Parent: Our daughter currently attends Greenhills and started as a freshman. The quality of the teaching is outstanding and the students are kind and welcoming. It’s a terrific school. It may be viewed as STEM-focused, and it is certainly great in those areas, but they also have great social science, history, performing arts, and language programs. There’s something for everyone. I do wish they combined Health and Fresh in 9th grade. Fresh ended up being a study hall much of the time and to force the kids to spend two class periods on non-academic and non-art subjects isn’t ideal. Their intention with Fresh was good, and I appreciate the thoughtfulness behind it, but it doesn’t warrant devoting a yearlong class to it. This is a minor quibble, though, and overall our daughter, and we as parents, are thrilled with Greenhills. It is worth repeating: the teachers are fantastic. Parent: After a few months of online schooling and many tears, we were desperate to find an in-person alternative to the anxiety inducing situation we were in. Our 9 year old son and almost 5 year old daughter have been attending the lower school since January and we are extremely pleased and feel so fortunate to have landed there. Our sensitive son’s anxiety level has been lowered significantly, and he really responds to the learning style there. He is thrilled to be learning cursive and German and knitting, and also seems to really appreciate the extra outdoor time and learning about nature and Native American stories in addition to his times tables and long division. Our nearly 5 year old daughter’s imagination is put to great use every day and she has also become quite the little finger knitter! The environment is nurturing and thoughtful. Alum: I loved going to school here. The student body is super diverse so there are things like International Night, and talent shows with different dance and music forms. The librarian was amazing and most of the teachers were amazing too. I was involved in after school clubs and we had a lot of Cougar pride and wore our colors out a lot. Middle School Student: As an 8th grader, I've been to Scarlett for 3 years. Based on my experience I can say that Scarlett is a very community-based school. The school promotes student involvement with a student council in which students organize events and fundraisers for the school. The councelors are also great, with them being able to help students with almost any problem they have at any time of day. Most teachers are also very kind. Senior: As someone who has attended several different kinds of educational institutions (online, private, public, charter), I truly believe that education is what YOU make out of it. Central Academy has caring staff who are willing to go above and beyond to meet your needs. While IB and AP curriculum aren't offered at this time, they willingly pay for students to take dual-enrollment college classes. As a rising senior, I will be graduating with around 40 college credits and will be well acquainted with the rigor of college-level courses. There are many opportunities to start your own extracurriculars, an endeavor the staff is more than willing to support you in. Whether you want to test out of a class, request to take additional college courses, or change your schedule, the staff is more than willing to help if you take the time to ask.
