Alum: I started at Rancho Cucamonga High School, 2020, during COVID, so of course my first year wasn’t great due to distant learning and setting my peers only through a tv screen, but once I was on the campus, my time at Rancho was great! I was apart of the Varsity Dance Team and was captain both my junior and senior year! I enjoyed my classes, teachers and peers. Sophomore: The experience at Middle College is quite the courageous road to embark upon for any high school student. In regards to the fact that there is concurrent enrollment requiring you to be involved in college education as well as Middle College, the effort to do well and persevere might be challenging for some. Alum: As a Los Osos High School Alum I have the privilege to explain my experience at this high school. Overall Los Osos is a very clean, large, and new high school. The teachers and staff at this high school are also great. I have created excellent relationships with some teachers while attending high school and have kept those relationships. Los Osos' message is to push students to their absolute potential, and because of this message, I have pushed myself to my highest level academically. The staff at this school take pride in creating safe and healthy environments for students, but overall helps present them with opportunities that allow them to succeed. Senior: I believe Redlands High School has a very safe, inclusive, and a generally positive environment. One of the best resources on campus, the teachers here are excellent, and many go above and beyond to ensure that students properly understand the material. Specifically, the advanced math and science class teachers are always willing to provide additional resources for struggling students, go over topics multiple times, and are forgiving and willing to listen to students if they need something specific. Though there tends to be pressure to succeed, students hardly discuss personal test scores, statistics, or any information which could be used to "rank" a student. On the other hand, there have been multiple issues with students vaping in the restrooms or being involved in on-campus fights. Senior: The many outlets and opportunities provided by Citrus Valley has made my time spent here truly memorable. The wide array of student run clubs makes it easy to find a family of friends and feel accepted. The diversity of cultures and backgrounds here creates an atmosphere of acceptance; being yourself is not only tolerated but encouraged! In addition to a flat out lovely student body, the teachers here are the same. When I was going through a hard time, my teachers were compassionate and helped me navigate a way through. As a student I always found it comforting that there was a clear network in place to help students with problems concerning mental health, college, and just about anything. Parent: Ayala has consistently provided an excellent form of education for all of my children! Two of my children graduated from Ayala, and my youngest son is currently a sophomore. The teachers are excellent and have great communication with students. My children all have been involved in extracurriculars from cross country to track to swimming to yearbook- and there are many additional sports and clubs available. I have never once had a safety concern at Ayala- I have consistently felt confident that it is a safe school and a positive environment. My oldest daughter went on to go to and graduate from Azusa Pacific University, and my middle son went to UCI and graduated. They are both still friends with children they met Ayala. Senior: Being in this charter school has equipped me with everything I needed to graduate early. Senior: The best parts about my experience with Chino Hills High is that they were many clubs and opportunities to make friends, they are many sports that have different seasons you can participate in, and it helps with being more social in life. The worst parts about my experience with Chino Hills High is that there is too much drama with friends, there are a lot fights between boys and girls, and they added a lot more security guards around campus. My worst year at Chino Hills High was my junior year because I had a lot of drama with friends and family. I lost most of my friends because of the drama but I still have my best friend. The things that I would like to see change is giving the school an upgrade like new buildings, I want to see the people change because of the fighting (which is not going to happen), and I want to see less security guards (which is also not going to happen because of all the fighting on and off campus). Senior: I have been a part of the Alta Loma Cheer Team, as well as Key Club, for the past three years and am now going into my final year apart of these programs. I have loved a lot of my time here, I have stayed consistent as a part of the AP/Honors program during my time as well. However as much as our student body tries to blend the differences each student and student group has, they often fail. Most initiatives they have tried to progress diversity with stop with recognition. To say this doesn't mean you will have a horrible experience and not be welcomed into anything. It just means that the group you find will welcome you, but overall as a campus things don't always blend as idealistically as the school would hope. Overall, it is a good experience and represents a range of interests high school students may have. We have an excellent blue crew and fun sports to play and watch. Alum: Overall, REV is a very decent school - having a few notable problems, but overall being a positive experience for me and my education. In terms of positives, there's a great number of teachers that are supportive, creative, and readily available to help with my understanding of any subject. The staff there are usually going head-over-heels to help students get through to college, offering many chances at applying for scholarships, informing them of how to go through FAFSA, and how to get through AP classes without much stress. Along with this, they