Senior: After being at Harpeth Hall for both middle and high school, I can confidently say that I really enjoy the small class sizes and close relationships with teachers. I never feel ignored or brushed aside in class, and teachers are almost always available if I have a question outside of class. The academics at Harpeth Hall are amazing and I am challenged every say in my classes. However, the school is not as strong socially as it is academically. It's not very diverse racially or economically, with the majority of students being white and upper/upper-middle class. Freshman: My freshman year at McCallie was great. I'm a science-oriented student and McCallie had so many opportunities for me to explore my interest. This year I joined the science bowl, biology research, HOSA, and Future Medical Professionals clubs. I was able to conduct research at McCallie's awesome cell lab and won some prizes at a local and state science fair! The clubs I joined were all run by students with a teacher advisor and were very active. Most clubs would meet at least once a week to prepare for whatever event we had. Additionally, I joined McCallie's Natural Conservational Guild (NCG) which is a club focused on preserving the environment. It was really fun to clean up local rivers and trails as well as start our own garden next to the dining hall. Regarding classes, they were all amazing with extremely supportive teachers who are willing to work with me and they gave reasonable homework. Also, the campus is amazing. Freshman: Whenever I drive by St. Mary's, I smile and say, "That's my school!" I began attending SMS in fifth grade, and I immediately felt welcomed and at home. Sophomore: I have been at Hutchison since 4th grade. I love this school! Every year I am amazed by how much my teachers care about my success. I have to work hard in the classroom, but my teachers are always willing to spend extra time with me. I love the MYExperience program and learning about different career paths. I have enjoyed the many professional women I have had as speakers and mentors, and the service projects that I have worked on. I know that I will head to college in a couple of years totally prepared. But I think the difference at Hutchison is that school is fun. We work hard, but we root for each other to succeed and we help each other. I am not into sports at all, but many of my friends are. I love watching their games! I also love watching my friends in the theater. I am black, and while I didn't really think about it when I came in 4th grade, I worried a little that I might not fit in. Senior: I’ve gone to Christian Brothers High School for two years now. It’s been the best high school years i’ve had. CBHS is an amazing school with one of the best school spirit and culture in this country. The history alone is amazing. Senior: As soon as you arrive at SAS, there is a great community factor. With it being a small school, the students all know each other well and are incredibly close. Seniors and 7th graders have close, almost siblinglike relationships, especially among boarders. Adding onto the community aspect, it is evident that the teachers truly care about each individual student. The classes are great, and I have almost nothing negative about the teachers. However, a big issue lies within the administration. There is a lack of trust between students and the administration due to their large amount of bias in disciplinary action. White students that pay full tuition have an extensive history of getting more chances than students of color or students that do not pay full tuition. The athletics are bad, but the school admittingly does not prioritize sports. Senior: I loved my years at Augustine school! I was there four years and it definitely was one of the best times of my life. This school taught me how to see the good, true, and beautiful in all things. It taught me how to think about thinking, how to form logical concise opinions, and how to glorify God while doing it. My teachers were not only my teachers but like friends. I learned to respect them but also how to live life with them as my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I have great memories of setting up hammocks outside in the school woods and reading books by Plato and Boethius. Junior: I've been a student at GPS for almost 6 years and though I've had my times of stress, I wouldn't trade my experiences here for anything. The friendships and faculty relationships I've made would be hard to recreate anywhere else because a mutual level of respect and honesty comes with these relationships. The staff at GPS genuinely care for their students, which can be seen in the constant altering of how we do things at this school. Though changes each year tend to be annoying for those who appreciate consistency, it is nice knowing that these changes were made to help us be the best we can be. Senior: Christ Presbyterian Academy, or CPA, has been my home since the fourth grade, and I have seen it undergo an immense amount of chance. My experience at CPA has been very positive, but sometimes days can be hard at CPA and the community surrounds the school unlike anything I've ever seen. For example, ten ago, a CPA facility member passed away and the CPA senior class all went to the house of the teacher's family and sang hymns in the front yard, and they ended up getting on the news. This underlined to me that the CPA community cares for you, and there will always be people waiting to help you in any way possible. While I have never had a situation like the facility member, through tough times, the CPA community has surrounded me with love and compassion. The best part of my experience in the community and the worse part is that there is definitely favoritism within the school. Parent: We love the small class sizes and the teachers’ hands-on teaching styles at St. Agnes. The teachers work hard to find activities to engage your child in a way that will help them grow. Not only will your child’s teacher know how they learn best, but they’ll also know them as a whole person- their personality, their friends, you as parents, etc. It feels like family. We love the Christian environment and Biblical teachings. We love the single gender lower school classrooms so that our girls learn to be confident leaders, but we also like how they still interact with their male counterparts through mass, field trips, book clubs, etc. We also appreciate all the social skills they learn in some co-ed classes in junior high, as well as the Early Childhood Center. We are thankful for the administration’s long-term focus on our children’s education and spiritual growth, but they can also be found spontaneously jumping in a bounce house with the kids or reading to classes. Junior: I started at FRA when I was in Pre-K 4 and have really enjoyed going here my whole life! There are tons of great teachers who genuinely care about your education and are willing to go the extra mile to provide support. I’m very involved in the athletics programs and my favorite extra curricular that I am in is broadcasting. I enjoy doing play by play for the basketball team and have enjoyed the opportunities given to me to grow as a broadcaster at FRA. I also enjoy how much support student athletes receive from friends, family, and faculty, it makes the games much more enjoyable and helps the players feel more confident.
