Senior: At Hingham High School, I have pursued an excellent education which has equipped me with the communicative skills and passion for learning required to make the world a better place. The friendships that I have made are invaluable and I still love hanging out with my friends. Whether it's a political discussion through Model UN, a cultural experience in the Chinese club, or an athletic excursion at wrestling practice, Hingham High is a great school for students to pursue individual interests with alike minds. If I could improve my school, I would begin by installing air conditioners. I believe that they are a smart investment as they will save many students from heat exhaustion. In addition, I would expand the capabilities of the food department. My friends and I presented a plan to install a food cart for breakfast, so I hope that they will consider it idea for future generations! Parent: Norwell High School was an amazing experience!! We had an IEP program and the skills teachers were patient, comprehensive and awesome. The School was well run and gave parents the option to be as involved as they wanted. They were informative and respectful of the families and kept the safety and educational needs of the students at the top of their list. The sports and extra curriculars covered every avenue of interest. If we had to do it all over again - we would definitely choose Norwell. Junior: I have had a good experience at my high school so far. I have good friends, excellent teachers, and even better coaches. Through all of the stress being a busy student brings me, I have loved my three years at this school, and although I will be sad to leave, I am excited for one more year. However, I have learned one thing about our school, and probably many others, that needs to change. This is the basis by which we are learning. I have felt that the things that I am learning in class, I am simply learning for the next assessment. I'm not learning it to retain the information, but instead for the reason of passing the next test. With lots of studying, I will understand the material, but looking back on my three years of high school, I can't even imagine all of the small little facts and skills that have already slipped my mind. Senior: Marshfield High School was a solid experience for me, although that may be subjective. How you like your high school completely depends on what classes you take, and who you surround yourself with. We have quality sports and clubs if you do what you are interested in, and you can always find something that you are interested in. There are some issues with administration and not listening to teachers or students, which have only been amplified during the pandemic. Alum: Overall it was a good experience. There was a wide variety of courses to take and paths to follow in many departments. The faculty and staff are very supportive and willing to help. Senior: Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical high school is a spectacular school for students who strive towards a more fulfilling future and a close community. It’s geared towards those who are interested in vocational programs and smaller schools. It has 13 different shops to choose from in many different types of fields. It has hard labor, computer, and hands-on shop options for everyone to find a shop they enjoy. Some examples are metal fabrication, computer science, culinary arts, health careers, etc. This aspect of the school prepares students for the workforce far more than regular academic-only schools. Though it might not be the most wealthy school money-wise, it is rich in community engagement. Almost everyone knows each other and even the most crazy-different personalities create the closest of bonds. Senior: Plymouth North High School is a great school, it’s diverse and it offers multiple opportunities to join in clubs, extracurricular activities, sports and tech programs all of which help further career paths for students. It give us student good opportunities to help decide what we want to do after high school. Teachers and staff are doing the best they can to teach students but it’s been a challenge since the pandemic. With that our school is not perfect and does need some change to happen beginning with controlling student behavior which has gotten a little out of control this past year. Some students have lost respect for themselves and for their teachers and with that they are making the school look bad and making others nervous. Parent: My children attended Rising Tide starting in grade 5, so we have been affiliated with the school for over 10 years. I have seen tremendous growth in all areas while my children were there. My youngest graduated from R.T. this June, and I will continue to be an advocate for them. The staff there, new and seasoned teachers to the administration, are clearly dedicated to helping each child reach their potential. The academics can be very intense - lots of homework compared to the mainstream, but the courses are geared to make them successful in college or whatever their next steps will be. I will honestly say that my oldest had some struggles with 8th grade math which made him frustrated with himself and the school, and ultimately led to him switching to public high school. Once there, it was clear how advanced and confident he was compared to students who had been at public all along. Junior: At wareham high school I have received a lot of support from teachers, and staff. I have joined five clubs and started one of my own. I have kept a spot in the top ten of my class while learning through the IB program which helps me. At WHS I have a voice, I matter, and for this reason I love Wareham Public Schools. A few things that I would change is for one the daily schedule. We have a long block in the middle and an eight day rotation which I don’t like. Freshman: BRRHS is my local public high school. It wasn’t my first choice but I had to go to acquire a 504 plan (I came from Bishop Connolly high school). I’m impressed with the school building, structure and activities it offers. I’m in cosmetology club, bridging lives, and best buddies. We are strict for a public school so there are rarely any big problems happening. Administration takes fights seriously. I feel 100% safe in my school because it is surrounded by a good area, we have a police officer office in the school, and the police station is right across the street. The teachers are great and by far the best I have ever had. Next year, sophomores will be able to take AP classes. My school has the best science program and offers an array of classes. If there is anything I could critique it would be the special education department and school drama (which goes for any school pretty much). This school made it very easy for me to find friends and talk to new people. I have also seen that the teachers are not here just to work and get paid but they actually want to teach you. Alum: The diversity was probably one of my favorite aspects of SSCPS. I had gone there K-12 so that is all I had known. I think it is a big part of what shaped me to be who I am today. I made great connections with peers who are some of the best people I've met. I never thought it was weird to call a teacher by their first name until I made friends with people who went to different schools. I think that was what helped form the connections I was able to make with teachers, which was a huge plus. Many students are actively focused on learning and academic success and so Honors and AP level class participation is high. The sports programs at PHS are okay, depending on the sport, and there are many extracurriculars to participate here, such as the award winning Marching Band and Music Section at Pembroke.
