Parent: We have two children at Key School, in 2nd and 3rd grades, and we've been there for four years. It has been an incredible experience. We love the creative and individualized approach. The faculty are available to help problem solve any challenges our kids have had, and they have helped come up with creative and effective solutions. It is a warm and diverse community focused on empathy and the love of learning. The head of school and his leadership team have done a great job of leading through challenging times, and they are thoughtful and steady values-based decision makers. Parent: Severn school is a community of educators, staff, students and families who care about one another and want to see the young adults at this school excel. I’m a parent of a daughter heading to her 10th grade year and her freshman year was amazing. She was able to balance her school work, sports and extracurricular activities without any issues. As a matter of fact, it was hard getting her to leave school in the evenings. Severn offers a top notch learning environment that challenges your child but also prepares them for college. My daughter has the same advisor for the four years at Severn which gives her that comfort in knowing he’s there for her throughout any challenge. The head of the school, Doug Lagarde makes sure he communicates with the students and parents on a daily basis. He encourages the older student body to be there for the younger students. Freshman: I love my school! The academics are amazing and have many options for all levels. Personally, I take the highest classes I can, but people taking lower classes succeed as well. I love my teachers and believe they generally prepare me very well. The extracurriculars at this school are amazing. I am heavily involved in the music program, and if you're a musician, this is the right school for you. I would be shocked if someone found a school in the area with a better music program. The sports are also amazing. Every Spalding team performs so well and I'm so impressed with all of them. Overall, as someone with very high goals, I feel that Archbishop Spalding is adequately preparing me and giving me every opportunity I could ever want, to the point where it's hard to even chose what to do at our school. Senior: I’ve attended St. Mary’s all four years of high school after transferring from a public middle school, and overall I’ve loved it. I know that there are stereotypes and stigmas attached to the school, but as I’ve been here, practically all of them have been proven wrong. Academics and athletics are taken very seriously here, and many students receive scholarships and/or commit to colleges for athletics (if that’s what you’re looking for). Everyone I’ve met here is so nice, and school spirit is alive! Although it is a small school, it has many opportunities open to students and plenty of great things to put on a college resume like clubs, leadership, athletics, advanced classes, etc. My personal favorite has been campus ministry! It’s very inclusive and there’s tons of fun trips and retreats to be apart of. It’s a tight knit community, built around preparing you for college. If you are on the fence about going here: do it! Parent: Calvary Baptist Church Academy has been such an incredible blessing to our family. As we were looking at schools to send our son for Kindergarten, we were looking for a school that was affordable, but with quality education, and a Christian foundation. Calvary Baptist has been all of that for our son and more. This year of all years with this pandemic, we have been so impressed by how Calvary has handled the unusual times we live. Their staff worked hard to provide a safe environment with the health crisis but still forged ahead to stay open in-person despite enormous pressure. In the end, the school has successfully navigated the challenges of Covid-19 and provided our son with the kind of Kindergarten experience he never would have had. Senior: I enjoy all the preparations and encouragement for your future. I love how the teachers check up commonly on you to see how you are doing mentally, and reach out incase help is needed. I love how we can involve the word of God to each subject. Although I am not a fan of the schools food, but I love how careful they are if you have allergies or not. I love how much parents get involved with teachers and students, staying prepared of upcoming events. I enjoy how the students and teachers are able to connect, and share different ideas. I like how they send multiple emails of how you’re doing academically for the week. I find it very helpful to see where I am at and need to study or what area I need to work on. I love the volunteer opportunities they give to the students. I am not a huge fan of the uniform, but love when they are open to ideas from students for spirit week, or field trips. Alum: I graduated from SOTI in June of 2022(Female, no formal accommodations, highest level classes offered) I loved the faculty, however I only recommend sending your child here under certain conditions. If your child is a male with ADHD, do NOT send him here. Much of the administration and faculty favors girls significantly. I also do not recommend sending your child here if they are a member of the LGBTQ community or if they fall within a racial minority. I have seen multiple instances of mistreatment of students who fall within those guidelines from students and faculty alike. At one point in 7th grade, priests came into every class, speaking out against the LGBTQ community, specifically the trans community. There are many instances of bullying and harassment among students at SOTI especially from grades 2-8, especially among the females. Parent: We have 2 boys at SASA and I cannot say enough good things about this special community! We have one son with learning differences and have been to a number of private schools in the area over the years, including a specialized school to address learning differences. We have not found a more loving, nurturing, emotionally-attuned community of staff, teachers, and families. Overall, this is a great school with a small student to teacher ratio so that each student can be involved in the classroom and can get to know their classmates. Each student receives a well-rounded education with the basic core concepts as well as a computer, music, language, and library class.
