Senior: My overall experience with Castro Valley High School is a mixed bag. I can sit here, putting my gripes with a problematic school system, but that's low hanging fruit. I want to emphasize the unique aspects of Castro Valley High School in comparison with my limited knowledge of other schools.
To begin with, the school itself -- structurally -- could use some work. Much of the buildings are a tad bit undone, but as of 2020, many buildings are said to be in the process of remodeling. Nothing hugely detrimental with old buildings, just minor inconveniences.
The most important aspect, in my opinion, would be the teachers, and there are plenty that are good, but equally as many that sour the experience. Teachers who haphazardly disregard the learning process for shortcuts are infrequent, but remain problematic.
In all, the most important aspect is the people, and it shows in the overall character of the school - positive.

Junior: The academic focus at LPS Hayward is very intense. There is definitely a lack of clubs and extracurriculars, however, the focus is on academics and college-readiness. The experience is not stress-free, and while resources for stress management are available, they are not advocated. In fact, there is an emphasis on reaching a high standard and continuing to raise that standard. The history department is well-developed and has well-informed teachers. In general, a good majority of the teachers are also willing to help students individually if needed.
