Senior: My experience in STISD was great because STISD has a lot of great things to offer. STISD has a lot of great clubs and activities. One club that the students get most excited about is HOSA since STISD almost always places on top since STISD already focuses on the medical field. STISD gives you the opportunity to graduate high school with a certification! On your senior year, you get to choose a program that you want to get into. I choose dental and I am a registered dental assistant and I also have my Nitrous Oxide Sedation Monitoring certification. STISD also offers a lot of AP classes to gain college credit. STISD is barely starting to add more sports because when I entered, there was only volleyball and basketball but they are adding golf, soccer, and softball! What I really enjoyed in my school was when we had enrichment day. Senior: What I love about Alamo Heights is how much opportunity the district and area has to offer, and how the community generally strives for excellence in nearly every aspect. The Rocketry program, cheerleading, band, robotics, football, orchestra are all high-achieving programs with excellent teachers/coaches who want the best for their students. However, Alamo Heights has a reputation for being a very elitist community with so much money circulating through the area, and usually the same few wealthy families are the ones in power in politics and on the school board. I believe they don’t have the ability to properly represent everyone in Alamo Heights and it often leads to a very exclusive and isolating experience for minorities and families with less money.... Parent: Allen ISD has been such an amazing place for my daughter. All of her teachers have been great. School districts aren’t miracle workers and they need the support from the community in order to thrive. I had great communication with all of her teachers except one. They were quick to squash some unacceptable behavior from my daughter and a couple of her “friends”. What made the difference was that I supported their decision! Allen is unique in that they provide some really unique opportunities for students but students must want to take advantage of the opportunities and parents expectations need to be realistic. Senior: I really enjoyed my time at Frenship! They have so many niches like the theatre program, the robotics team, and the UIL team. I was honored to represent the school in these competitions and had lots of fun. The only downside to the school is the people. There are always fights every week and so many smokers in the bathrooms. I try to disassociate myself from these situations, but it's sometimes unavoidable because we all share the same school. But even with all these complaints, I understand the school isn't the one that causes people to misbehave. Senior: The High School has been recently renovated so the hallway congestion is much better. It is easy to make it to class if your classes are at opposite ends of the building. Students do not use hallway lockers, everyone carries backpacks. Transferring classes is easy if you follow the procedures. Classroom size is good and overall teachers are high quality and care about their students success. You need to have specific questions to attend tutorials, so that could be better. Parking around the school is tight, there is only one main parking garage and it is mainly for seniors. Security is great and the sucurity guards are friendly. The school trys to promote an all-inclusive atmosphere. There are tons of clubs so everyone at the school can find something to join and be part of a group. AP classes are very challenging. Senior: I am part of this school district as an online student at iUniversity Prep, based in Dallas, Texas. I began attending this virtual environment as a junior in high school, having come from an arts school in Houston at which I did not feel as though I belonged, and was not receiving an adequate education or experience that was benefitting me mentally. Now as a senior at iUniversity Prep, I feel as though the decision to leave my prior school and attend iUP was one of the best decisions I have made both as a student and as an average teenager. The professors have welcomed me, and I have constant and direct access to them if I have clarifying questions, stressors, requests, and anything else. I also feel as though the content of my coursework has improved drastically, and I am learning at a much more intensive level and a quicker rate. Senior: I have attended Gruver schools since kindergarten. The one idea that makes Gruver stand out from other schools is the level of expectations in every aspect of the school. Every employee at the school expects all the students to succeed, try their hardest, and act in a respectable way. These expectations begin in kindergarten and have continued through-out my entire time in school. I remember going on field trips as a kid and the teachers would tell us, "Remember, you are representing Gruver, and we all act like the best Greyhound we can." Being a Greyhound meant, and still means, showing the upmost respect to anyone we meet, doing our very best, and having integrity in everything we do. From band students, to academics, to athletics, the students and faculty at Gruver Schools are incredibly successful because of this standard.
