She enjoys going to school each and every day! The teachers challenge her while offering support any time she may need. The faculty, staff and coaches are top notch and really care for their students and want them to succeed. She has grown tremendously both as a writer and reader. Socially, she has made many sweet and caring friends at SBS. There is a strong sense of community among students, faculty, staff and parents. The Stony Brook School hosts numerous events both on and off campus. The schools motto of Character Before Career is truly evident and embraced by all. Senior: Following a Socratic approach to learning, teachers build a strong relationship with students that not only makes it easier to seek aid or advice from them but also makes the learning experience that much more enjoyable. Alum: I attended the Knox School myself and my niece and nephew are current students at Knox. I highly recommend the school to any parent seeking a school that helps each student become the best version of themselves. Not only is the academic program stellar, but there is a great family atmosphere. The amount of individualized attention your child will receive is unparalleled. There are many extracurricular activities as well. Throughout the pandemic, the school has gone well above and beyond to keep the students and staff safe and healthy, but the school created an amazing virtual learning environment. Senior: As a soon to graduate senior, I have had all the resources needed to succeed and supportive teachers to help me on the way. The school’s staff is great and the majority of the teachers are cool, most more than not. Ive had access to state of the art technology and facilities. The only thing holding me back from giving a full 5 stars is the fact that the seniors have felt a bit neglected this year due to senior privileges being loosely enforced, if even so, such as senior parking being limited due to not cracking down on juniors parking, a senior cafe that any grade level has access to; seniors being forced to eat lunch in a hallway instead of their own cafeteria; and biggest of all, no senior trip. The school advertises their Italy pilgrimage strongly but it only applies to the chorus which the majority is not involved in. Parent: After attending a daycare for the first year and a half of my son's life, I knew that it was time to find somewhere else to send him. After much consideration, my husband and I decided on the Laurel Hill School, even though it adds 35 minutes to our morning commute and is completely out of our way. This difficult decision is the best one I have ever made. My son is 2 and speaks in full sentences, knows the alphabet, and can count to 20. Works Here: I've been working at The Bridges Academy for quite a few years now and I can't imagine being anywhere else. Parent: My daughter attended grade 1-6. Best investment I’ve ever made! In public pre-k and k she was very eager to learn and was never challenged and felt culturally different. LOL met her at her level and always challenged her. At LOL Everyone is treated special. Cultural celebrations were welcomed and woven into the entire school. Growth in all areas, academic and personal is encouraged. She was mentored encouraged and truly cared for. Students were taught to support and cheer for one another, like a family. And conflict of any kind was handled immediately but with that family/ team approach. Being ostracized or made to feel separate was not a thing. After graduation my daughter’s classmates are still some of her best friends. And she is a national honor society student because her foundation prepared her for excellence. Senior: I have gone to MDQ Academy since pre school and although there were some ups and downs I wouldn't want it any other way. The uplifting, motivating and optimistic environment created by teachers and fellow peers has shaped me into the person I am today. Due to MDQ Academy being a small private school there isn't much to offer such as limited classes and extra curricular activities however that doesn't take away from the excellent student focused classes they have to offer.... Middle School Student: I'm graduating from St. Pat's in a week, and I truly cannot see myself at any other elementary/middle school. St. Pat's has such a wonderful and unique staff who are so caring and devoted to the students. It's such a wonderful community, and we are truly a family. I'm friendly with all the people in my grade, and even kids in younger grades. Bullying in no shape or form is tolerated at St. Patrick's, which is something I think everyone there appreciates. The school is very advanced technologically. iPads, Chromebooks, and are available and encouraged. Academics and faith are huge parts of the school; it is not frowned upon that a child is smart or religious. St. Pat's is a very safe environment; there are security guards and cameras everywhere to ensure our safety. I'm so glad I got to spend six years here with such a loving family. Middle School Student: I love this school! I am currently in sixth grade here, and this is my first year. The staff and kids are so friendly and the school community is the most welcoming. You do have to wear a uniform which is kind of annoying, but it’s a beautiful uniform and is pretty comfortable. I wish we had bells for the start of every period and had classes farther apart, which is an odd wish, but I’d like it to be kind of a, “Okay class, head to your classes! See you later!” But, no. Well, we switch for 5-8 graders and the younger grades have specials as well, but we come back in between most classes to homeroom. Overall, this school is amazing though! I would definitely recommend it to anyone. (This school is Nursery, Preschool, and K-8, and I know the school profile here says it starts at pre-k, but they have nursery as well.)... Read 5 reviews
