Sophomore: There are many things that I like about Basis Shavano. First off, the school provides a wide variety of classes and extracurriculars students can choose from, enabling them to enroll into classes or clubs they actually like and giving them a chance to see what their future majors could be like. Not only that, the teachers at Basis are extremely helpful and nice, making the learning experience at Basis not bad at all. Did I mention the lunches? Definitely above-average. However, if there was one thing I could change about my experience at Basis would be the homework load. Basis is the type of school that challenges students in order to prepare them for college, and this is great, but since there isn't a cap on the amount of homework assigned per class, the upper-grade students receive much more work than necessary. Junior: Health Careers High School is by far the best high school anyone can attend here in San Antonio! Theres something here for everybody. No matter who you are or who you will be, you can learn a lot from Health Careers. With challenging courses and engaging teachers, it's impossible to be uninterested in learning. Not only that, the community is strong and supporting, as well as diverse. We have people of all kinds of backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, and race all welcoming and kind to one another. Even after the Pandemic, the sense of community and love still persisted and that is truly a blessing. Works Here: This school has many clubs the scholars can choose from and they are even given the opportunity to create new clubs they are interested in so long as they get a adult sponsor to assist them. Junior: Two-time Blue Ribbon school, recognized for outstanding academic achievement, Young Women's Leadership Academy is an exceptionally well school, providing students with skills for college readiness. From a student's perspective, attending this school throughout middle school was definitely something to get used to, from all-girls, to fast paced classes, it was safe to say that nobody liked being challenged in these ways. Entering as a class of 100 girls, we now remain at 42 in high school. Each and every one of us are enrolled in a variety of different classes, and I believe that this is extremely important in personal development to discover different pathways for college. Works Here: I am a proud teacher at SST. I have taught in other districts in the public domain, but SST is so much different. It is a family! The students who attend here are amazing. They inspire me to be a better educator. Our students have designed and created 3-D printed hands for children born with missing limbs. I am in awe of the innovative future leaders, doctors, cyber security warriors, computer programmers and other STEM professionals that attend here. These students are going to change the world! Alum: Clark high school have impacted the person I have become today. I grew as a person during the four years I have attended here. The faculty and staff got stricter as each year passes by. I appreciate the faculty and staff wanting for the students to get the best education that deserve. However, they didn’t give them enough freedom to express themselves. This school had a lot of electives that would help them in the future but it wasn’t enough for the students to get to know themselves even more. I remember during my senior year of high school, the faculty and staff were so strict to the point even the school student council itself couldn’t hold as much events as they could’ve. There were dressed up days held back by the faculty, and events that were disapproved by the staff such as powder puff. I think having a balance between academic life and extracurricular life is what the school needs to work on. They shouldn’t be as uptight to their students or their students will break loose.... Senior: My experience here at O'Connor High School has been like no other because this community is full of diverse people who come with brilliance and are ready to learn each and every single day. This school has given me multiple connections with students, faculty, and most importantly teachers, having these connections ensures my success here and beyond high school. I was able to be part of multiple clubs like, National Honor Society, Student Council, Science Honor Society, and many more. The resources available to the students including myself are extraordinary, but a school doesn't come without its difficulties. Senior: LEE high school had tons of programs and a wide selection of classes that allowed me to explore my different interests and take classes that were relevant to me. It really helped me find my niche and how I wanted to further pursue my education in college. My only complaint is that there wasn't a lot of support for looking for colleges and scholarships unless you actively sought it out which wouldn't normally be much of a problem. However, with all the students at the school and focusing on my grades throughout the year, it was easy to let college be pushed to the back of my mind. Senior: Attending Brennan High School was an opportunity that I will never regret taking up. The access to a well-taught education, a large campus, and resources that allow for educational growth is what makes Brennan High School a good school. I was able to converse and connect with a number of students and teachers, and even share memories that some may view as monumental or historic. Our athletic and sports shine their way throughout Brennan, with our glowing football and soccer teams. The only thing I wish Brennan could change would be the student's will to learn. Learning is something I idealize, and I know that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the will to learn has diminished for many students. Senior: What i like about Idea South Flores is that all teachers give a 100% to purse your education. You do feel welcome and encouraged to look for your college readiness. When needing extra help there is always peers and teachers by your side. Senior: My experience was unlike any normal students' experience. My freshman year I was introduced to the world of high school dance, The spirit program. From there, my eyes were opened to new opportunities. That program is what helped me expand on my personal skills like leading, public speaking and coming out of my shell overall. I held specific positions while on the team and this helped me improve in every aspect of myself. Being involved in my school's spirit program also helped me experience things that a regular student would never experience. The behind the scenes if you will. All the faculty is nice and understanding but there are a few that are very strict with rules. Senior: Harlan high school is a recently opened school, so it has a very clean a new campus. Harlan does a lot of things right when it comes to academics and sports. The teachers love to be with the students and are extremely helpful to all the students. The athletic coaches are even better, they push the athletes to be not only good athletes but great people.
