Junior: Moving from notes and test learning to project and work based learning was challenging. Although this was a challenge, I am glad they encourage it entering middle school so you are not adjusting late. I enjoy the projects we do often and how they show what we learned in the classroom. Of course we still have test and quizzes for the required class, but being able to show physically what we learned helps me understand because I can apply it While their motto is "Accepting Culture for Everyone" the environment does not always show that. Simple things make me feel as if we are little kids. We don't have fun weeks, big homecomings, prom or big events. If they do put them on its not interactive or fun and no many people attend. I thought this would be a good change for me especially making the decision in elementary school but I do not feel that way anymore. Alum: Overall my experience at CHS was solid. I found the education system oftentimes daunting and not necessarily completely a showing of the necessities for college. For example the abolishment of exams, though very much a stress reliever it also gives that lack of preparation for what’s to come in further education. I found many teachers helpful on the other hand. I’d really like to give appreciation towards the teachers during the 2020-2021 year. Teaching basically two classes because of covid they had to endure arguably more than the students and I want to show my appreciation for that. Senior: Oakwood is definitely the best school system in the Dayton area. The community is very involved and feels centered around the schools. It's not cheap to live in Oakwood, but everyone knows this and considers it worth it for the schools. The only thing that Oakwood does not rate well in is diversity. Senior: My experience at Bellbrook High School has been second to none. I am proud to say that I will be graduating from this school. From the wide range of available courses, to involvement in the community, and enjoying the football games on Friday nights. Alum: Most of the teachers at this school were very encouraging and kind. You could walk through the halls and not worry about not being understood or heard by your teachers. That is one thing that this school does well, is that they create a community of care. However, they are also very focused on sports and athletics. So much so that the other extracurriculars such as band or theatre don't get as much spotlight and recognition for all the hard work they have put in. With the school believing us My choir Chamber and Choral got to sing at CARENGIE HALL ! which was in NYC, and this happened my senior year, I totally had an great time and i'm also happy that I was able to continue my path into singing and that this school and my choir teacher helped us make it this far! Alum: I had both highs and lows during my three years at Beavercreek High School. I'm relieved to have more pleasant memories than unpleasant ones. Being able to cheer for the three years of football and basketball games was one of the nicest experiences I've ever had. The best times I ever had were those. Developing a solid relationship with the administration was another positive experience I had. Senior: I think Troy High school is a great high school with an amazing family aspect. When I was a freshman the upper classmen made me feel very welcomed and now I hope to do the same for all the freshman. Senior: I love my school! Every teacher I ever had would do anything for my success. They offer their time and resources to help students learn. They listen to our struggles- both in school and in our personal lives. I was quarantined this year for being in close contact with someone who was diagnosed with the Corona Virus. My teachers went out of their ways to set up meetings with me, they hand delivered my work to do at home, and they even messaged me to see how I was handling the extra time alone. However, as a student athlete and performer, I have been very disappointed with the school's lack of recognition to certain students. I go to a school that highly values football, and tends to dismiss the successes of others. Nearly all sport funding goes toward football, even though several other sports outperform the football team year after year. Senior: Although there are great aspects in living in a small community, there are also disadvantages. Resources are more limited and there are less opportunities, academically and with extracurricular prospects. Due to being limited, I took advantage of the College Credit Plus (CCP) program to attend college classes, which allowed me to obtain college credit for classes that were more challenging and appealing for me. This opportunity also provides me an introduction to college while still taking a class through the high school. Unknowingly, I pursued CCP before a season in my life that would be best to not be tied to the high school. In August 2019, I started my junior year of High School and CCP classes at Miami University in Middletown. On August 24, 2019, my father passed away very unexpectedly. Having the college classes allowed me to escape high school, which was much needed at that time. So, no matter the situation (or size of school), always look for additional opportunities!...
