Parent: I grew up in Hewlett and I am raising my daughter here. The academics are amazing. The community is welcoming and they do so many amazing events for families. Starting from FECC (early childhood center), which was warm and helped create an amazing foundation. Then onto the elementary schools, which teaches accountability along with social, emotional and academics. This district has it all! One last bit of information, your child can get credits for college once in the high school. This is an overlooked bonus but definitely great for kids and parents. This district has it all ! Senior: Edgemont Junior Senior High School offers a very diverse student body, which is a great characteristic of the school in my opinion. Diversity brings different ideas and creativity, and I find that reflected at Edgemont. The school is also rated a top public high school, known for its academic rigor. The classes students take definitely prepares them well for the next level. There are many electives to choose from during junior and senior years, such as computer science and economics to name a few. This makes for a well-rounded education. Additionally, the school offers many Varsity sports. I personally participated in the track team since my Junior year, and very much enjoyed all the track meets I’ve been to. Senior: Commack School District is an interesting place. It seems to have something for every student. It has a very strong academic program. Commack High School recently was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. Our students are high achievers and excel at all levels. Students are regularly receiving awards at academic competitions. However our District also supports students who have special needs or who wish to pursue careers in the trades. We have programs that allow students to travel off campus to study the specific trade careers they are interested in. Our schools also have many different types of extracurricular activities to become involved with that cover almost every interest a student can have. And we have a large number of sports teams which always perform well. Freshman: I just moved to Bethpage this year and because of the school's campus and curriculum, it was very easy to adapt. The school has a welcoming vibe and the community is friendly. Senior: I have had a great experience with the Great Neck Public Schools over the 13 years I have been attending schools in the district. For kindergarten, I went to Parkville, for elementary school I went to E.M. Baker, for middle school I went to Great Neck North Middle School, and for high school I have been in Great Neck North High School. Let me just say that everything is amazing in these schools. I loved all of my teachers over the years, as they have really prepared me for my next step in life. I love the clubs and activities offered at the schools, as there are so many of them that the schools offer. Lastly, I love the schools’ environments, as they all have such a positive and supporting environment and help each student get through every day. Sophomore: As a current Sophomore in the Chappaqua Central District I can strongly say that the district is an overall fantastic district that puts a lot of emphasis on challenging each and every student in a way that helps them succeed. Starting from 7th grade, the students are split into two different math tracks to accommodate for those that are more mathematically inclined. In high school, a variety of AP courses also allows students to push themselves to learn higher level material. There are also clubs for the many things students are interested in including art, science and even gaming. A range of courses in the performing arts also allows students to explore new instruments and roles in the production of stage performances. However one thing that is not as fantastic about the district is the underlaying racism towards minorities. Junior: It's a very academic school which is great because it offers so many amazing classes but on the other hand there is also enormous pressure placed on students to push themselves into the hardest classes to "look good for college", which can be viewed as both a good and bad thing. We also have free periods which are AMAZING! Basically the same as a study hall but you're not required to stay in a classroom and you can hang out in the hallway with friends and during some periods you can leave campus and go grab lunch or hang out outside. In the middle of the day instead of lunch we have FLEX which works the same as a free but you can go see teachers to study or catch up on school work which I've found really helpful. Overall the atmosphere is great and teachers really do care about their students which is awesome. You really do have to put in the work though, Brighton's curriculum is relentless but you have a great team behind you to help complete it. Athletics are amazing as well.... Read 45 reviews

Alum: I had a pretty good experience at BHHS. Although I was one of few people of color, I never felt discriminated against or even really encountered someone who was racist to me. They had great resources, great teachers, a pretty friendly environment, competitive academics, and most importantly fed their students amazing food. One thing I would like to see is an increase in diversity. I know that the school isn't the only factor in this, but the towns apart of the school district being the main reason for such a low diversity rate. Another thing I would like to see change is the that I wish the guidance counselors helped more with the college process, because for me I didn't hire a college advisor like other students, because I though my guidance counselor would help more than he did, but I was kind of left to help myself basically.
