Senior: I came to CK during the pandemic. It obviously was not a traditional experience, however, comparatively, the school's response to the pandemic in ensuring the best possible education was provided to their students was definitely exceptional. With the amazingly breathtaking campus, CK has the facilities and resources like no other high school that students have the full advantage of utilizing. Students had the opportunity to return to campus for in-person learning a lot sooner the other schools due to the spacing available. Junior: Greenhills is a diverse, tight knit community that has really helped me become more confident in my artistic abilities, writing, and performance overall. It's a really small school which makes it great for individualized learning and opportunities. This is only further enhanced by the array of diverse voices being heard. The literary classes in particular showcase some amazing books on diversity and inclusion. My main gripe with the school is its lack of diverse education resources- it isn't great at providing aid for neurodivergent kids. Some teachers also don't properly use the homework website and neglect updating or even showing grades for each academic term. Personally, the small student body has helped me grow to be a more confident individually but, it does get a bit boring and monotonous to just see the same people everyday. Middle School Student: This is my second year in Liggett and I have had an amazing time. With all the great people I’ve met. The teachers are really nice. You will always find help when you need it. There are many activities to do outside of school as well. This goes along with sports, robotics, theater/acting and all kinds of other enjoyable events offered here. Lunch is provided each and everyday and the food is great. Learning is not rushed so you can be sure to understand everything that you are taught. There are several different electives to choose from. Also, Liggett includes the whole family. They host events that anybody can join in on. Sometimes there are events to introduce new families. There has been auctions, fundraisers, and fun events hosted by the school to raise money. Either way you should always know that you will have a great time at Liggett. Go Knights!... Parent: After a few months of online schooling and many tears, we were desperate to find an in-person alternative to the anxiety inducing situation we were in. Our 9 year old son and almost 5 year old daughter have been attending the lower school since January and we are extremely pleased and feel so fortunate to have landed there. Our sensitive son’s anxiety level has been lowered significantly, and he really responds to the learning style there. He is thrilled to be learning cursive and German and knitting, and also seems to really appreciate the extra outdoor time and learning about nature and Native American stories in addition to his times tables and long division. Our nearly 5 year old daughter’s imagination is put to great use every day and she has also become quite the little finger knitter! The environment is nurturing and thoughtful. Parent: As a parent, the most important factor is your child feeling like he matters, their goals matter, and that teachers/counselors are invested in both. Brother Rice does this in spades. Senior: Coming into my freshman year, I was unsure of what to expect at a small catholic school. I doubted I would make good friends as I had in middle school, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Here at St. Mary's, I have found a tight-knit group of friends. Immediately coming into my first day on campus I was told about the St. Mary's brotherhood and how this school is special compared to other schools. St. Mary's has a wonderful campus. Here, we have our chapel, a grotto, and even an ice rink on campus. In addition, St. Mary's is also located on Orchard Lake, where our crew team rows, sometimes even in the morning before school starts. One unique thing St. Mary's has is that the buildings in which we have our classes are spread out on campus so we can walk outside between classes and get some fresh air. Senior: I love Mercy! I am currently a Senior in the graduating class of 2022. I can't imagine having made a difference choice 4 years ago. I have great friends, feel extremely supported by the staff and teachers, and enjoy al of the activities and clubs I am in. Mercy creates the schedules so that student's can take whatever classes they choose, and most clubs are student run and created. Students have a huge leadership role within the school, and the sense of community is strong. It is not hard to find your group of people. There are classes for any student, from AP science and math classes to Directing and Acting classes. Students find their place within the school easily. The theatre department is amazing and nearly completely student run. The academic support for students is amazing as well. Junior: Been going here for 5 years now, I started in the academy as a young kid not knowing anybody and felt very intimidated by the huge building I had just set foot into. Within the first 20 minutes at orientation I had met some of my best friends. This school is fantastic but its the luck of the draw when it comes to teachers and how you'll be prepared. Many teachers really care and it shows but some could care less and blow you off. Overall this school offers so much and it has been awesome going into all the co-curriculars as someone new. Freshman: I absolutely love Academy of the Sacred Heart! It is a small community and it offers so many opportunities for students to volunteer in the community. We take annual mission trips across the world that exposes us the many people, cultures and traditions. I love the block schedule of classes. It is preparing me for college. The school offers a great way of how technology is integrated into our curriculum. Our teachers care about our education and they ensure that we get the most out of their classes. They make themselves available to all students. I would love for the school to be exposed to a more diverse student population and I believe that the school is striving towards that goal. Alum: Being a student in a small Catholic based parochial school came with many blessings. There were only 17 graduates in my senior class. The small class sizes make you a part of a special family. The bond that you have with the teachers is very special because they, too, become your family. Another benefit of Lake Michigan Catholic schools is that we get to experience high school with a variety of foreign exchange students. The time we spent together was so beneficial and rewarding as we accepted them into our family. The students are all very involved in extracurricular activities such as sports, service organizations, and helping out within the community whenever and wherever there is a need. We also benefitted from our strong faith based education. We had 100% college acceptance rate and the 17 of us earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in academic add athletic scholarships to our respective colleges.
