Thomas Jefferson School
Parent: TJ is a national gem; there are few if any schools like it. The curriculum is so thoughtfully designed to develop the broad and deep critical-thinking skills found in great liberal arts programs, and the high-level of math and science instruction gives technical competence (and helps those high test scores). The global student body means TJ has genuine diversity if people and ideas, not the typical isolating and limited diversity one often sees. And the delivery of the instruction in shorter discussion-based courses has challenged my student and, perhaps more importantly, given my student time to reflect upon and absorb the concepts. Everything is not a bug rush to an overdose of required activities, a feature which is often very under-appreciated. Lastly, good colleges know the strength of this small school, so the students get strong placements. A+ for the family looking for an education which focuses on academics and critical thinking.
