Alum: I began attending Hackley in the sixth grade and remained there through the end of my high school career. With such great academic resources at your disposal, it's hard to not garner great college readiness. That being said, near-college level stress on children definitely creates a stress-inducing atmosphere. While this may be perceived as preparing kids for the real world, providing few mental health resources and being in the predominantly white, affluent bubble of Hackley does anything but that. Very grateful for the great opportunities the school afforded me both in and out of the classroom, particularly through travel, which was covered by my hefty financial aid. Parent: Sacred Heart has been a true home away from home for our girls. The school lives their mission every day and really pushes our young women to be independent thinkers who are kind and compassionate. The academic program is rigorous, but there is much support and my girls are really learning to advocate for themselves. It has been amazing to see how Sacred Heart has fostered the individual growth in each of our daughters. They work hard to help each girl find that thing that makes them special and they encourage the girls to embrace their interests while trying new things. My older daughter had an interest in the broadcast journalism program, so she participated in the introductory summer programs while in middle school. Now she is in high school and broadcast is one of her favorite classes. She has taken on leadership roles while sharpening her filming and editing skills. But best of all she is having fun doing it! Parent: Niche targets the big schools but the School of the Holy Child is positively as good as every other private school. My daughter scored higher than her other relatives that went to Fordham, Hackley, Marymount, and Regis. More importantly, she has zero fear of public speaking, is active in the community and so loving. In this selfish world, there is no better school for promoting positive Catholic values. Sophomore: First of all, i’d like to admit the effort teachers put into us. Everyone is super respectful and understandable, kind and opened towards you. Also, my friends from this school are the ones i love the most and get along with. The international community helped me to gain experience about people’s attitude depending on the culture and personal experience. This is the most important skill i’ve learned in EF. To understand and treat people well. The only thing i’d change here is passes to New York for everyone, even 10th graders. Senior: I felt that the community at Leffell was very tight-knit and it was almost like a family. The events there were always fun and were created to strengthen the bonds between everyone who attended/worked at school. However, that being said of course some things could be improved. All 3 of my kids went to this school from the ground up, my oldest daughter graduated in 2020, got a scholarship to study biochemistry at a top university. All 3 are not just perfectly bilingual plus some decent Spanish & French but put me to shame in math and sciences (I went to a regular US high school). This school shines even among top private NYSAIS schools for it's math & sciences. Parent: I live in a blue ribbon public school district, but decided to send my children to Kennedy for the specialized attention and holistic approach they take towards not only education, but personal growth of the student as well. My daughter and son could not be more different in interests and personalities. My daughter is outgoing, skilled in science and math and enjoys playing sports, while my son tends to be more quiet and reserved, excelling in arts and humanities. We had the pleasure of watching them build on their interests and blossom during their time at Kennedy in very different ways. Even though their paths were quite different, they both made excellent friends, strengthened healthy core values, and went on to be accepted at some of the most prestigious universities on the East coast thanks to the rigorous academics they became accustomed to at Kennedy. Alum: Stepinac is a great school that prides itself on preparing its students for their college and career lives. They provide their students with a great deal of resources such as online platforms and office hours to help them develop theory and experience in their areas of study. However, this can be both a gift and a curse because the students in the Honors Academy often feel very overworked due to the lack of flexibility in terms of course selection. As a member of the Engineering Academy, I can attest that I dealt with a great deal of stress because of the amount of homework given from the mandatory courses I had to taken as part of the Engineering Academy curriculum. They have flourished both as learners and as human beings in their ability to think critically, problem solve and self-reflect. The brilliant melding of Montessori and IB and the devoted and skilled faculty at the school creates the perfect school for the 21st century. Middle School Student: Let me explain my star ratings below. IHM has outstanding academics with grades through the roof, honors programs, and engaging classes. 5 stars. The teachers as well are amazing, and give engaging classes for every level. They will also always be open for talking, or have a quiet room for extra studying or extra work. Again, 5 stars. There are a ton of clubs at IHM, like drama club, music lessons, boy and girl scouting, and art club. On an athletic front, we have baseball, softball, soccer, cheerleading, and many more. Academically, there are two different afterschool math programs (4th-5th and 6th-8th grades), a lunchtime book club, and coding club. Another 5 star rating. For culture, I can attest that, since IHM is such a small school, each student gets individual attention and help (if needed) from teachers.
