Junior: I've been going to the school for over 10 years and overall my experience has been amazing! I was really able to express my individuality with independent studies in the commons and all the faculty and staff encouraging creativity especially in music department. Even in the lower school a teacher let me create my own unit and help teach the class for a day. Senior: Allendale Columbia School is an excellent school with a tight-knit community. My favorite part of the Allendale community is the supportive, passionate, and caring teachers whom I can always count on for engaging conversations. Additionally, Allendale encourages students to take an active role in the community, whether through participating in a speak-up forum, holding positions in student government, or providing feedback on various school matters. The school also fosters a progressive learning environment, prioritizing collaboration and hands-on work. At Allendale, all community members know each other. While the student body comprises of diverse backgrounds and personalities, most students are uniquely special and somewhat eccentric. In comparison to the Harley School, both schools are quite similar, but the choice ultimately depends on one's interests and personal vibe. Senior: Mcquaid Jesuit is a very good college prep school. The campus is decent, although not as new and updated as many others. The STEM center is definitley the highlight of the campus. The preparation for college is likely its biggest strong point. They push kids hard, so everyone is pretty well off and ready for college. Those involved with the college application process are experienced, informative, and proactive. The cafeteria has amazing food, and the sports teams are dominant. Middle School Student: TCMS is a school that is very unique. After being here for 3 years, here is what I have to say. Most teachers are passionate about teaching & want to help students learn/grow as not only students, but people. I feel they are underappreciated by students who are ignorant to their opportunities and then therefore push the learning gap between those with learning differences or need aid as opposed to everyone else. My other issues are that the "diversity", really isn't what it's advertised as. People don't tend to make new friends and generally students stick to their "group". Problems and drama between students that are clearly evident to other kids - such as bullying - is turned a blind eye towards, especially because this is a Middle School, and you know how the system works here. The school has got its issues, but overall, promotes good practices and the administration has always worked hard. Freshman: I genuinely have loved every second being at Mercy, and sending your daughter here is definitely a gift everyone deserves. I will say though if your daughter doesn’t have great grades in your typical public school, she might not excel here. As someone who had all grades above a 98% at public school, now I average around a 90%. Although the school is very challenging, I feel like I learn a lot more being given more homework, and getting good grades feels much more rewarding. The people are genuinely so sweet - staff and students, and they are all very welcoming. The teachers are very qualified and they are really helpful when you advocate for yourself and ask. In general Mercy pushes for your daughter to grow more independent and be able to go out and conquer challenging tasks on her own, and they really do it amazingly. Parent: I really enjoyed the HFL school district. We have experienced a family tragedy and the school administrators, support staff, educators, etc. have all been incredibly supportive. The curriculum and instructor availability has been terrific. All personnel are easy to communicate with and are forthright and supportive in their communications with students and parents. Sports has been somewhat frustrating; as many parents push coaches/other personnel into decision-making that should be made without parental involvement. Senior: I have had a wonderful experience at Lake Ontario Baptists Academy. The staff is personable and diligent about seeing students succeed. I was also challenged by the academics. Being such a small school you do forfeit some of the extra activities, resources, and some of the college preparation that comes with a larger school.
