Whether it’s arts, theater, athletics, community service, debate, robotics, travel, Episcopal offers it all. This learning and growing happens within a supportive and nurturing community. Each of my children built special relationships with teachers who served as coaches, club leaders, chaperones on school sponsored trips or simply caring mentors. And the foundation for that community is chapel, a time when the students come together to reflect and learn. Although rooted in Christianity, the chapel program is welcoming and inclusive and gives the students the opportunity to share their beliefs with each other. Senior: I'm in my fourth year at Baldwin as a senior. I've had my ups and downs here, but I absolutely credit it for saving me from an unsafe middle school where my mental health was suffering greatly. I have felt safe in my identity, made some great friends, and flourished academically and in my activities. I've also met some of the kindest and most intelligent faculty members here. As a less fortunate student, I'd say my main issue has been entitlement among the student body. I notice white, straight, wealthy students complaining about superficial issues more often than those who are not, and more serious issues can often get drowned out. I do think there is a lot of stress among students, though, and that administration often drifts towards the side of overbearing parents - there is some listening they need to do in the coming years, on several topics. Senior: Attending Haverford was the best decision of my life. The very strong academic curriculum ensures that we as students are prepared for the top colleges and for the real-world in general. Haverford also prides itself on its community; the faculty strongly encourage student involvement, resulting in a tight-knit group that would do anything for each other. The teachers are amazing and endless bonds with students every year. Each teacher is always there when a student needs them to be, and they want to see each and every one of us succeed. Athletics are strong and there are many teams that have been nationally ranked within the past few years, but I'd like to see the administration focus more heavily on athletics as a whole in the near future.... Parent: Barrack is a warm, welcoming, wonderful school. The teachers and staff get to truly know your child and support them in every way possible. Their core values of kindness, community, honor and courage are weaved through everything they do. The academics are top-notch, and my kids have excellent study, writing, and executive functioning skills. They know how to be excellent students from the great coaching and preparation that their Barrack teachers provide. They also know how to advocate for themselves, and others. It may not be around the corner from us, but we feel the 40 minute bus ride is worth it (they made commuting to school easy with provided transportation and two late busses for after school activites). As parents, we did not grow up with a Jewish day school education, nor knew too much about it. Sophomore: My name is Caroline, and I am a current 10th grader at the Shipley School. I came to Shipley in 8th grade, where I was immediately welcomed with open arms. Everyone was so helpful, and genuinely willing to make sure that I was adjusting to the community. The past couple of years that I have spent at this school have been amazing. Shipley has allowed me to challenge myself academically, as I take several honors classes. I really enjoy the rigor of the classes, and the added challenge has helped me grow as a student and a person. All of my teachers are always willing to give any extra help I may need.I am also a member of 3 sports teams. I absolutely love playing Shipley sports due to the excellent coaching staff and the opportunity they give me to progress as an athlete. Parent: I have had 3 daughters enrolled - 2 graduates and a current student (Class of '24), and all three LOVED the teachers, Sacred Heart traditions and the diverse makeup of their class. They also received an education that not only prepared them for college, it prepared them to THRIVE in college. You won't find better academics - particularly in STEM areas as they have several teachers who came from industries and provide real-world usage for the mathematics, biology and physics that they are learning. Freshman: ND has already impressed both me and my family ever since coming this year. I came from a school that had limited academic option, and ND had been the opposite! The new STEM building and programs that are being implemented are quite impressive, and it shows how much they want to invest in STEM! They also put an emphasis on the arts. The laptops each student get are also extraordinarily helpful or keeping up to date. Freshmen have the most limited options in courses for their first years, but there are still many different courses you can take in language and math. All other classes have honors options, which you must test into or be recommended for. Coming to ND was the best choice of my life because it is a place where academics are extremely valued but are never put onto a student in a way that harms them. Senior: I like Merion Mercy Academy because its academics are rigorous and they push me to be the best that I can possibly be. Before I came to Merion Mercy, I was not super confident in myself as a student. I am now a rising senior and I am more confident than I have ever been! Merion Mercy has some of the best teachers that I have ever experienced throughout my entire academic career. Senior: My experience at West Catholic Preparatory High School was one of the best school experiences I've ever had. The diversity within the school itself was something I could never forget. The teachers, staff members, and students provide a family oriented environment that will make anybody new to the school feel as comfortable as possible. Although West Catholic is a school that I would recommend to any teenager in the Philadelphia area, it also has its flaws. One of the main flaws I think the school must work on is listening to what the students have to say. Sometimes, the adults in the school tend to brush off what the students have to say because of them being older and more wise. I do think the students know best in what's best for the school environment being as though we are the ones that make up the school. Parent: My son joined The Walden School in middle school. Coming from a smaller elementary school we were hoping he'd choose The Walden School over the public middle school due to its size and stellar reputation in the community. Luckily, he wanted to attend Walden after even the first visit! Everyone from the support staff to the classroom teachers have been kind, welcoming, and supportive. When I think of how we're trying to raise our son I feel confident The Walden School mirrors our values and morals. They instill virtues such as empathy and kindness all within a less pressure, but nonetheless solid and challenging academic program. This school has so many positives- a tight knit community, lovely staff, a focus on the individual needs of each child, and even yummy lunch choices. A bonus is we love seeing him happy at recess and on the playground still...something most middle schools do away with. Parent: We are so lucky to have found HCA! Lucas is in the Nursery 2 class currently. He has always been an extremely curious and active child. HCA has given him the opportunities flourish and grow so much in such a short amount of time. His language skills have improved immensely and he is learning so much from his ABC’s, to manners and numbers. Not only is he getting an amazing education, but he is forming lasting friendships. Alum: My experience at Saint Anastasia was amazing. I made incredible friends there that I will be with stay in contact with for the rest of my life. The school itself is one one the most extraordinary places with an amazing gym to participate in activities and it has really clean and beautiful classrooms. It has the best learning environment and the teachers are always looking to help out with anyone who is struggling. St. Annies also teaches students to have discipline and a dedication to school which is sometimes missing it other schools.
