Senior: Greensboro Day School is very supportive academically and in the college-prep sense. The teachers want you to succeed, and it is easy to communicate with them both inside and outside of school. The environment focuses on honor, and it is a safe environment considering all of the security measures in place. As for the student life, it is very heavily sports focused with less focus on the arts and academics. It is not very diverse, and students often appear to be unaware of their privilege and position in society due to being at a private independent school. GDS can often be more of a bubble than it intends to be. Senior: Despite a few minor encounters with teachers and students, Forsyth Country Day School has provided me with an outstanding education and has taught me important writing and time management skills, which will help me immensely in terms of college and my future career. The only piece of criticism, or note I’d make to change in the future, is in regards to some of the faculty (specifically teachers) and their strong belief/use in favoritism in and outside of the classroom. Junior: The teachers are excellent! One can have all other characteristics be awful, but the teachers are simply the highlight. It reminds me of medieval scholastic scholars and the founding of the first universities, where pupils would eagerly sit at their tutor's feet. She made friends immediately and was able to get connected with sports and clubs. Our child is currently in the middle school and has been attending NGFS since the first grade (Rainbow). Junior: I have been at Bishop McGuinness for all 3 years of my high school career. I have had a positive experience being a student here. I have participated in both JV volleyball and soccer, and have had a lot of fun. The teachers here are very passionate about our educations and make sure that they are teaching to the best of their ability. Senior: I started my time at Westchester in 5th grade and have attended for eight years now. Overall, my experience was great. Some of my teachers, specifically my English teachers and Film teacher, have changed my life for the better, and I will forever be grateful for the advice, care, and knowledge they've given me. My fellow students, and friends, have also been amazing. I did experience many different friend groups throughout my eight years, but I am grateful to each and every person I spent time with, each of them shaping a piece of me. The only real thing I'd like to see changed at Westchester is better communication between the students and faculty, a more open connection being made. Yes, it is possible to schedule meetings with faculty to speak with them, but it doesn't always feel like change/progress is made after said meetings. There is not a football team, so our outing was always basketball games or a neighboring school's game. The students there, however, are all brats (rich kids mainly). Alum: Going to Vandalia Christian School was an amazing experience. It was at Vandalia where I won the NCCSA State Cross Country meet. This school gave me incredible opportunities such as the following: playing guitar in chapel crew, preaching at fine arts, running cross country, receiving a solid education, and preparing me to enter into college. Although I only attended for three years, they may have been the best three years of my life (especially junior year where I met my present day girlfriend). I really wish that Vandalia had offered more AP courses because I would have liked to take more than just AP Statistics and I wish that the AP Statistics course that they do offer better prepares students for the AP Statistics Exam. Parent: North Hills is a small private Christian school. It's expensive, but they do offer scholarships for those that qualify. My daughters have attended there for 9 years. They do a great job of intertwining the spiritual and academic needs together for the students. They have a good athletic program for a private school that has definitely improved each year. We have had problems with some teachers not being good teachers, but the school has done a good job of hearing from students and parents and making the necessary changes. We have had some great teachers at NHCS that have taught my daughters not only their academics but great life lessons. I do think there is room for improvement as far as academic advising and preparing students for college. I would like to see more college test prep and more standardized testing options at our school for our high school students getting ready for college.
