Senior: GDS is an extremally nice and well rounded school. It is packed with challenging courses and great faculty and staff who work diligently to ensure that students are ready for college and obtain the opportunity to pursue their own path. With that said, as someone who has attended the school for six years now, coming in seventh grade, I find that the school has it's weaknesses. To start the food at GDS is not what it once was, while it is still superior to that of the public schools in the area the cost to quality and meal size ratio is unsettling. In addition there is a very noticeable lack of school spirit from the student body, and while the school and a hand full of student are working to raise school spirit it is still something to be addressed. Ultimately GDS is a great school and community that is very close and will not only prepare you for what is next but also allow you to form strong long lasting bonds with class and school mates.... Alum: I came to FCDS in Jr. Pre-K which means I have spent 14 years at this school. The teachers are great and they really do care about providing quality education as well as being there for students in a more personal capacity. The overall educational experience has been very good and I feel that attending FCDS has adequately prepared me for college. I do feel, however that FCDS lacks in terms of preparing students for real life and the workforce. FCDS provides little health, personal finance, and other real world classes. Senior: I started my time at Westchester in 5th grade and have attended for eight years now. Overall, my experience was great. Some of my teachers, specifically my English teachers and Film teacher, have changed my life for the better, and I will forever be grateful for the advice, care, and knowledge they've given me. My fellow students, and friends, have also been amazing. I did experience many different friend groups throughout my eight years, but I am grateful to each and every person I spent time with, each of them shaping a piece of me. The only real thing I'd like to see changed at Westchester is better communication between the students and faculty, a more open connection being made. Yes, it is possible to schedule meetings with faculty to speak with them, but it doesn't always feel like change/progress is made after said meetings. Parent: I have had 2 children attending Arts Based School. I love everything about the curriculum and faculty. My children enjoy the environment and exposure to the arts. There are sacrifices, however. No school cafeteria. No school buses. And not the most diverse population. However, what the school lacks in diversity it makes up for in open mindedness. Junior: The teachers are excellent! One can have all other characteristics be awful, but the teachers are simply the highlight. It reminds me of medieval scholastic scholars and the founding of the first universities, where pupils would eagerly sit at their tutor's feet. With a very small class size, it's much easier to interact intellectually with not only the teachers but also other students. Parent: We are very happy with NGFS as it provides a forward-thinking environment that supports a growth mindset for learning. Our child is currently in the middle school and has been attending NGFS since the first grade (Rainbow). The teachers are invested in the students, and provide curriculum that is engaging and academically challenging. The in-classroom learning, as well as outside learning is thoughtful and engaging. Parent: Cornerstone has been challenging, safe and tight-knit community for both of my children. There are events for elementary, middle and high school that are well-attended and supported by the PTO. The teachers love the students and their job and it shows! The school is safe, calm and well-run. My children have enjoyed all of their classes, as well as the sports, field trips and especially the AP offerings. We are so glad that we took a chance 10 years ago and enrolled in a brand new charter school that’s pillars are rigorous academics, character education and parent involvement. My daughter got into all 10 schools she applied to and earned scholarships to most of them. Our son is on the same track and we can’t wait for his accept letters to roll in this winter. Both are thankful for the opportunity to attend a school that focuses on the whole child and not just standardized test scores. If you are lucky enough to get into Cornerstone, accept the spot. Middle School Student: So far I liked my experience in the HAG team at Hanes. The teachers and students are friendly and the academics are excellent. I will say, it is diverse, but I do find there is more Asians and White Americans than other races, especially in HAG (I'm Asian btw). But other than that I think its a great school. Middle School Student: Kernodle is a good school. I was the very top of my class, and ended the year with all 100's, but still had time for sports, clubs, etc. The teachers were amazing, and honestly did try their hardest for the students. The one thing I will have to say is the bullying issue. Kernodle does have lot's of bullying compared to the many other schools I have attended, and the administration fails to take action. Middle School Student: I am in Eighth Grade and this school has prepared me for high school. My freshman year I will be attending West Forsyth High School which is one of the best high school in the state. Thomas Jefferson Middle School is the best middle school in this huge Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. The diversity and the teachers are the best. I hope they keep the school this good and keep the same teachers. It is in the middle of an upscale community called Glenridge and this is located near Wake Forest in Northwestern Winston-Salem. Junior: Penn Griffin School for the Arts is a great high school! I was able to grow academically while being accepted by teachers, students, and other staff. The faculty has made an amazing effort to ensure all students have an equal chance for each and every opportunity given to the students. As an arts school, each student has the chance to be expressive in several ways and it is beautiful to see so many happy people in one space at one time. The one thing I would like to see change in Penn Griffin School for the Arts is the timeliness of all planning.
