Middle School Student: I am about to complete my 11th year at DIS. The people here are simply wonderful! The teachers care deeply for their students, the school is open to new ideas (they let girls wear comfortable shoes when they began a campaign against the uncomfortable expensive ones all the other schools require), the cafeteria food is healthy and the academics are amazing! I must however state that the upper campus (5th grade to 12th) has no gym so they often rent UTD or use Sportsplex. Parent: The teachers are skilled in dealing with multiple styles of learning (kinesthetic, verbal, and visual) often integrating all three styles seamlessly throughout the day during any given lesson, based on the needs of the child. I am not worried that my youngest child with a summer birthday should be held back a year. Every student receives individualized plans, adjustments are made to assist the child where areas of growth are accelerating them in subjects where they show strength. All of the teachers receive training in the grades above them and they introduce advanced work if it is needed. As evidenced by the many accolades, Alcuin teachers are clearly in the top of their field. Many are not only internationally certified but also continue to receive training from top educators and thinkers of our generation. Senior: Cambridge is very unlike any typical school, public or private. The immediate difference of Cambridge is that it is drastically small compared to any other school that comes to mind, with the student count averaging around 110 students each year. They put Christ on the forefront of the curriculum and try to incorporate how to use the faith in each subject. The academics are very rigorous but with a small student count there is more one-on-one time between the teachers and students. During my freshmen year, I found the campus to be rather small, but it was still nice despite the size; however, during my sophomore year, we had a sudden change of campus because of a tornado hitting the school, and the campus is now inside of a Sunday school, and is a downgrade of what it used to be. The students are overall good people, with the exceptions of a few as typical in all student bases. Senior: Though this school is small, if that what's you're looking for it's great! Very competitive environment and lots of availability for one-on-one time between students and teachers. The involvement of the high school students with the lower school students is so unique to Lakehill. This school makes it possible to do every thing you could possibly want to do. I am a leading member of 3 clubs, in student government, do both the musical and the play, and manage a 3.97 GPA while also being a full-time, out-of-school athlete with practice 7 days a week. If you want to do it all, Lakehill is the place to do it, but the environment is definitely better for those focused on and driven towards successful academics. Senior: Attending Bishop Lynch was an amazing experience for me. I went here thinking I wouldn't make new friends since all my old ones went to different high schools. Now I've made long lasting relationships with my friends. The education here at Bishop Lynch is great and its dual enrollment with Eastfield college will allow me to graduate with around 40-60 hours of college credit. All of my teachers have been amazing and they really do care about you. The environment they provide in the classroom is really nice, and to me they felt like another friend. Senior: FBA is truly a God center school, the is school is more than prestigious. Its a place you dont want to leave, many students from formal years have return to work at FBA. Alum: The Covenant School cultivates a love of learning through their amazing staff and excellent curriculum. As a recent alum I can attest to the spiritual growth that Covenant offered me. The teachers have taught me more than I can ever express. Covenant inspires the students to take ahold of their education and make it their own. They do this by giving students AP options, broad essay prompts, and many fine art credit classes. Covenant also allows students to participate in many extracurricular activities. Parent: My son has attended NDAA since he was 4. He's now in 1st Grade and both his teachers and Teacher Aide have been very nurturing, providing us with positive feedback, love, and support. He loves his school, his teachers, and his friends. I love that they have daily Bible classes with worship, which is my primary reason for why he attends a private Christian school. Academically, I am also very pleased. He is an avid reader, loves writing, is very creative, and excels in math. Senior: I have been at Heritage for 13 years. Started in Kindergarten where I learned to read and write and receive Jesus has my Lord and Savior. Even through our school is small, I have been a part of the Scream Team and Dazzlers (pep team and twirling baton team in elementary), ASL for 4years, theater for 4 years (which includes One Act Plays and High School Musicals), cheerleader for 2 years, gone on a winter Mission trip to Missions, Texas 3 years, football and basketball Trainer for 4 years. And I have received the Christian Student of the Year Award. Our school gives us an opportunity to experience different activities. We are also an College Prep school. The standards are high and the teachers make sure we are accountable to the College Prep standards. I love being at Heritage and experience I have had there. Senior: I loved how small my school is so everyone knows each other, and it feels like a family. I also like how the administration is always there to help you with any problems you have. They prioritize your needs, and their doors are always open to listen to your situation, or provide advice and solutions. It is also generally a very positive atmosphere, with constant activities and school programs to bring more excitement to the learning. Even within the classroom, many teachers have art or creative writing assignments to make the work more enjoyable to complete. They also try to keep the workload manageable by limiting the amount of tests per week. I do think the school would be improved if they had more clubs and extracurricular options, as well as a better gym program.
