Parent: Before enrolling our daughter in Key School, my wife and I used to receive daily phone calls and text messages from her Kindergarten teacher in the Baltimore City School that she attended detailing how our child's behavior was unacceptable and disruptive. We tried working with the City teachers to find ways to engage our child, but they never followed through with any of our suggestions or used any of the tools we gave them to help manage the behaviors that manifested as a result of being bored. Our daughter hated school and would resist getting up each day. Since our daughter has had the opportunity to go to Key School, we have seen a 1000% difference in her educational experience, and I can only attribute that to the extremely gifted teachers, the exceptionally caring staff and the extraordinary administrators at Key School who meet children where they are, look for their strengths and help them grow. Alum: I attended Park School for 13 years (Kindergarten-12th Grade) and I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. I received a phenomenal education which prepared me well for college and taught me core values of advocating for myself, thinking outside the box, challenging my mind and more! The teachers want nothing more than for their students to succeed which is made possible by their incredible teaching as well as other recourses Park offers such as tutoring, counseling, and more! Senior: I came to FSB as a freshman in 2019, and even throughout the COVID pandemic, I loved my time there. The other students were always friendly, which I appreciated immensely, especially as I transitioned from a middle school where I did not fit in at all. I found several groups, formed either organically/randomly or by shared extracurriculars, that I felt entirely at ease with. The teachers were incredibly supportive. I am graduating with a stronger enthusiasm for subjects like English that I liked as a freshman, and a newfound love for math and music. While I was often stressed out by assignments or exams, when I look back that stress pales in comparison to how much I enjoyed my classes, rehearsals (I loved my time in chorus and the musicals), and friendships. Parent: My son attended 5th grade at the St. Paul's School for boys last year and will be entering 6th grade Fall 2023. He was nervous at first coming from the coed lower school. I appreciate the school's transition process in place to prepare the students and help them to feel comfortable. By the first day of 5th grade my son was more excited and less nervous. His excitement to go to school increased as the year progressed. Being in middle school did have it's challenges as my son was learning to navigate through social challenges of interacting with his peers and advocating for himself with his teachers. I must say that I have been pleased with the level of involvement and response from teachers and administrators. I saw my son grow, gaining knowledge that goes beyond the classroom. Parent: Severn school is a community of educators, staff, students and families who care about one another and want to see the young adults at this school excel. I’m a parent of a daughter heading to her 10th grade year and her freshman year was amazing. She was able to balance her school work, sports and extracurricular activities without any issues. As a matter of fact, it was hard getting her to leave school in the evenings. Severn offers a top notch learning environment that challenges your child but also prepares them for college. My daughter has the same advisor for the four years at Severn which gives her that comfort in knowing he’s there for her throughout any challenge. The head of the school, Doug Lagarde makes sure he communicates with the students and parents on a daily basis. He encourages the older student body to be there for the younger students. Senior: I go to an all boys school called, The Boys' Latin School of Maryland. I have had a good experience so far. The best experiences I have had so far have been the people I have met at this school, the sports, and the classes I have been in. The worst part of my experience at my school over the years was covid. My school is a very outgoing and social school so us being in covid affected the schools culture for two years. The lower classman couldn't interact with the upper classman and some sports were canceled. Alum: Words I would use to describe the good side of my experience/ what I have noticed about Burleigh (not just super personal but more tied to the school) - Valuable, Challenging, Safe, Loving, Academic, Compelling, and Brisk Pros: -Pushes you to do and be better -Has lots of good/chill teachers -Don't worry too much if you have a hard time as a person making friends. People at first here may be intimidating because of competitiveness, but I've made friends over academics and association and it was enjoyable (you can find SOME place to fit in, just try a little) -Diverse -Lunch choices are nice/fine Cons: -In my experience, I have only had or felt 2 bad experiences with 2 teachers. One of them was just a little too over rigorous (in ways that weren't academic but unreasonably meticulous at times... don't worry it wasn't math or English) -They need to add mirrors in the girl's bathroom and add new durable curtains to the changing room. Alum: My sister and I, along with numerous cousins and aunts, have all attended NDP. All of us are thankful to have been challenged, cared for, and supported by the NDP community over the years. The academics are rigorous and prepare you for all academic challenges colleges will throw your way. The athletics are great, though some teams are neglected and even ignored by the athletic department (I had an injury my senior year on the crew team and was asked by the trainer: "why are you even here? We don't treat your team.") NDP has a large and giving community that will help you every step of the way, though admin needs WORK. The traditions are fantastic and your daughter will walk away from her time here appreciating all that NDP offers. I have cousins who didn't like NDP while they were there, but have grown to love it because of the community and the work ethic they developed. Overall, NDP is great school! Middle School Student: The teachers are all very kind for the most part and definitely try to always push you to your full potential. They take their time with teaching and really seem to like their roles in the community. I experienced kindness from most students, however I struggled to socialize and keep lots of friends due to personal dilemmas (couldn't hang out at all outside of school hours and hence it was hard to get super close to other students). One thing I would love to see is breaks between classes. Being in one tiny building with nothing but learning for almost 7 hours (excluding lunch) can get tiring. Middle school student: Lime kiln provides a safe learning environment for students to learn and makes sure that they put their mental health first and makes sure they are okay. The set up each student for success and encourage students to do their best. I have encountered 2 teachers out of my 21 teachers that I didn’t like. The school tries their best to welcome new students by being inclusive to everyone. They take unacceptable acts seriously. Bullying is not the best. No matter how many times the counselors talk to people they don’t change their actions but they are giving their best effort.
