Parent: Our children moved from a local State school to BISB three years ago. From day one the school has provided a first class academic and social education, helping children become well rounded members of the community. The curriculum is varied, thought-provoking, interesting, and challenges and encourages the children to be creative and ambitious. The teaching staff are very attentive to each individual child’s learning capabilities and needs, and the small class sizes are a definite advantage. Alum: I went to Newton for 8 years and truly loved it. I made my greatest friends for life from the small and tight-knit community. A highlight for me personally were the sports teams because I played 3 seasons and really enjoyed the competitive spirit, yet loving family energy of the teams. The academics were rigorous from day one and now as a college student I am prepared and confident, especially in writing and history. My teachers, too many to name, turned out to be some of the most transformative people in my teenage years and I learned so much from them. The NCDS traditions - conge, gouter, retreats - are unlike any other and I will cherish them forever. I love that place and the people from the bottom of my heart and I attribute so much of my growth as an individual academically, athletically, and spiritually to Newton. Parent: The admistration is highly productive. They did not lose a day of teaching in the pendemic. They has no expereince for the online teaching before the covid hited us. Right after the spring break, online lessons were started as a half day program on Monday. On Wednesday, they switched to a whole day class to fully engage students. They never missed the summer camp and even open the campus much earlier than most other schools still did not know how to open their campus. It truely respect people's choice & rights. Never force anyone to be vacinnated. They teach kids critical thinking by allow them to listen to all perspectives instead of teaching kids to one direction which would altimatly destoy the country. Teachers are really caring about kids and would approach parents regarding how to help the kids become better. Not the fake love elsewhere. Great school with true loves, caring and common sense. Senior: I am a current Newman School Senior and I have loved being apart of this community! It really does feel like family. Everyone from the students to the teachers really do want to see us succeed. The school offers several clubs and creates such an easy space to start your own and add to the benefit of the community. Being located right in the city is another major bonus. We have easy access to several forms of transportation and when the weather is nice, often times students go and have lunch outside. Sometimes teachers take us outside for class too which is always nice. The school is also very flexible with students schedules who have high demand extra curricular activities outside of school. Which is nice for students who would otherwise only have the option of home school and don't necessarily want to do that. Alum: Going to BC High was easily one of the best decisions I/my parents have ever made. It is truly a school that goes above and beyond, with an unbreakable sense of community and brotherhood. Between the incredible teachers that truly care and the excellent guidance department, the opportunities are endless if you take advantage of them. BC High has made me a more well-rounded student and person, and I do not know where I would be today without this school. The friendships you make at this school will be some of the best and most long-lasting ones you will ever make, even through college and beyond. The location and commute on the T and interaction/proximity to the city makes every student a responsible, independent, and, well-adjusted member of society way before they are expected to be. Parent: Best decision we could have made. Real family/community environment. Younger kids have older mentors. As a 7th grader, he is already learning about Physics & engineering. He says these classes are the best ever. Math, Science, Technology classes are so hands-on! Additionally, they learn the reason for math like Algebra. Most schools teach subjects as unrelated silos of info. At the Meridian, the subjects are INTEGRATED. The school customizes learning (e.g., very small advanced Spanish class or coding class). Languages are 1 of 3 pillars of learning, so learning a foreign language is paramount every year. No loud bells going off, teachers are great, & students are able to be totally involved in their learning. They don't need an external reward system like grades. They want to learn & do their best. One could tell that lots of thought, dedication and effort goes into preparing and delivering them, always with phenomenal enthusiasm and energy level. Parents are kept in loop with timely Infomails that describe the lessons and assignments step-by-step. In addition, there are classroom-specific Newsletters that go out with precision and punctuality every week. GISB is more than a school. Senior: The academics are excellent, at least if you're an honors/advanced/AP student. In CP classes, students often don't care about grades and are very distracting and immature. Most teachers are great people and will spend extra time helping you if needed. Athletics are a big part of life here at AC, unfortunately boys sports get way more spectators than girls. Nearly all students go to the boys football/hockey/basketball/baseball games which are very fun, lots of school spirit. But we don't have a track, a real football field, or a very big gym. The social scene is comprised of "friend groups." Make good friends freshman year and stick with them. People go out often after school together and on the weekends. There's mixing between grades and boys/girls for friends. The Catholic culture here is negligible. Expect daily prayers, mandatory Mass, etc. but not much in terms of genuine faith. Junior: Cristo Rey Boston is like no other school. They provide me with hands-on business experience that'll help me stand out when applying to colleges and beyond. Each year I'm met with new sets of challenges that test my time management and prioritization skills; this has allowed me to focus on the areas I can do better on and further succeed in my classes. There is a fair amount of sports and clubs present for every type of student, ranging from track and field to the year book committee. Freshman: My experience at Cathedral has been wonderful. I've got to meet many different people with different interesting races. I also got to learn many different culturistic dances throughout the many years I've been there. The sports and academics there are excellent. I've played basketball and their teams are absolutely outstanding. They have made it to the state division for the last 5 years. The teachers here are caring and help the students that are struggling. They know how to make us have fun while giving us a lesson on the topic that we're learning about. The clubs here at Cathedral mainly focus on academics like E.L.A. They also provide a study hall for all students after school until 6. I still sense the values I learned there as a child, and which I think are still at the heart of this school, ones I still cherish: kindness, openness, a love for learning and excellence, an appreciation of art, music, and crafts, enthusiasm for sports and the outdoors, a warm interest in the diverse traditions of humanity. I went to Choate and to Harvard, and then to graduate schools in the U.S. and in Europe, and I still look back to Shady Hill as probably the best school I ever attended in many ways. The day I stepped into Atrium I knew this was what we were looking for. The way they welcomed my son and even me in this community is something I will never forget. It’s extraordinary how teachers, administrators, and literary all the parents from all the grades welcomed our family. I have never seen such a loving,accepting and warm community. The head of school is unlike any person you will meet, he understands the power of words and follows it with actions. Marshall is very attentive to each family. Parent: We love Lesley Ellis! Our kids are currently in 7th and 4th grade and have both been there since preschool. With small class sizes and a team-teaching approach, each student is appropriately challenged. Academic expectations are high, but students are well-supported and never feel stressed or unprepared. The teachers are very well-qualified and bring a depth of experience and creativity to their teaching that makes learning fun.
