Parent: We chose Bryn Mawr to start our daughter’s educational journey, and having almost completed her kindergarten year, I can say with wholehearted enthusiasm that BMS is a special place. Girls can be girls. They can love unicorns and also build robots. Our daughter last week tromped in waders through the stream on campus with and found a salamander! She has told us about the values she has been learning in the values curriculum - that she can do hard things, can be anything, and can choose to live fearlessly and act with kindness. There is an almost summer camp-like set of traditions and annual events that make the school feel cozy. The teachers bring learning to life through fun dances, songs and hysterical characters/skits! The 5th graders help younger students get out of their cars at drop-off with a cheerful “good morning” and “have a great day” and a thumbs up! Senior: Over the course of my 7 years at Gilman, I have fallen in love with the community I became apart of. Like any school, Gilman certainly has its flaws, but I would say the pros outnumber the cons 100 to 1. The teachers in both the middle and upper school are extremely passionate, hardworking, and caring people. The course load is certainly heavy at times, but if you manage your time properly and make sure to seek help from teachers, it is easy to be successful. Regarding social life, there is a group for everyone. Over time, you'll not only find yourself surrounded by a loyal group of immediate friends, but you can have a relationship with nearly everyone in the grade. In my personal opinion being on a sports team, club, or class is just like having a separate friend group. Alum: My exchange year experience in St. Timothy’s school was excellent. I’m from Spain and I spent my sophomore year as a boarder. I had never spent a year away from home and I was terrified at first but after only a month this school felt like a new home to me and I made friends that are like family. The girls were very welcoming and I made friends from all over the world. Right now after two years I still keep in touch with them, I’ve recently come to Maryland to visit my best friend from school. One of the best things about St. Tim’s are the teachers, I could always count on them for an extra explanation which made adapting to the IB program easy. After some time I even switched to harder classes! St. Tim’s allowed me to grow as a person, I went from being very shy to being confident and independent. Alum: I attended Park School for 13 years (Kindergarten-12th Grade) and I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. I received a phenomenal education which prepared me well for college and taught me core values of advocating for myself, thinking outside the box, challenging my mind and more! The teachers want nothing more than for their students to succeed which is made possible by their incredible teaching as well as other recourses Park offers such as tutoring, counseling, and more! I honestly have nothing bad to say about Park School and after 13 years, I believe that speaks for itself. Senior: I came to FSB as a freshman in 2019, and even throughout the COVID pandemic, I loved my time there. The other students were always friendly, which I appreciated immensely, especially as I transitioned from a middle school where I did not fit in at all. I found several groups, formed either organically/randomly or by shared extracurriculars, that I felt entirely at ease with. The teachers were incredibly supportive. I am graduating with a stronger enthusiasm for subjects like English that I liked as a freshman, and a newfound love for math and music. While I was often stressed out by assignments or exams, when I look back that stress pales in comparison to how much I enjoyed my classes, rehearsals (I loved my time in chorus and the musicals), and friendships. Freshman: I love my school! The academics are amazing and have many options for all levels. Personally, I take the highest classes I can, but people taking lower classes succeed as well. I love my teachers and believe they generally prepare me very well. The extracurriculars at this school are amazing. I am heavily involved in the music program, and if you're a musician, this is the right school for you. I would be shocked if someone found a school in the area with a better music program. The sports are also amazing. Every Spalding team performs so well and I'm so impressed with all of them. Overall, as someone with very high goals, I feel that Archbishop Spalding is adequately preparing me and giving me every opportunity I could ever want, to the point where it's hard to even chose what to do at our school. Parent: Calvary Baptist Church Academy has been such an incredible blessing to our family. As we were looking at schools to send our son for Kindergarten, we were looking for a school that was affordable, but with quality education, and a Christian foundation. Calvary Baptist has been all of that for our son and more. This year of all years with this pandemic, we have been so impressed by how Calvary has handled the unusual times we live. Their staff worked hard to provide a safe environment with the health crisis but still forged ahead to stay open in-person despite enormous pressure.
