Niche User: The faculty here is incredible- supportive, driven, eager to push each pupil to his/her best. And teachers are not limited to the classroom: during their free periods, they can often be seen engaging in intensive discussions and intellectual dialogues with their students.

Other reviews have stressed the rigorous coursework and college preparatory focus; all of this is true, but I think the Hudson School goes even beyond that. Unlike many other "elite" private institutions, where each student follows the school's "one size fits all" mold of what education should be, Hudson students are pushed to actively shape their academic experiences. It is not rare for upperclassmen to propose and design their own courses, working closely with teachers in that field. The individual's passions and capabilities are prioritized above all else; no learning opportunity is sacrificed for bureaucratic expedience.

In addition, due to the school's size, most classes take on a seminar format, cultivating critical thinking and expression abilities over regurgitation and textbook learning. As a result, I've found that the "regular" courses here tend to be more sophisticated than the standard AP curriculum. Case in point: I've been able to take AP's cold, not even reading over the syllabus, and get 5's with the training from my Hudson classes.

Finally, the Hudson School is one of the most accepting communities I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of. It really is as close to a safe haven from bullying and arbitrary student hierarchies as you can physically get. Corny as i sounds- being different isn't stigmatized, it's embraced. And students are treated like real people, not just numbers and statistics.

Ultimately, I do not think any other school could have opened up the myriad opportunities Hudson has for me- intellectually, academically, philosophically, creatively, socially, personally. It truly is a special place.
