Parent: Our entire experience over six years has been nothing less than wonderful. The teachers and staff know all the kids and really, truly care about both their personal well-being and their academic success. They go above and beyond to help wherever there is need, and parents get weekly personal emails from the teachers keeping us in the loop. The culture is kind, positive, and inclusive. There is abundant support and help throughout the college application process—truly extraordinary! I wish I'd had this sort of expereince in middle and high school! They have been generous with financial aid, which has made this journey possible. Teachers and staff are open and welcoming of parent input and questions. School spirit is great. The only deficit is that with the focus so strongly STEM oriented, music and drama are almost non-existent. I would have loved to have those offerings to round out the experience. Senior: Don’t let the four stars dissuade you from applying or attending! Jesuit High School’s motto is “Men and Women for Others;” in other words, community comes first. After four years, I’m not sure I could’ve have picked a better high school to go to; you will meet people who are passionate, driven, and caring. Though competitive and rigorous, Jesuit offers learning opportunities every minute you are there. Their response to the coronavirus pandemic has been quick and professional, and the teachers, which are one of the highlights of the school have been flexible and positive. A mostly traditional school, Jesuit does not offer many opportunities for hands-on learning, with the exception of a few classes including visual arts, journalism, and environmental science, to name a few. Alum: This school is like no other. The best thing about it is how each student goes at their own pace. If you have trouble in one area, you can totally spend more time on it to make sure you fully understand it (after all, that is what school is for!). And the things you are very good in, you can whizz through as fast as you can. Here, the student really is more important than the clock. Additionally, this school really makes sure that you can apply what you learned instead of just memorizing it. If you cannot apply what you learned, what is the point of knowing it? Finally, the school culture is so welcoming. It is the easiest thing in the world to make friends here, and these become lifelong friends. When I first got here, I was a really shy kid, and I was terrible at making friends. But for some reason, this started to fade, and within a month, I knew everyone in the school! Sophomore: I love this school! All my teachers have been great, everyone is really nice for the most part and I really enjoy the all-girls environment. I feel like I am challenged but the classes aren’t super hard and all my classmates care about school and engage in class. I can definitely see how it is not for some people but the atmosphere works perfectly for me. I am non-religious and though it is a catholic school, I’ve never felt like they were pushing it on me. Our theology classes cover a lot of topics besides Jesus and Christianity and the teachers are more focused on your interpretation instead of the religion itself. The only thing I would have to complain about is the dress code and the competitiveness. Though the teachers and staff try to not put an emphasis on grades/college, the average St Mary’s student will most likely be putting a lot of pressure on themselves and overloading with classes and extra curriculurs.... Senior: Valor Christian School International is second to none! The fact that our tuition not only pays for my outstanding education, but it also goes to support a child in a developing nation get a free education, clothes, and food makes me realized how one person can truly make a difference. Once I got into High School, I had the amazing opportunity to go and visit these kids in their country during our missions week. I got to see first hand how my family and I are helping spread hope to others. Valor's teachers and staff are always so uplifting and eager to help. They make each and every student feel valued and heard. Having come from public school, I was not anticipating the small class sizes or the one-on-one time each teachers is willing and ready to spend with me. Senior: I first started at Valley Catholic as a freshman and overall, I think that it is a great school. Because it is a college prep school, the education is outstanding and has really prepared me for college next year. The class sizes are fairly small, so that means that there is a lot more opportunities for one-on-one interactions with the teachers if you have any questions or concerns. The community is what really makes Valley Catholic special, however. As well as a high school, Valley Catholic also has a middle school, elementary school, and an early learning school, so a lot of the kids who grew up going to Valley Catholic also graduate from high school here. This gives older students opportunitues to help the younger students if they need it because we are all on the same campus. Because we are a Catholic school, the nuns come over from the church fairly often to help us not only grow intellectually, but spiritually as well. Parent: The education we wish we had received! We just completed our first year at St Stephens with three of our kids and we were blown away. Everything from the exhaustive approach to English grammar/writing/phonetic learning, to the emphasis on character, to the Latin that begins in 4th, to the teachers who are loved and respected…all of it was beyond. Our children memorized more in one year than most do in their entire lives. They started debate in 4th grade that just blew me away with their super early ability to use rhetoric. The music and art programs are off the charts. I just think of the word “abundance” when I think of our school. We feel the foundation this school gives (classical education is something I only learned of through attempting to homeschool for a year and fell in love with it) is necessary and beautiful. CCHS is such a welcoming community and invites everyone with open arms. I do not regret my decision to attend Central Catholic. At Central, I learned so much about myself and about my culture and about other people's cultures. Parent: After an extensive high school search, Westside Christian was a clear choice. This school has been a profound blessing to our family! Our daughter is a Westside graduate and our son is currently a junior there. We have watched both our children thrive in this loving environment filled with gifted teachers and administrators who have found their calling. Westside is certainly strong academically and our daughter found herself extremely well-prepared for college, having taken advantage of Westside’s numerous concurrent credit classes. Junior: I went to public school for my freshman year of High School. Due to Covid-19, all students were online. Alum: My experience with the school was great, though I have bad memories of food. The food in the school is usually poor, which forces students to make their own food. International students will not have much fun experience with their dishes. Even though the food is terrible, the school is really good for the students who are looking for getting easy grades. If you put your effort, then you will get it. However, for college admission, I recommend students to have their own agents who can support college admission. No one will help you in the school. Senior: Speaking from a student's perspective Faith Bible has given me so many opportunities and the chance to build my character and my faith. The academics truly help you push yourself to learn more and the teachers care that you understand the subject and what is being taught. The school does have a variety of sports that are growing every year and the school is currently 2A. The coaches all care about our health as athletes and want to see us succeed and enjoy the sport. There is also an early college program they started in 2022 for Juniors and Seniors that gives them the chance to take actual college classes online for college credits, involved in this is dual enrollment classes that are taught by high school teachers for college credit.
