love how spirited our school is compared to other schools. I also love how much my teachers care about all of us and how much they want to help us be successful. What I love the most is the tutoring lab. Senior: I like the fact that entire Olton school district as a whole is making a great effort towards making the schools a safer environment; they've implemented many security doors, and a lanyard system to identify whether or not an adult belongs around the district. The worst part of my experience is the parking space for athletes. A majority of the parking lot is reserved by the band for practicing their field show, but it is unfair to the people who are forced to park further, making their lunches shorter as a whole.
