Parent: Cross Creek Charter Academy is an amazing school! The teachers and staff are wonderful and do such a fantastic job at helping all children succeed in their education. The Moral Focus curriculum really sets Cross Creek apart from other schools. My children have learned from an early age what words like compassion, perseverance, courage and gratitude mean. As a parent I have always felt that Cross Creek is a safe and wonderful environment for my children to learn and would highly recommend Cross Creek to anyone.... Read 3 reviews

Parent: The teachers are amazing and build a relationship with the students! Instead of the teachers being above the students they develop a trusting relationship with them. The counselors meet with the students 1:1 regularly to make sure the students are taking appropriate classes for their goals. The school is partnered with local colleges to encourage students to earn college credits while in high school. Being in a small town, sports are an important aspect of extra curricular activities and many options are available. I also like being notified right away when my child was noted absent. PowerSchool is very helpful to be involved in my child’s grades. Overall great schools!... Read 62 reviews

Senior: I've attended Black River Public School for 13 years and have had an overall positive experience. Students benefit greatly from small class sizes and one on one communication with their teachers. The project term program at the end of the year is great for giving students new life experiences and teaching them about topics not covered in the normal curriculum. If you want to take a class not offered at the school, you can go to the Careerline tech center, take an online class, or enroll in a college course (Hope College is just down the road). If you're someone whose main priority is getting a good education, Black River is the best school in the area. However, if you want to play on a really good sports team or you excel in the arts, Black River might not be the place for you. Additionally, I think the english program is excellent and makes students great writers, but the math program needs vast improvement.... Read 90 reviews

Middle School Student: Of my time going here for the couple of days I've been here, It's a really good environment. I like how the teachers and staff are very committed to your overall success as a student. I would recommend this school to anybody that has a child that is considering, or anyone that wants to send their child to a school of excellence and believes in their Childs potential to learn and achieve. There are some Cons though. If you want your child to be in a challenging environment, full of expectations, I would recommend considering a different school. When I first got here, I noticed that the curriculum wasn't very challenging. I was then moved to Advanced Math. I wish they had more Advanced class options too. So far in Advanced Math, I still haven't had that challenge I've wanted. At my old school, they considered me a gifted and talented student. I don't know if the curriculum not being challenging has something to do with that. Otherwise, I highly recommend this school. Teachers are super!... Read 4 reviews

Parent: Hands down best school, amazing staff and teachers. This isn’t just a job for teachers. They love and enjoy being a teachers. The school focuses on the kids with ways to make learning better and more effective. They have different kinds of seating to help them learn and be more comfortable. Parent: We enrolled our son in Fork Union Military Academy after seeing so many YouTube videos that touted the benefits of the one-subject program and the school. The promise of focus, structure, and accomplishment came through. He passed all his classes in this, his first year, a sophomore at FUMA. We took advantage of their academic success program. There he found continuous support and cheers! They found novel approaches to reach him, took the time to learn about him, and flexed their approaches. I have been concerned in the past about the ability of teachers who are not Black to 'see my son' as an individual. At FUMA, they know him, challenge him to be his best, hold him accountable, and motivate him. I am proud of what he has done this year. As a testament to the place, he is looking forward to going back in the Fall - he's proud that he's earned a promotion in rank and knows he can do even better academically. Amazing....
