Alum: Grand Rapids Christian High School is a fantastic choice for all those looking for a place where they can be challenged academically and athletically. The teachers are phenomenal, being both highly qualified and engaging, and the notion that "no student is left behind" resonates strongly with the teaching style at GRCHS. Additionally Every student has numerous resources available to them ensuring that they succeed. As a founder of an athletic club at the school, the athletics at GRCHS are outstanding. The complexes are spotless and every student-athlete has access to state-of-the-art training equipment with highly qualified coaches from well respected organizations such as the NFL. However, despite its excelling academics and athletics the student body lacks both in diversity and inclusivity, and it's not uncommon to see a lone student searching for a friend group to join. Freshman: I have had a great experience at Catholic Central. The student community made me feel welcome, and has truly been life changing. I can guarantee that no highschool in Michigan will better execute the high school experience. The teachers do a phenomenal job at interacting with the class and making learning fun and interesting. The students and parents do a great job at making the school as best as it can be. The facilities also are perefectly tailored to the needs of the students. From each closet, to the field where we dominate in football, each facility is made to perfectly support the amazing experience that recieve by coming here. While the price tag may be quite significant, you cannot truly put a price on the perfect education because it is priceless. The athletics were also so much fun to be a part of and I really enjoyed working with WC's coaches. Senior: CCHS is such a great place to learn! The teachers care about the students and take the time to get to know who they are and guide them in the process of growing as people. In addition, Calvin has great extracurriculars, from athletics and arts to robotics and Model UN. Their athletics teams frequently go far in regional competitions against larger schools and receive all-academic awards; their Robotics program made it to the State Finals in its first year of existence; the Band and Orchestra programs received straight A's in Festival; the Chorale received a nearly-perfect score and a perfect score (119/120 and 90/90); and several students have received first- or second-honors awards for excellence in representing their countries in Model UN. Junior: The diversity at the Potter's House is greatly recognized and celebrated. There are students from many countries around the world and as a student, you get to hear about the different experiences your peers have had. Most of the teachers are great and care about you. However, some of the policies of the school are a bit excessive compared to neighboring schools, and the administration claims it is so Potter's House is "unique" and "does things differently." The Christian aspect of the school is great, but it is difficult to share you opinions safely if they are different from the majority, because the school is able to find anything possibly offensive. A majority of students receive tuition support from donors, which is great, but it means the students body is expected to "show off" in a way with performances throughout the year, and making sure there is a diverse group of students in photos and advertisement. Works Here: I love seeing how this school is rapidly developing for current times for our current students and families. Many various updates have been made since 2015 such as: More variety of AP courses, option of online courses with Andrews University, expanding the music program, new security precautions for main entrance, new faculty and staff, and various academic trips for Elementary and High School. GRAA is very open to all students, Christians and non-Christians alike. And I was very happy to hear recently that our school has one of the lowest tuition rates compared to the other Christian private schools nearby. But my by-far favorite thing about being at this school is that the community and social circle that the students themselves create. They really are so kind and the bond that they make throughout each year, especially through mission trips, is so special. Really is a peaceful and fun-loving school. Senior: South Christian is a great place to go to high school! The education I have received there is fantastic, thanks to the knowledgeable teachers who care deeply about their students. There are lots of extracurricular opportunities, so it’s easy to get involved. The administration has also been taking initiative the last few year to improve student mental health, which I love! The only downside I’ve experienced at South has been that it can be a little difficult to find your place or feel like you fit in. However, the counseling department is working to see that change. Senior: My experience at Tri-unity Christian High School has been very positive overall. I became a member of the school in 2016, which was my freshman year. Immediately upon entering, I made several quality friendships that have lasted throughout my tenure as a high school student. Teachers and facilitators have been some of the most important people in my development as a person and my learning growth. Senior: Covenant Christian High School was an amazing experience. Not only did the education center on teaching us more about Christ and His work for us, but also it was a very enjoyable journey. Junior: It overall has a challenging curriculum that is very rigorous. If you take certain classes there will be no break. I would like to see more parent involvement but also a more diverse culture. It’s a small school and cliques form easily. If you aren’t in a group, you will probably be excluded for awhile. I wish there was more of an outreach. Overall the education is great! Parent: Our 3 children have gone to this school since preschool. What a loving, inclusive well run, and fun place. Our children have not only received a great education, but have been skillfully guided through conflict resolution (restorative justice), asking for what they need in a productive manner, and learning compassion towards all members and groups of our society. Senior: I sigh with sentimentality as I reflect on Potter's House and the ways in which my ten years here have shaped me. The name of my school comes from the verse Isaiah 64:8 which says "we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand." And I can't help but smile as I realize that God really has shaped me; I have developed a resilient confidence, better social skills, and appreciation for the wonder of this world. As a very diverse Christian school, The Potter's House has a very particular environment. My school centers on community which I love, but personally I've experienced an excessive amount of social problems among peers and I would have loved to see more academic organization, administrative responsibility, and encouragement to accept one another, especially at a place where diversity, and ethnic inclusion are highly boasted. Parent: My 5 year old son has been there for two years and he absolutely adores his teachers. I feel as though they are attentive, and are quite genuine about seeing the students thrive. He is always expanding his vocabulary with a new word every week. I use the curriculum they offer to quiz him on what he knows. He can read, spell most of his colors and count. Parent: Living in NW Grand Rapids there are many schooling choices. We knew as parents we wanted a Christian education for our children and West Side has been the perfect fit for all three! We have been able to experience West Side preschool - 8th grade and cannot say enough good things about it. The staff is outstanding. You will not find more loving, caring teacher's and staff anywhere else. They truly love their students and families. West Side has a great Educational Support Services program as we experienced this with our oldest K-8th grade. The program continues to grow and thrive. The leadership that the Head of School provides is outstanding and her love of Christ shows in all that she does. West Side has great parent involvement and a wonderful supporting community.... Middle School Student: They have really great teachers with great hard working students. However, most of the people are white and I would like to see a change in diversity.
