Senior: Orange High School has been nothing but a life changer for me. It has given me countless opportunities to grow and flourish in various aspects of my life. From a wider variety of sports to choose from, to more comprehensive academic selection, to AP class opportunities, to even more community service and club options, the school has opened up a world of possibilities for me. Orange High School has taught me that regardless of where I come from, my potential is limitless, and there is no end to what I can achieve if I set my heart and mind to it. However, the culture and school spirit at the Orange City School District have left much to be desired. It is disheartening to see a lack of enthusiasm among students and staff alike when it comes to participating in school events and activities. Senior: My experience at Lakewood High School has been awesome! I've always liked to help around the community and be a good hearted person. Having many opportunities with extracurricular activities and clubs really helped with finding things i enjoy doing. I'm in many clubs, including a volunteering club, H20; indoor and outdoor track; Special Olympics, where we get to interact with the MILES students in our school and play sports. Even Medical Office Management which is a west-shore program in our school that can be used for as college credits. The teachers and staff are great and supportive. Overall, I wouldn't want to graduate from any other school. I got honored an award for Student of the Year for following the Lakewood High Schools graduation requirements. Junior: The Rocky River School District is full of amazing opportunities, teachers, and students. In my time as a student at Rocky River, I have learned not only many things relating to my scholastic education, but also valuable life lessons from doing activities such as cross country. Senior: I have lived in Solon my entire life, since kindergarten I've attended Solon Schools. Most of the time Solon is great, their teachers are attentive and caring, we have every resource we need, and even the school lunch is good. But there is always that one outlier. As I got older I have had to encounter many racist and bigotted people. Being black in a white school system is hard, the staff doesn't understand my daily struggles. I couldn't even count the amount of times I've heard the N- word and other racial slurs, and I also can't count the amount of times a staff member has told me that "it's just a word" and "you need to calm down". Because of my experiences I and two other girls deiced to reenstate the high school's African American Culture Club to create a safe space for black students. Alum: I loved the schools, they offered many different things for everyone ranging from clubs to sports. I was in the marching band and I made plenty of friends. I loved the band because we had the best halftimes, and third quarter snacks. That is only part of my high school career. I enjoyed taking a bunch of different classes with teachers who really cared about you. I would say the only thing that sucks is its a A school so you have to be good at the classes or you'll feel like you wont fit in with everyone. Parent: I feel we have the most caring teachers! They put their all into engaging all students to make learning fun. I have two students in the district at opposite ends. My student who struggles has found the extra help he needed. My student who excels and was getting bored in class had teachers who recognized this and stepped up. Centerville offers so many extra curricular options that I never had growing up! So many ways for students to find their niche. Senior: Chagrin falls is a great school with many different educational and athletic opportunities. Teachers and coaches are friendly and inclusive with all their students. Students do a great job of supporting each other academically by encouraging those around them and grow better together. Likewise, the students are also athletically supportive by attending home games for pretty much every sport, along with even going to away games for some of the more popular sports like football, lacrosse, and basketball. Chagrin not only offers many different advanced placement courses, but they also have a wide selection of different art classes any student can take. For example, I was able to do three years of ceramics during my time as a student at chagrin falls high school and found that it was a great class. Junior: I entered Loveland as a kindergartener in 2012. Throughout my experience, I have learned one thing this school district tries really hard. The district had a problem passing levies to improve the function of the school but did not give up, it took almost 4 levies until one finally passed. The district has different programs installed in the school to make students feel included, for example, the middle and high school has a hope squad that allows students to get one on one help from their elected peers. Along with this is a student-elected student council allowing students to have a voice. The school spirit has grown over the past few years at football games and during homecoming having events like powder puff and dress-up days. All the school spirit makes school more enjoyable and feels as if the school is one community. Parent: As a working parent of two students during the pandemic, I would have to say that Wyoming has done a tremendous job balancing safety for both students and staff along with maintaining excellent instruction for all students, whether in-person, remote or hybrid. We have always been impressed with the quality of the teachers our children have had in the classroom. This year they have all risen to the challenge and our students (3rd and 6th grade) have continued to learn and progress despite the plethora of challenges presented by the pandemic. Sophomore: The school is very big and well funded. Though there isn't a library at the school, there areany other aspects that make up for the lack of. One thing is that there are a lot of clubs and extracurriculars to choose from and they offer more difficult courses for students that want to challenge themselves. Parent: My kids were in the district 2007-2015 before we moved to IHSD. I still think FHSD's approach to gifted math/science may be the best model in the Cinci area. Being in a core subject with all gifted students left a lasting benefit in work ethic, confidence, and self-acceptance. At the MS, I was terribly disappointed to find that in an era of mass customization, they failed just as much as any other large district to leverage their size to offer more than basic differentiation. The ES literature/writing program was disappointing for advanced/gifted. My younger kids might have benefited from staying in the district through ES, but my oldest needed to continue to be in classrooms where competition with other students wouldn't allow her to coast. Sadly the damage caused to our mother-daughter bond by the woke undermining beginning in MS was only understood and mended after college. I wish the best to the new school board.... Read 56 reviews
