Senior: Newman is a small private school with a high tuition cost, and because of that, diversity is lacking. But that comes with the territory, and you would face this issue at any private school in Nola. That being said, as a woman of color, I have always felt safe and cared for here, as they does their best to encourage diversity and inclusion. (let it be known that POC students at Newman have very different experiences and the same can't be said for everyone) On the other hand, the school offers amazing opportunities and great academics for students. It's a community in every sense of the word, helping students build relationships and achieve academic excellence with the guidance of their teachers. Each student can feel individually supported and inspired to do their best, and even though Newman isn't perfect, the positives out weigh the negatives by a lot, and compared to other schools in New Orleans, I'm confident in saying that this is the best. Sophomore: I'm in my 5th year at Haynes and I love it! The teachers genuinely care and form real connections with their students. The work is hard, but it really does prepare us for college and exam season. Our school offers many AP and College-level courses, like engineering through LSU curriculum. Academic clubs, like mock trials and academic games, and STUCO are the only clubs that are really active by the second semester. If you are like me and don't like academic clubs, then there aren't many opportunities to bulk up your college resume. Junior: As a student that attends Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology academy, I believe that this school and its staff put education at the forefront of everything they do. Since it is a science and technology school, there are ample resources that can propel its students to excellence when it comes to science and technology matters. When it comes to extracurricular activities, PFTSTA funds the clubs by having different fundraisers specifically made for certain clubs. Sports is definitely not a priority, although they just built a new gym for basketball games and volleyball games. Alum: I am an alum of the class of 2021. I attended Episcopal for 7 years. I switched from Episcopal from a highly rated public school. The facilities at Episcopal are unmatched by other high schools both academic and athletic. While the facilities are unbelievable, Episcopal is made special by the of the staff of the students. Everything I experienced at Episcopal was amazing with the exception of the administration. The administration does not think through a lot of decisions and is not respected by the students and a lot of parents because of the incompetence. Other than the current administration tearing down what previous administrations have built alongside a great community of students and alumni, the school is unmatched by any high school in the area and a lot of universities.... Alum: I really liked going here! I attended this school from second grade until I graduated high school, and I wouldn't change it for the world. I love the friends I made, and the school spirit. The only issues I would say are: the deans and administration are not on your side and want to punish people. Detentions are handed out left and right, dress code is beyond strict, and seniors do not get any privileges. Despite all of this, finding a good of people at this school will get you through the day, and you will love Willow. Freshman: I've been going to this school for 12/13 years now, and I'm in the 9th grade. This school has been an amazing experience! I have had fun making friends with the girls in my grade. The best part is the traditions, such as conge (faire), may crowning, and cache cache (hide and seek), that come with being a Sacred Heart student. If you plan on attending this school, it would be an amazing choice. The teachers are amazing! Parent: I graduated from Sacred Heart and now my daughters are attending as well. I am happy to say that the same traditions and values that were at the heart of this school, remain the same today. We came from several years at another private school in the area, and as much as I adore our previous school, there is nothing comparable to a Sacred Heart education! Middle School Student: I love Prairieville Middle! It is very fun, and there is many activities and after school activities on campus. Also, lessons are engaging and teachers fully explain the lessons. However, it is very unorganized. On lots of occasions, it is hard to find out what is happening because of the lack of communication. Side Note: Class time can be wasted often on silly things and teachers don't really follow what the board says to do. One of the seventh grade teachers said and I quote, "If there is a real lockdown. They truly enjoy going to school each & every day. Senior: I have been at Uhigh for 13 years and I have made a lot of great friends and memories! I love my teachers, however, some of them are a little strict over the dress code. Besides my friends, I will miss my teachers the most! I made the best bonds with them and I feel like I can go to them for anything! They care about their students! Your work ethic has to be very strong and high to go here, but it’s worth it in the end because I will have 18 credits when I go to college! I am involved in 10 different fun, welcoming clubs and I am on the women’s soccer team! The Laboratory School provides a lot of opportunities for their students as well. Seniors have the option of getting out of school at 12:40, which is really helpful when there are college applications due. One thing I would acknowledge Uhigh to invest in would be a bigger school parking lot. Some people are unable to find parking when they get to school at a reasonable time. The elementary faculty and staff got to know our daughter and went out of their way to let me know how happy they were to have us as part of their school. The environment is very nurturing to the whole child. The children receive classroom instruction, small group instruction, and one-on-one attention from the teacher. There are engaging activities to reinforce concepts learned in the classroom. The reading curriculum includes books with themes that promote social-emotional development all while learning literary concepts and critical analysis. All-girls environment gives the opportunity to cater the curriculum to engage girls. The campus is beautiful, and I feel that my daughter is safe there. Parent: I love the opportunity for my grandchildren to learn a different language. ISL is a top 10 language immersion school, kindergarten through 8th grade, average size classrooms with 2 teachers each. Along with the core subjects, Art, Circus Arts, Music, and PE are included. They have a good after care program. In the morning there is carpool dropoff, but no carpool pickup in the afternoons, so I would like that to change. Bus service can be provided depending on your location. There are several campuses that teach Spanish, French, and other languages, teachers are from various countries. It's an amazing school!
