Senior: My experience with this school has been amazing. I've always been a flexible person and the rigid structure from public school made it difficult for me to do good in classes. Ever since I started Broward Virtual school, I have been getting 80% or higher in my classes, and being independent made me learn how to structure my life unlike how some public schools don't. The faculty is also a plus! They are patient, understanding of everybody's situation and they are always there to help you. However, virtual school isn't for everybody. You have to learn how to plan out your week or sometimes your whole month (rarely though...)! If you are too flexible and aren't willing to put a little time into planning your schoolwork, that can be a severe downfall for you and straining for your teachers. Junior: This school is amazing, and is perfect for anyone who has a super busy schedule, like me! I have a rigorous ballet schedule, that requires my focus and attendance most of the hours of the day. Because of FLVS, I am able to continue to pursue my passion for dance and get an excellent education, at the same time! The teachers are so dedicated and are constantly checking in on us, and providing help when needed. The course homepage is super easy to navigate around and makes learning fun and stress-free. It would be nice to see some updates in the course resources, however. Most of the videos and pictures are old, and sometimes glitchy. Alum: I started attending Orange County Virtual School since the sixth grade and it has made my academic journey easier to control. Having 24/7 access to all my courses in one place was a significant improvement from moving throughout the school building looking for which class I need to head to next. Even though there is not as much socialization in a virtual school as in a brick-and-mortar school, the live lesson opportunities allowed me to interact with other students and get clarification on any concepts I was struggling with. There were also school workdays where students could come to the actual OCVS building and work with each other or with the instructors face-to-face. Perhaps one of the biggest benefits is that I can not only work on course assignment at my own pace, but finish each semester in May instead of June, enabling me to graduate early.... Senior: Overall amazing experience. The teachers here really care about you and want to help you always try your best. I loved that you can work anytime, anywhere. How the coursework is designed really makes sure you fully understand the information, not just regurgitate facts. The only thing I would say is that it does not have many opportunities for social engagement and interaction than in a regular school. Just know that you will have to find other ways to develop those skills. Also, you will also have to make sure you have discipline, and always submit work before deadlines. Senior: Florida Virtual High School became a huge opportunity for me to focus on my academics like never before. Working from home allowed me to become an independent learner and improve my grades tremendously! Also, I was able to navigate through life without the constant peer pressure. In a way, I found who I was through FLVS because of it's safe, flexible, and freeing environment! In addition to that, I was able to explore different career fields such as cybersecurity, forensic science, and accounting applications. The virtual clubs are fun to engage, collaborate, and grow in. Senior: I like this way of learning much better than going to a brick-and-mortar school. It allows students to work at their own pace and complete work based on the schedule you create; I also think it's much less stressful than regular school. All of the assignments are open-book, and the classes have a lot more resources for review and help, if you need it. The teachers are available from 8 am to 8 pm. They are really nice and want to help you and see you succeed. You can quickly and easily get in touch with your teachers by texting, calling, or emailing them. They usually get back to you pretty fast. The website that you complete your work on is very simple as well. You have your lesson and then your assignments. Senior: Overall it is a great school with a good curriculum. I feel like they could achieve more if they worked more on getting the kids to communicate with each other. Maybe make some type of platform that is not moderated this way, they can make friends. I am a Senior this year, and I know no one in my graduating class or how many people are actually in it. Also, focus on the kid's home situation and mental health. Senior: I love Mosaic Digital Academy! I came here in 2016 when I was in sixth grade. With the help of their amazing guidance counselor, I have been able to excel in school. I currently have a 4.98 weighted GPA. I was able to start dual enrollment in ninth grade and because of that, I have taken summer classes and sped up the process of graduating. I can proudly say that I am now graduating two years early thanks to this school! Of course, it's an online school, so you will not get the same athletics or clubs you would at a traditional school, but they still do everything they can to keep you involved through social media and online gatherings. Junior: I've been attending BVS since 8th grade and I've definitely had good times and bad times. Pace is very important, so time management is KEY. You have free choice of classes you wish to take. Dual Enrollment is amazing through BVS because you can take classes at any time any day, compared to the restrictive brick and mortar schools. It's very easy to graduate early through online school and this school also offers in-person meet-ups with students and faculty. BVS has an actual location and school tied with it. They hold orientation, SOS labs (for those behind pace), Gym Jam (field day), NHS meetings and events are there as well. Senior: The teachers are always there if you need to ask questions. Everyone is extremely nice. They make learning so much easier, and it can be fun. I learn lots of new information every day. I am excelling in school and I wouldn't have been able to do it without the staff at Sarasota Virtual. My teachers are constantly sending me emails, telling me if I have questions or if I need help with anything to email them or contact them. They are polite and constant motivators. They are quick to reply, the communication is always so friendly, and they try to make connections to form a relationship with their students. My teachers are also supportive when it comes to my grades. They are always giving compliments about the last test I took.
