Senior: I came to CK during the pandemic. It obviously was not a traditional experience, however, comparatively, the school's response to the pandemic in ensuring the best possible education was provided to their students was definitely exceptional. With the amazingly breathtaking campus, CK has the facilities and resources like no other high school that students have the full advantage of utilizing. Students had the opportunity to return to campus for in-person learning a lot sooner the other schools due to the spacing available. Senior: Roeper's claim that it is "more than a school" may sound like typical school propaganda, but it's largely true. While its programs in Music and Sports are mediocre (mostly due to the fact that there are only 50 kids per grade), the teachers are incredible and students are generally very smart and kind. I have three independent studies this year, in which I study fractal geometry and animal intelligence and compose jazz tunes. The school has a social justice commitment that can at times seem a bit too much, but I ultimately really appreciate the school's bias towards fact over non-partisanship. Parent: As a parent, the most important factor is your child feeling like he matters, their goals matter, and that teachers/counselors are invested in both. Brother Rice does this in spades. While things like facilities (which they improve every summer), outstanding college prep academics, and parent involvement help make this school culture great, it is the opportunities to thrive, find new interests, create/join as many clubs as they like, be part of many different circles, and to feel like their teachers care about them that sets Brother Rice apart. Brother Rice goes deep with State Championships in several sports, but the rumor that only sports kids will thrive here is false. Senior: Coming into my freshman year, I was unsure of what to expect at a small catholic school. I doubted I would make good friends as I had in middle school, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Here at St. Mary's, I have found a tight-knit group of friends. Immediately coming into my first day on campus I was told about the St. Mary's brotherhood and how this school is special compared to other schools. St. Mary's has a wonderful campus. Here, we have our chapel, a grotto, and even an ice rink on campus. In addition, St. Mary's is also located on Orchard Lake, where our crew team rows, sometimes even in the morning before school starts. One unique thing St. Mary's has is that the buildings in which we have our classes are spread out on campus so we can walk outside between classes and get some fresh air. Freshman: I absolutely love Academy of the Sacred Heart! It is a small community and it offers so many opportunities for students to volunteer in the community. We take annual mission trips across the world that exposes us the many people, cultures and traditions. I love the block schedule of classes. It is preparing me for college. The school offers a great way of how technology is integrated into our curriculum. Our teachers care about our education and they ensure that we get the most out of their classes. They make themselves available to all students. I would love for the school to be exposed to a more diverse student population and I believe that the school is striving towards that goal. There are many opportunities that we serve in the community by participating in our bi-weekly service appointments. I have had the opportunity to work in soup kitchens where I am feeding the hungry. Senior: The Shrine community is unlike any other. Since the school is PreK through 12th grade, many of the older students are able to create bonds with the younger children. The facilities are not the greatest, but it is because the school has been around for many years, so the facilities are historical to the school's culture. Parent: We have been so blessed that our kids have been able to go to Oakland Christian School! We have been there for 12 years so have been around awhile. We love the small class sizes, the caring teachers, the challenging curriculum, the many activities offered, and especially the Christ centered focus. We have 3 boys so had to have a school that also offered sports. They offer many different sports and are actually pretty competitive. Our oldest graduated from OCS last year and was very well prepared for college. He was prepared both academically and spiritually. You can get good academics at many different schools, but the Christ centered focus taught at Oakland Christian is tough to beat. Senior: Bethany Christian School has a great environment for kids of all ages. It is a K-12 school, with teachers who care about every student. Senior: Bishop Foley was an experience of a life time! I am about to graduate and I have truly loved and valued my time as a Venture. From Friday night football games, to after school clubs, to dedicated teachers, you are getting a truly unique experience in Bishop Foley Catholic! My favorite part about the Foley family was how close I became with my classmates and teachers over the course of 4 years. I truly believe that I would not get this at any other high school. Now why did I give this 4 stars instead of 5 stars? That's due to the somewhat lack of opportunities that a bigger school could offer instead. For example, I am a senior now and I feel like I ran out of AP classes to take by my senior year, where this would not be a problem at a larger school. Senior: I have attended Parkway Christian since I was a Freshman in high school. They made the transition to a new school way easier by having a new student orientation where current students went to it and go to know you. This helped because I went into high school knowing a few kids. I also really enjoy the small class sizes because the teachers can pay closer attention to you and your needs. Also, they keep Christianity at a forefront and tie it into our everyday lives. They offer a variety of honors and AP classes. The A.P. classes offered are great- the teachers prepare students very well for the A.P. Exams, which helped many of us receive college credit. Parent: We are new to HF this year (South Campus) and I can't express how humble, kind, and down to earth this community is. We have observed other local private schools that have a reputation of children/families who love to flaunt, compare/compete, and think they are better than everyone else. I can attest that the environment this school encourages is not even close to that which is very much displayed as a community. They are selective in their admission process which is fantastic.
