Sophomore: I enjoy Kingswood Oxford School a lot, there are thousands of wonderful experienced offered there. From sports to academics everyone has there own place. I enjoy how much the teachers pay attention to you, not just through your work but actively seeking to help you throughout your high school journey. Many students thoroughly enjoy the community space that is made at Kingswood Oxford, and continue to come during alumni events or even to teach. The school culture has given me a great experience in college readiness and clubs & activities. All faculty encourage students to join clubs or start their own! It is a great space to learn and is completely inclusive to all no matter what you are interested, if they don't hold the courses for you then surely GOA does. Senior: Senior here, and I loved my experience... mostly! Some teachers are better than others, but the majority of my teachers are intellectually engaging and really care about their students. The student body isn't particularly diverse, but there is an effort being made to mitigate that and to better support out BIPOC students. The best thing about Walker's is unquestionably the way that we've been encouraged to speak our minds and challenge the system. For this empowerment alone I have to recommend the school. Of course, there are downsides, administration can be stuck in its ways, and one often feels powerless to change our school. Since she entered in 6th grade, I notice much more openness to parent involvement, and MUCH better home-school communication. When my youngest entered 6th grade this year, the orientation and parent communication was fabulous-- like night and day as compared to 3 years ago. I love the weekly newsletters sent by email, as they are hugely informative. The school counselor my kids are assigned to is also amazing--so responsive and supportive. Respect for all people is taught and modeled.Homework is kept to a minimum to prioritize family time. While my son is only in 3rd grade, I've still seen academic rigor proportional to the grade. Some students were reading independently in 1st grade and others had extra reading sessions with a volunteer!...There is music, art, and chapel weekly. There is a student band that leads worship! My son sometimes tells me when students misbehaved and caused his team to lose during PE.
