Senior: I am graduating May 2020 from St. George's. I have attended since 7th grade. St. George's is a private school on a beautiful campus in Spokane, WA. Administration is serious about preparing us for further learning in College and beyond. Many fellow students will pursue careers in the fields of law or research or medicine or languages. I am currently in the International Baccalaureate program (IB) and it is difficult but prepares me for anything I may encounter as I enter under graduate or graduate school. Senior: Gonzaga Prep has. been a wonderful experience! Gonzaga prep helped prepare me for college. The school encourages the students to be involved in community and school activities. This encouragement allows for community and friendship building opportunities. It also gives the student a chance to explore other interests that may be intimidating. Gonzaga Prep allows students to explore athletic and academic opportunities while offering a faith based background. During the pandemic, Gonzaga Prep was well prepared and organized. They continued to educate and collaborate with the students and the community to provide the highest degree of learning during an unprecedented event. Junior: Overall experience at the Oaks has been amazing! When I started in freshman year, the students were very welcoming and made an effort to make me feel included. The teachers are very capable and concerned about the students’ well being. I would advise new students to start a club or find some way to contribute to the school community, like being the play, orchestra, or tutoring another student. The administration is very open to new possibilities. The academics are very well rounded, it would nice if there were advanced placements courses available, but students are able to register for as many AP exams as they would like and the college counsellor is invaluable in that process. The school is getting new building so the facilities will be brand new in the next few years. The family community is very close knit and there is no issue with finding rides or any other needs from newer families. Alum: I enjoyed the theatre department immensely. There were many opportunities for students to help create art together, in the theatre but also the pottery class and the select choirs. I found the AP classes challenging and a few of the teachers truly committed to preparing students for college. There should be a wider variety of academic options for students who work better with projects than papers and there could be more hands-on classes. While there was good preparation for college, I didn’t feel like there was enough preparation for other life things, such as taxes, checks, and making buisness connections. Alum: I loved going to Upper Columbia Academy. I think it's greatest strength is the staff-student relationship. The staff truly care about each student and it shows. They're willing to work with you and want you to succeed. The academic programs are high quality and the athletic department is very good and lots of fun. There is a good music program and a very intentional spiritual atmosphere. I participated in dual-credit classes, class office, sports, and music and had good experiences with all of it.... Parent: As soon as we walked in the door, this school felt like home. My husband and I visited a few schools in the area when our oldest was ready to start kindergarten, and we loved the community feeling at VCS. When I showed up to an event with my kindergartner, preschooler and baby, several of the older students made conversation with me and my kids and generally helped us all feel welcome. Niche User: The academics side is the forte of SCA. It offers AP and regular classes, but in all of them the curriculum and teaching is above average. On competitions and national tests our students score quite above average. The workload is sometimes overwhelming, but with it comes a lot of help from tutors and teachers.
