Parent: I have friends who are attending various private and public schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area from grades 5 on through 12. In sitting down with the other dads it is undoubtedly true that no school has done more to prepare post the outbreak of the pandemic then St Mark’s. Not only their children but their administration and teachers are out of this world! Not only did the school literally review replace hundreds of things across the campus, they’ve also implemented a fantastic screening program, testing program, and communications program for SARS-COVID19. I know that when selecting schools grades, scores and college admissions are the number one priority. I never thought I would pick a school based upon their ability to handle a medical global outbreak. The school has literally blown us away! Middle School Student: I am about to complete my 11th year at DIS. The people here are simply wonderful! The teachers care deeply for their students, the school is open to new ideas (they let girls wear comfortable shoes when they began a campaign against the uncomfortable expensive ones all the other schools require), the cafeteria food is healthy and the academics are amazing! I must however state that the upper campus (5th grade to 12th) has no gym so they often rent UTD or use Sportsplex. Parent: The teachers are skilled in dealing with multiple styles of learning (kinesthetic, verbal, and visual) often integrating all three styles seamlessly throughout the day during any given lesson, based on the needs of the child. I am not worried that my youngest child with a summer birthday should be held back a year. Every student receives individualized plans, adjustments are made to assist the child where areas of growth are accelerating them in subjects where they show strength. All of the teachers receive training in the grades above them and they introduce advanced work if it is needed. As evidenced by the many accolades, Alcuin teachers are clearly in the top of their field. Senior: You hear a lot of schools using crappy idioms like "we're a family here," but for TVS it's actually true. Not everyone gets along on campus, but there's never any real fights, no bullying, and no real safety issues. The worst thing about it is that we're a microcosm, with little idea of how harsh the outside world can be, but we learn so much more than other schools, even other private schools! We're learning Latin in middle school, calculus by sophomore year, and preforming Shakespeare for fun. If you're academically gifted in any way, come to TVS. They'll foster it, and the family part will kick in because every administration secretary will know you, and have a cousin whose roommate works your dream job. If you can afford TVS, send your kids here. The education will prepare them for life better than most colleges, but also help with social skills, outside activities, and genuine empathy. Senior: The school has a very good academic program, but the administration makes very questionable decisions sometimes. The higher ups also are not very in touch the needs and wants of the student population. The school also doesn't promote or fund the arts programs, as much as they should. Instead relying on donations to fund those programs past the limited money they put into it themselves. The athletics program is pretty good. Parent: My daughter has attended EA Young since she was 5 years old while my son joined EA Young when he was 9 years old. The greatest part of EA Young is the Administration and the Teachers because they listen to students and parents' feedback, and they genuinely care about their students. I credit my kids' love for learning and sense of curiosity to the unique culture at EA Young. EA Young is also very accommodating towards learning. My 11-year-old son's strong subject is Math, and he was allowed to join the math class that is one year ahead of his grade. My 10-year-old daughter is also 1 year ahead in all subjects. Senior: Cambridge is very unlike any typical school, public or private. The immediate difference of Cambridge is that it is drastically small compared to any other school that comes to mind, with the student count averaging around 110 students each year. They put Christ on the forefront of the curriculum and try to incorporate how to use the faith in each subject. The academics are very rigorous but with a small student count there is more one-on-one time between the teachers and students. During my freshmen year, I found the campus to be rather small, but it was still nice despite the size; however, during my sophomore year, we had a sudden change of campus because of a tornado hitting the school, and the campus is now inside of a Sunday school, and is a downgrade of what it used to be. The students are overall good people, with the exceptions of a few as typical in all student bases. Senior: Though this school is small, if that what's you're looking for it's great! Very competitive environment and lots of availability for one-on-one time between students and teachers. The involvement of the high school students with the lower school students is so unique to Lakehill. This school makes it possible to do every thing you could possibly want to do. I am a leading member of 3 clubs, in student government, do both the musical and the play, and manage a 3.97 GPA while also being a full-time, out-of-school athlete with practice 7 days a week. If you want to do it all, Lakehill is the place to do it, but the environment is definitely better for those focused on and driven towards successful academics. Parent: We moved to TCA from public school and have been incredibly pleased with the academic rigor, faculty as well as the kind students and families. It’a a very welcoming school and there are many opportunities for families to be involved. The school does a nice job of providing opportunities for the students to bond and while they do have their groups of friends like any other school, the kids are taught to be kind and accepting of others. My child has made new friends because of these opportunities and I have seen other children have similar experiences as well. The teachers are wonderful and very good at communicating. Our kids LOVE this school including the environment, friends, sports, art, electives, field trips, school trips and so much more. The Board, administration and teaching staff are engaged, caring and dedicated. As a parent, I can’t say enough good things about how they support the school, the kids, and the families. I would also like to commend their handling of the COVID-19 shelter-in-place situation. With only one week of extended spring break, the Board, administration and teachers put together an amazing online learning program for the kids. This is when I decided to transfer to Legacy Christian Academy. Here they helped me quickly get caught up in the search for colleges. I also have been lucky enough to take multiple interesting courses that heavily relate to my indented college major (Mechanical Engineering).
