Niche User: As someone who enjoys feeling academically challenged, I felt as though I fit in well at Newport. The overall environment is very accepting of people no matter age, gender, sexual orientation, and race/ethnicity. I came to the school the middle of my sophomore year, and at the end of the first day I had already made a group of friends! Having a variety of class options to take, I feel ready for college since I can take electives that I feel are close to what I want to pursue with my major in college. Even for students who do not intend to go to college or have no idea what they want to major in, you leave the school knowing a broader understanding of the world. Yet, it is not perfect. Academic pressure is prevalent, but as a student who already enjoys a nice challenge, it wasn't a problem for me. I love how I am able to still be liked even though I am female and smart, and I am not labeled as a nerd. I wish there was a semester-long "Life Finances" class that students are required to take for graduation so then they can learn real-life important things, such as applying for loans, banking, savings accounts, taxes, budgeting, and other stuff that students will generally not learn in school. Despite this, I love this school and I have made wonderful friends and memories here and will be sad to graduate this year.
