Senior: I came to Brownell Talbot at the beginning of my eighth grade year after some negative experiences at my old school, and the entire community was so welcoming towards me. Going to this school has taught me a lot about character, and what it means to make a positive impact in your community. The administration is kind, the teachers are helpful, and the student body is so diverse that you're sure to find your niche somewhere. I want to give special thanks to the Brownell Talbot theatre department, where I've been given so many incredible opportunities to lead and further develop my craft. Senior: I might love prep too much. I know others at prep think the events and culture can be lame, but I am bought in. It might have taken a while to be bought in. This could be because my freshman year was the Covid year. I remember my brothers would be waiting in the car the moment the bell rang to get home as fast as possible. Now as a Senior I will find myself still at prep an hour after school for no particular reason. Although there are many specific reasons to stay after school other than just enjoying the school. I know there are almost a hundred clubs, more than a dozen of which I have been involved in. The club I have been most dedicated to is the Discipleship Club. I was part of its birth and it has fostered a great Catholic community at prep. The most infamous declaration of preps school spirit is the its commitment to engagement and spirit it brings to sports. Parent: We were new to Omaha; toured numerous public and private schools. We chose Gross Catholic. Several years later, we're more convinced than ever it's been a great choice. Gross has wonderful faith-, leadership-, academic-, theater-, and sports-based groups in which to participate. It's welcoming! Strong academics. Love the trip experiences centering on important topics. As parents, we appreciate the House activities and family dinners (when there's not a pandemic!) and appreciate school leaders being unwaveringly Catholic. We've met numerous families who transferred into Gross from other faith-based and public schools for this leadership. Senior: A great place to thrive. Small classes, a great family atmosphere. I have made great friends and there a ton of resources. I am an athlete and love the sports program. I love how much time the parents put into the school and how theys support their students. All grades support each other- it is very inclusive and a real family feel. I felt comfortable from the first day and know that I will really miss the tight knit community that this school offers. I feel I have gotten a great education while making friendships that will last a lifetime. The coaches and teachers are great. I feel that for academia the school still has a very conservative feel to it. The only thing that I would critique negatively would be the school counselors. I never really "needed" them but in terms of getting ready to apply for colleges etc they didn't guide us very well. The school counselors don't seem to spend a lot of time with their students. Senior: At Roncalli, I really felt like I was a part of a family. I was very connected to my peers and administrators and felt like I belonged there. I would say the best part is both the teachers and family-like environment. The teachers were all very friendly and willing to help with just about anything. I felt like they truly cared about the education I was receiving. Adding on to the family environment, I felt like a person there, not just a number. I could go up and talk to anyone and they knew who I was and we could talk about just about anything. On the other side of things, I would say the worst part would be the actual condition of the school. Unfortunately, Roncalli does not have the greatest funding and some parts of our school needed to be updated or changed. However, that’s not the fault of the school, and they did the best they could to give us a good learning environment. Alum: I started attending the Concordia School System in 2nd grade and continued all through until my graduation this past may. I have no complaints from my many years there. I had built many amazing relationships with my peers and teachers. Not one of which did I dislike. All the teachers always took their time to help you improve. I know a major question people have about it being a private school is about the uniforms. They truly are not as bad as many believe. I have never been annoyed by having to wear one. In fact, having uniforms helped my indecisive self not need to worry about what to wear. By far my favorite thing about Concordia had been my ability to get involved. I had been apart of 20 extra curricular activities all throughout high school. This included activities varying from being music related to educational to sports. Sophomore: The best part of my experience is definitely the people there. I have a lot of friends and most of the teachers are absolutely fantastic! The schooling is definitely a challenge, but I know I can always ask for help. Parent: I cannot say enough good things about OCA. My family has been involved with the school for over ten years and we have loved every second of it! The staff is kind and friendly. The teachers are nurturing and genuinely care about the character of our children. It’s wonderful to have a school that is an extension of our home and where I know my children are safe, loved, and cared for when they’re at school. Parent: The academics are ranked higher than national and regional average, and are rigorous. The students also take a Bible class, and the teachers take it seriously. Teachers don't allow some of the nonsense socially you see in other schools; leaving kids out, cursing, etc. Obviously, with a privately funded and smaller school, there are some things that are going to be unavailable; you just have to gauge that with the incredible care that the teachers give to the kids. Each student is really seen and worked with. Students aren't their diagnoses or aren't their behavior, they are real people with real strengths and weaknesses, and at Lifegate, they are nurtured as such. Extra curriculars include Robotics, LEGO League, basketball, volleyball, track, a middle school musical (that uses the church's professional lighting and sound team, and always looks and sounds fantastic), Jazz band, and others that maybe I'm not a participant in and of which I am unaware.... Middle School Student: It was a pretty decent school. You moved from classroom to classroom for every class which many schools don't do. There are different math classes for more advanced students and less advanced student which is helpful. All the teachers are nice and helpful. The school is clean and the church is beautiful. There are always actives to do at the school like the Ice Cream Social. The one thing they could change is making the school more diverse.
