Craig High School
#1 Best High Schools for STEM in Rock County
- Janesville School District, WI
Junior: Craig high school is a large school, with so many offerings. I have options to be able to take just about any class that has helped shape what I want to do with the rest of my life. But, if you can not find a class that suits you, Craig has a Youth-Options program that lets you take classes at the local public university (sometimes for free)! And you can receive college credit. The majority of my teachers have been very knowledgeable in the subject area that they teach. One thing I would like to see change is the overall obnoxious clique culture at Craig. Not so much "mean girls" just many people who do not want to step outside of their close circles of friends to interact with others. Most sports are competitive to get into and have a good program.

Evansville High School
#2 Best High Schools for STEM in Rock County
- Evansville Community School District, WI
Junior: Evansville High School is unique school. Like most towns in the midwest, we are small and agriculturally focused. We have many classes dealing with agriculture and an entire wing of our building dedicated to "shop classes". On the other hand we have strong AP, computer sciences, and music programs. One thing our high school does every spring is a musical. This show is always incredible and draws crowds from all over southern Wisconsin. Another thing that is nice about our school us that the teachers are very concerned for your well being and want to see you succeed. Most teachers will give up lunch or time after school inorder to make sure you get the help you need. The students at Evansville, for the most part, are friendly and inviting. We have a wide variety of people that are interested in many things.

Rock University High School
#3 Best High Schools for STEM in Rock County
- Janesville School District, WI
Senior: Rock University High School really helped me make friends and become more comfortable with who I am as a person. My grades improved since I started at Rock University High School. The pace is faster which I enjoy and instead of finals we have final projects. I love having projects instead because I myself have always been a horrible test taker. The teachers and staff are very welcoming and they really do care about the students well being.

The Prairie School

Parent: People think they can't afford it, but Prairie gives financial aid based on your income. My kids couldn't go there without it! We're just average income people so we had to make changes to get the best education for them. We were totally surprised, and I still find it hard to believe, that parents, teachers, and everyone there helps raise money for financial aid for the families who need it! We've had teachers who cared about our kids like family. Like every school, Prairie has issues and improvements can be made. But, I liked it right away because it teaches what we teach our kids at home…respect others and be a problem solver. THANK YOU to those who suggested we just visit and apply! PLEASE don't assume you can't afford it. That's what we thought, too and we are definitely not the only people of average income there. I hope more families in the area just go see Prairie and apply!
