Senior: I came to CK during the pandemic. It obviously was not a traditional experience, however, comparatively, the school's response to the pandemic in ensuring the best possible education was provided to their students was definitely exceptional. With the amazingly breathtaking campus, CK has the facilities and resources like no other high school that students have the full advantage of utilizing. Students had the opportunity to return to campus for in-person learning a lot sooner the other schools due to the spacing available. Junior: Greenhills is a diverse, tight knit community that has really helped me become more confident in my artistic abilities, writing, and performance overall. It's a really small school which makes it great for individualized learning and opportunities. This is only further enhanced by the array of diverse voices being heard. The literary classes in particular showcase some amazing books on diversity and inclusion. My main gripe with the school is its lack of diverse education resources- it isn't great at providing aid for neurodivergent kids. Some teachers also don't properly use the homework website and neglect updating or even showing grades for each academic term. Personally, the small student body has helped me grow to be a more confident individually but, it does get a bit boring and monotonous to just see the same people everyday. Alum: I went to country day since I was in 4th grade and am so happy I was there all the way until high school! The small classroom environment is so helpful and the I would say the majority of the teachers will help you and are really great. Alum: The teachers were amazing for the most part, although there were some that I did not necessarily get along with or learned from great. I enjoyed the small class sizes and student led discussions. As someone who only started at Liggett in ninth grade, it was definitely an adjustment, but I quickly found a group of friends. Later in my high school career, many of those friends ended up becoming my very best friends that I still talk to going into my sophmore year of college. The ARP project is definitely dependent on the student--I chose a difficult subject and it was a source of stress for me but something I ended up being proud of. Liggett definitely lacked in diversity when I started there, and while it wasn't necessarily diverse in my senior year, it had definitely become a more welcoming environment in some ways. Parent: My daughters both went Baker and they had an outstanding experience there. The teachers there are extraordinary and really put the children first. The environment is top notch and the perfect place for students to learn. My youngest is graduating from Baker this year and feels very prepared for high school. Being part of the Baker family will be missed but it's always her home away from home. Every staff members prepares their students for the journey ahead and treat the students with the upmost respect. Parent: After a few months of online schooling and many tears, we were desperate to find an in-person alternative to the anxiety inducing situation we were in. Our 9 year old son and almost 5 year old daughter have been attending the lower school since January and we are extremely pleased and feel so fortunate to have landed there. Our sensitive son’s anxiety level has been lowered significantly, and he really responds to the learning style there. He is thrilled to be learning cursive and German and knitting, and also seems to really appreciate the extra outdoor time and learning about nature and Native American stories in addition to his times tables and long division. Our nearly 5 year old daughter’s imagination is put to great use every day and she has also become quite the little finger knitter! The environment is nurturing and thoughtful. Middle school student: The teachers here are thoughtful and always accessible. They are supportive and encouraging. I came here from Troy public school and what a difference my daughter is having. She went from being told she had a learning disability to achieving academically. The classes can be challenging but the teachers and support teachers will stay late, come in early, available through chats to help with assignments. What I love as a parent is that they lead with values. Students, teachers, and staff are all respectful and hold one another to a standard of excellence. I love what this school has done for my daughter's self-esteem and confidence. I am a new parent at Sacred Heart and look forward to my daughter graduating and getting into the university of her dreams. Last year, their Valedictorian was accepted into John Hopkins! Parent: My child entered NDP last year. And I am a teacher at another school. It is from the lens of both parent and teacher that I view NDP. The first thing that I noticed is how the adults (parents, faculty, admin.) reach out to new families. They are SO friendly. What a relief to feel authentically welcomed. An inclusive community benefits all of its members and is a good place for learning. I next noticed my child's experiences in the academic realm. She was definitely working hard and at times felt stretched to maintain the standard that she'd set for herself. Well, good! That stretch is where real learning takes place. The students at NDP are set up to succeed, have a lot of support, and do well if they are willing to work hard. Finally, I would say that my child fits in well because she enjoys sports and clubs and she made some good friends in this way.
