Parent: Sun Valley Community School is a special place in the Wood River Valley, bordering the Sawtooth mountains! The school takes full advantage of its access to the outdoors. My children enjoy the variety in their school day, as no day is like the other, except for the warm, friendly, and incredilbly talented teachers. As a parent, not having to convince or make a bargain with your child to go to school, or count down the days to the weekend, or the next break is such a relief. Both of my kids love going to school. The parent community is also wonderful and supportive. There are many community-building events that take place throughout the year. They vary from holiday events to community service, to book clubs. Alum: It is a good school. The small classes make it easy to learn and easy to make friends. I’ve graduated now, but when I was there I loved it. However, since I’ve gone, I’ve heard that there’s been bullying and the rules have gotten stricter. A bad thing about this school is that the rules are very tight and many of them are not important. There was a general feeling of anger towards the faculty because of that. However, the education is exceptional, and I heard that many classes are taught one grade level above what is required. When I was there, they had choir, theater, creative writing, extra math, and PE as their extracurriculars. That was a few years ago, so I expect they’ve expanded or improved on their classes. Senior: I've been at Liberty Charter school since 4th grade, and I'll be graduating this week from Liberty. This school has such a great community. Everyday I'm surrounded with teachers, classmates, and friends that make going to school and learning an amazing experience. The rules are a lot stricter here, but they are still reasonable and manageable, and it's all worth it to be part of such a great environment. Parent: We are in our 10th year at Sage and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. We started in kindergarten, and their IB program provides so much hands-on inquiry-based learning to make school fun for young learners. The teachers are all amazing. There is no school on Fridays, giving students a chance to recoup or catch up on schoolwork, and the teachers and staff have a full day each week to collaborate, prep, and learn. Their middle school and high school programs are rigorous but fair, and do a wonderful job preparing our kids for college, career, and just life in general! Senior: I enjoyed participating with Thomas Jefferson Charter School from Kindergarten through my senior year. I particularly enjoyed the staff's adaptability for each student by providing more difficult and particularly useful skills to use not only for school but for life. This school pushed me to accomplish things I never thought would be possible. I have learned valuable skills and haven't ever felt lost during my transition from High School to college. I personally wouldn't change any of the staff or practices done at this school, and all staff here are very easy to talk to and get in touch with. High School Senior: I loved my overall experience at Heritage Middle School. The school is very unique in that, there is very little bullying and everyone gets along. The administrators and teachers make sure that everyone is treated fairly. I could really tell that the teachers truly cared about their students and always took extra time to make sure their students were understanding the concepts. Freshman: As a student of Victory Middle School for 3 years, and I can honestly say that I LOVED my experience. The teachers aren't afraid to get close to their students and are always willing to help out. They also have many different opportunities for students to help them grow. There are classes to both help you improve when you struggle, as well as advanced and honors classes to challenge you and prepare you for not just high school, but college. Plus, the music courses are so fun. I was in choir for 3 years and my teacher was supportive of everyone, quirky, helpful, supportive, and one of my favorite teachers. Also, the students are great. Everyone is kind, and friendly and is willing to help out a peer. This school was amazing! I owe thanks to all the teachers at this school that I was close to because they helped prepare me for the high school that I was fortunate to attend. I recommend this middle to ANYONE! High School Senior: My experience here overall is really amazing. All the students accept who who are even if you are a different race to believe in different belief. Also the students her are slightly judgmental, which is the only thing our school need to work on. We have amazing teachers at our school, we can walk into their classrooms anytime of the day and they would always have smiles on there faces and are always willing to help you if you need it. My best experiences here were at the football and basketball games. These games brings our school together, which is a lot of fun. Parent: A true education partnership with students and families! Our oldest child spent 7 wonderful years at this school (6th-12th), and our youngest is currently a student here. The students are able to dive deeply into real world problems and engage in field studies that allow them to have real connections with what they are learning. I love this! They take part in community service each week and interact with many local organizations. They are given the space and opportunity to find their voice, and use it, and learn to collaborate with other students, teachers and community members. The school cares deeply about the students and works to provide the space for individual learning opportunities too. Alum: It is a bit smaller than public schools. Also, people say there are couple other schools in the Boise Metropolitan area that are STEM, etc., that are better. Yet our school continues to outperform every school in the Boise Valley area with a population approaching a million. According to Newsweek, #1 in the Boise Area, #2 in the state of Idaho, #46 nationwide amongst charter schools and 173rd in the entire United States. The school is an International Business School (IBS). They start preparing them in elementary school to be ready when they get the 6th grade they are actually learning 7th grade material. This allows them to work on their senior projects, for instance building web pages for a business and taking college level classes. The teachers and staff have a great relationship with the students.