offer college preparation classes like AVID. In terms of negatives, its mostly the infrastructure - it could use more canopies for shade or for the (admittedly rare) rainy days, and the water fountains are usually very dirty when outside. Its more of a minor complaint as compared to the wonderful staff, but I felt it needed saying. Senior: The best parts of my experience here at University Preparatory would be the communication with my teachers and counselor and the school clubs. I liked these parts the most because I felt comfortable relying on teachers to teach me and give me the help I needed if I asked. I was able to join a few clubs over the past 2 years, starting my third, and the events that clubs were involved in made my high school experience enjoyable. The worst parts would be with the academic pressure and stress from a few classes I had. The requirements for taking 3 years of Spanish, recommendations of taking more AP/honors classes, and expectation of always maintaining a high GPA made coming to school feel nerve-racking. If felt like you were always in competition with your peers and you weren't good enough to stay in the school if you had less than a 4.0 GPA. Senior: I've attended Grove since 7th grade, currently a rising senior, and I feel that I missed out on the "normal" high school experience. Grove doesn't offer many classes that are advanced, which can be a real bummer to many students. Grove makes it easy to personalize what you want, and how to make the school your own. From starting clubs to making your agenda, Grove is very open to the student's decisions. It focuses on the students doing their own work rather than the staff doing it all for them. It is a small school, meaning you will practically know everyone, including teachers. This can be good or bad depending on students. Senior: I've had a positive experience attending Upland High School. As a senior I've gotten to know the school very well and have appreciated the opportunities that Upland has offered to me. Their programs and extracurriculars are a great way for students to participate in community service and after school clubs. The curriculum can be a bit difficult, which allows students to challenge themselves. Additionally, the school offers multitudes of AP courses which can help prepare students for college classes. As well as recourses for homework help and after school tutoring which are great ways to get academic help and support. Some areas of improvement at Upland High are its teacher to student ratio. As well as organization between counselors and teachers as I've seen various problems with inaccurate schedules and miscommunications between students and faculty. Alum: Sultana was an amazing school, I took a good amount of AP classes so most of my teachers and classmates were equally as amazing. Through this school I was able to take dual enrollment classes for college credits and follow a career through the CTE pathway. This school helped me realize that I want to pursue a career in forensic science but it also thought me that, strangely enough, I love working with kids. Sultana gave me the opportunity to work with preschoolers in a built in preschool that the school had and I will forever be grateful for that experience. I personally didn't have any real negative experiences at this school but for the teachers sake I do think the forms of communication could be better. I learned that some teachers would miss certain meeting, not by choice, but because they have class during those times. Alum: Some of the best parts of cajon high school are the connections that you make with not only friends but teachers and staff. My senior year I kept to myself a lot and just wanted to finish off the school year strong, while doing that I also made some connections with some security guards who assured me if i had any problems i could go to them. I also had some nice connections with teachers who made it easy to talk about life and my future. Some parts that i didn’t like so much were the restrooms. Every time i had to use the restroom there was always a long line and most of the times there were people just bunched up in the restroom doing nothing. Most of the time the restrooms smelled like weed and were very humid with no toilet seat covers or toilet paper. Senior: My Experience here has been alright, nothing too out of the ordinary. Of course, there was Covid which unfortunately for a bunch of us 2024 graduates had to deal with, but other than that my time here in Carter was great I'd say. Not the best, but for what it's worth the people and teachers here make the place comfortable enough to learn in. Freshman and Sophomores are a bit troublesome, but I ignore them for the most part. To most people they hate it here, but I see no problem as long as what's done is done. I'm here to learn and I've made a good group of friends in turn, so depending on who you're asking it's pretty neutral here. Senior: I began attending Excelsior Charter School in my Junior year of high school and it has been the best experience ever! I love all the teachers and staff. They’re very understanding and motivating, and I feel like they genuinely want the students excel in life rather than only wanting to know what we memorized throughout the year. The work load is honestly very manageable, and I feel like I’m really learning things in my courses. Junior: Almost everyone I talk has mixed feelings about Silver Valley High. I can see why, its in the middle of the desert so bus rides are atrocious and it is a very small school so classes are limited. I’m somewhat of a go-getter so the class selection weighs down on me during schedule selection but I love this school for a reason most people hate it for. Our small campus makes it really easy for our community to stay close. I love how intertwined all the students are. One of the clubs I’m in (PBIS Club) is kind of really committed to spreading positivity on campus. We do these PBIS cafes every other Wednesday where we pass out treats to students and I hear a bunch of people love it.
