Theresa Primary School
#4 Best Public Elementary Schools in Jefferson County
- Indian River Central School District, NY
- Rating 4.5 out of 5 2 reviews
Works Here: Theresa Primary is a great school with a small town feel. There is a fairly equal mix of local children with Fort Drum children. Some Fort Drum parents find the distance the students need to travel by bus to be too far, yet most report that they are pleased with the school overall. ...The faculty/staff are dedicated and enthusiastic about academics, as well as the social emotional well being of their students. There is a welcoming culture of caring and genuine concern for the students throughout the building. Many of the faculty/staff attended the Indian River School District as K-12 students, of which Theresa Primary is a part of. There is a strong feeling of Warrior Pride...Students have 5 special area classes: Art, PE, Music, Library and Health. There are a few assemblies and extra "fun days" throughout the year. Such as: field trips, fire safety/community resource day, and the field day/BBQ. The PTO is very active in creating student centered activities/opportunities...

Junior: Sackets Harbor is a wonderful school! Its in a very small closely knit community. Everyone feels like a family. I'm lucky to have good relationships with my teachers and administrators. The teachers are excellent and very supportive. Everyone in the school wants to see you succeed and they will help you reach you're goals. Also the school is very small we have great academic programs. We often compete with other schools and out preform them. Sackets has a pretty good sports program. Most students are student athletes. We have limited financial support for our art and music programs however the school puts on a musical every year. If I could change anything I would add more classes to the school curriculum. Last year the school offered a few new classes and this year even more are being offered. Sackets doesn't have a lot of teachers to teach electives, however we try our best. I feel blessed to have grown up in such a wonderful place...

Parent: I adopted a five year old who had not yet begun school. When I got him less than a year ago, he didn't know his abc's or 123's. Yesterday he read a short story with a little help. The teachers are very involved with the students...

Sophomore: I used to attend South Jeff and i transferred here after some unfortunate circumstances. BHCS has changed my life. My teachers actually care about how i’m doing and it is very easy to get help when you need it. My only complaints are that they lack in safety and are somewhat redneck and many students are racist/homophobic. There was also an incident with administration preventing students in participating in a peaceful 17 minutes protest...
