Freshman: I like the welcoming environment and sense of belonging from going to this school. Loomis’s emphasis on the Best Self and Common Good is present throughout the school‘s culture and social life, and hence the school is very open and accepting. The diversity at the school made me feel welcome and accepted, and Loomis’s programs to raise awareness for groups like the LGBTQ+ community were reaffirming and a nice action for National Coming Out Day. The school’s academic programs are beneficially challenging as well, with flexibility in advancing in courses such that students are able to take sufficiently challenging courses. The music, arts and after school activities all have an abundance of applicable resources. Senior: Kingswood Oxford or KO is a wonderful school with awesome teachers who connect well with students. Classes are often smaller than 15 students which allows teachers to truly connect with each of the students and understand them and their learning styles more. The school helps in many aspects of life helping students as they grow in both age and their academic pursuits. Many students from KO are great public speakers and debaters despite shyness. Others with more artistic talents have become amazing artists, and those who are thoroughly interested in athletics have been committed to colleges as early as the beginning of their junior years. The community, food, academics, teachers, programs, and athletics are great and very fun. Everyone learns how to work hard but still enjoy themselves during the school year and personally it has been an amazing experience. Parent: I'm so thankful that my son has had the opportunity to attend this wonderful school! He moved to the Unites States from Mexico in the middle of the pandemic- needless to say, we were a little nervous about the transition. At Watkinson both the teachers and students have been incredibly welcoming and have made my son feel at home. There's tremendous support for each and every student, ensuring success for everyone, no matter what their strengths and challenges. The LSP program helps students learn strategies to improve academically. The Creative Arts Program is fabulous! Sophomore: Northwest Catholic High School has a great community surrounded by different types of people that make you feel accepted. The academics are very competitive. The teachers and the curriculum prepares students for life beyond high school, whether that includes college or a career path. Northwest Catholic has 20+ clubs and activities, so anyone who goes there can find multiple activities that they are interested in. The school also has many sports in competitive conferences, and students, staff and alumni come to a lot of the games to show their support for the teams. As a student here, I have never met anyone who has felt unsafe in the school’s environment. Northwest Catholic High School has a very inclusive environment that has a close community. Many students who went to Northwest school have returned to teach, send their kids, or have come back to stay in touch with their fellow classmates. Junior: Junior at East Catholic. Had a lot of issues with the school involving the administration, but President Sean Brennan has done an amazing job fixing the place up! He’s created a much more comfortable environment for students of color, and put in a clear effort to fix the major flaws of the school. Many of the issues present in my freshman year are gone now. Parent: These teachers care deeply! They get involved when students misbehave or mistreat one another. They intervene and even pray with the students. My son has been attending from Kindergarten to 3rd grade and will continue through to 12th grade. The pledge of allegiance is said every morning. Respect for all people is taught and modeled. Homework is kept to a minimum to prioritize family time. While my son is only in 3rd grade, I've still seen academic rigor proportional to the grade. Some students were reading independently in 1st grade and others had extra reading sessions with a volunteer! There is music, art, and chapel weekly. There is a student band that leads worship! My son sometimes tells me when students misbehaved and caused his team to lose during PE. In each story, I've found the teacher response to be refreshingly appropriate and personal. Alum: What I liked about Emmanuel Christian Academy is that they had AP courses available to prepare you for college. I really don’t have a problem with anything at Emmanuel, but I will say that this school is only for those who want there children to have a solid Christian based education. Parent: Our family joined the Renbrook community summer of 2020. Over the last two years we have been impressed by their thoughtful planning to provide the happiest and safest learning environment possible throughout the pandemic. I appreciate how much PE, library, STEAM, foreign language, music, and art are prioritized in the curriculum to round out the academic experience. Students also have the opportunity to participate in sports and a variety of other after school activities for added enrichment. The school is organized and communicative. We receive weekly school and teacher newsletters and we can feel engaged in classroom learning with the Homeroom app. The faculty and staff are devoted to their students' love of learning. For a Pre-K to Grade 8 school, I am amazed by the level of alumni engagement. It is what you would typically see at the high school/college level. Parent: My 3 sons all attend St. John Paul II School in Middletown. I'll be very honest; the relief I have felt over the last two years has been immeasurable. The school has always been wonderful with a strong, tight community of families, parents, educators and administrators. Here, everyone is always on the same page...trying to do right by the kids. However, after the last two years with Covid, quarantines and distance learning, I have fallen in love with the school again and again. The teachers pivoted, over a weekend, into distance learning. It was challenging for all of us, but the teachers and admin were always on the other side working with us to do the best for our kids. I am so grateful for the care and education my sons are receiving. The school is safe, driven by their mission and they nurture our children with compassion, care and a sense of obligation. Parent: This is our seventh year at Corpus Christi School and we are thankful for the opportunities our children are given to grow and develop into caring, empathetic, and well-rounded individuals. The families we have met through CCS have become like family and we feel lucky to call them our friends. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the adminstation and teachers have gone above and beyond to be sure that our children continue to learn, all the while making their health and safety a priority. Our kids love the after school program, where they get to engage in a variety of supervised activities with friends and get their homework done. Over the past couple of years, the number of extra curricular activities (of all sorts) has increased drastically. Parent: Our son transitioned to STMS from a public elementary school experience, starting there in 6th grade and is currently a rising 8th grader. His transition was seamless socially and academically. This is the best educational decision we have made to prepare him for long-term academic competencies, overall social-emotional well-being, and spiritual grounding. STMS continues to provide academic rigor, mutual respect amongst staff, students, and families. There will always be exceptions, where a staff person or an experience may result in lower than expected outcomes, but it is fair to say that this school and the community of STMS create an environment of belonging in which children thrive. That is the norm we have observed and experienced. Diversity is a work in progress, probably due to cost.
