Sophomore: I rated my experience at Liberty High School as 4/5 stars because, for the most part, I would say that I have enjoyed my time in school for the past two years. The school environment has always been extremely inclusive to all people, and that has definitely made me feel safe and welcomed. The best part of my experience at Liberty High School would be the closeness that I discovered with my friends and teachers. However, the worst part is that the girls' bathroom is not always the cleanest or safest place due to a small group of students who use the area as a place to vape and do drugs. Senior: My overall experience at Heritage high school has been great! I am involved in cross country, BPA, and have started my own chapter for a non profit. I have made made many friends throughout these experiences, and have had so many great teachers who have inspired my learning and helped me to become the best version of myself. My cross country coach has been such an inspiration for me and has helped me reach so many of my running goals. Senior: Overall, my school has prepared me for college fairly well, and it is a good school. The biggest issue I have with my school is the diversity issue, as I am a black student and it is a predominantly white school, filled with primarily like-minded people. This is one of the things I would like to see change, as I would prefer other people of color who attend this school to not have to deal with the racist remarks or actions, that happen semi-frequently. One of the best parts about my school is the fun events throughout the year, which are things this school does very well and to a larger scale than I imagine other schools would. For example, our homecoming festivities are always packed with events, we have leopard Friday for the whole Lovejoy community with food truck and games, and our football games in general are fun to attend as the community is invested.... Senior: My experience at Centennial High school was really fulfilling. It has good diversity, a wide range of classes, good career classes, and good career programs. One of my most memorable experiences at Centennial is ISM, which stands for Independent Study and Mentorship program. ISM is a research program where I got to research the topic of use of biomedical engineering in cancer; I got to meet professionals in this field and interview them on their work in the field. After I am done with the interviews I can choose a mentor that can help me with my final product that will reflect my understanding of this field. I wish there was more emphasis on career focused classes since many kids at my school only cared about having a high GPA, so kids did not have the incentive to take those classes as they did not weigh as much as AP classes. Senior: Frisco High School is the oldest high school in Frisco ISD. Currently, there are 12 high schools in the district and all of the other schools have cool new buildings with study spaces and newer equipment. The district is working on making Frisco High School more up-to-date, but during my time there, much of the building has been a disappointment. However, we are proud that we are the oldest and original high school in the district. We are #1! Our students are very proud to be THE high school for a district of 12 high schools. We work hard and we play hard. If anything has to change in this school, it would be the building itself. There just needs to be some renovation done. Junior: Studying at Plano West was a wonderful experience; I had great connections with both teachers and other students. Not only were teachers approachable and friendly, but they were also wonderful at teaching the subject at hand. As a student with a lot of APs, I am always scared that the classes would overwhelm me with too much difficult material. However, all of the teachers I've had at Plano West had put in more than sufficient effort to ensure that every student understands. On the other hand, since the student population is also large, there is a lot of competition. In addition, hallways are usually congested because of the number of students at the school. If I could change something at my school, I would attempt to build additional buildings to make buildings less crowded. Alum: Overall, I had a good experience at Lebanon Trail High School as a student who prioritizes academics over sports. The best parts were mega lunch (one hour lunch) and that most teachers were passionate about their jobs and genuinely cared about forming connections with their students and helping them succeed. While the school was strong in academics, their weakness was found in sports. There were a few sports that performed well, but it was clear that the school placed a greater emphasis on academics. If I could change anything about the school, I would work on generating more school spirit within the student body. Many students were not particularly proud of the school, nor did the majority attend sports games and events. Junior: Rockhill is a very nice modern school that puts a great effort into keeping up with modernizing technology and integrating it to help teach students. They have a large and very diverse selection of classes that you can choose from to accommodate everyone's interests. The campus is large and very nice with an open design concept for the main lobby. They have very nice administrators and are very inclusive. Rather than making too many rules that students have to follow and staff having to keep an eye out for, they put more focus on the lessons being taught in classes and the wellbeing of students. Alum: The best part of my high school experience would have to be the opportunities that I gained while in attendance there. My school sported an incredibly well funded CTE program, and because of that program I was able to land an internship right after graduation that will continue into the following school year. Though my time there wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. The worst part of my experience would have to be the difficulty of the courses I took. It was honestly a double edged sword, the classes I took pushed me to my limit but instilled and influenced a sense of excellence upon their completion. Sophomore: I've attended McKinney High for 2 years now, and I think that overall, it's a great school. MHS offers pretty much any program a student could want! From cosmetology to medicine to agriculture to aviation, there's no limits on what education you can pursue as a student at McKinney High! Also, as a student actively involved in the varsity orchestra program, I can say with certainty that our fine arts department is top of the line. I think that the ready availability of resources open for students to pursue any and every opportunity is my favorite thing about my school. On the other hand, I do think that some things could be improved about how students plan for their futures outside of high school. More direct involvement from acedemic counselors—maybe regularly scheduled meetings—would definitely be beneficial. Sophomore: For one, the amount of involvement, the academics, and even the community is really cool. The school is pretty functional and works out well. Not just that, the teachers are nice and easy-going, the classes are chill, and STEM (the 4 subjects I am very fond of) is pretty good. Some examples of the things that I liked a lot: MakerSpace in the library, Winfo, Block lunch, Step-out, and so on! There is a lot to love! For things that need improvement, I think the classes themselves need to be a bit more engaging. So that way, for people who don't like a certain subject, for example, they might not think that subject is bad after all. Not much to say about what to improve here ... Alum: Boyd was a great school! My freshman year was the most fun out of the entire four years. We had fun events and pep rallies that made going to school fun. The teachers throughout my years were great too, save for the handful that weren’t my favorites. There were some things the school did that was discouraging, such as getting rid of certain pep rallies or being too strict about things like lunch, etc. The school also had a problem with carpool lane, which made it hard to get to school and make it to class on time. It didn’t help that you only get 3 excuses until you have to go to lunch detention. No matter how early you left the house, it was always hard to make it on time and if I did make it, it was only by a smidge. As I went through the rest of school (not including Covid years), Boyd had less and less fun activities for the school to participate in.
